When he died all I heard was the absence of my Father. They played songs at his tribute. That was when I heard it for the first time. He was gone. I think Dick Hyman was playing and I was thinking “no! No! That’s not it! His phrasing, transitions. I don’t know. As a child I did not know other pianists couldn’t do that. He was & still is a singular talent. Dad!!
