The words "Record breaking profits" mean nothing until profit is measured against the amount of money invested in assets. It is neither incumbent on companies to share profits with workers. The primary obligation of companies is to their shareholders' investment returns. Otherwise, companies could not get financing from shareholders in order to support their operations. And by the way, worker pensions funds are major source of capital to fund companies. Many shareholders are workers' pensions funds and not "evil capitalists". This doesn’t address the inherent value of a human worker. If Starbucks continues to present itself as an employee focused job with huge internal promotions and a mission of a healthy worker culture, they should be held to that standard. @Xander Hegle paid well? Not in the slightest.
@Xander Hegle If I'm paid well why is my car in disrepair with no way of me affording a new one? why do I qualify (and run out of) food stamps every month? Why have I not been able to pay my electricity bill in years? Why do I qualify for fuel assistance? Why do I qualify for Medicaid? Why have I not gone on a trip with my children in over 5 years? I was paid more in 2005 than I am now NOT adjusted for inflation.
@Xander Hegle my car fell into disrepair a little over a year ago and I can't afford to fix it. This is not what workers want to hear but I am just setting the record straight.
All starbucks workers should immediately start getting 23 dollars an hour no matter how long they have been working there. You can not survive living on your own in calfornia with only 23 dollars so in states like california, those people should be getting 29 dollars am hour. I used to have an editor job where they paid me only 20 dollars an hour (after negotiating twice) and i still could not afford to live by myself. I could not survive in california with only 20 dollars an hour. I needed at least 30.

What middle class? St. Reagan put an end to that.
Let’s see how they like it when they get more money deducted from their pay checks. There’s nothing wrong with wanting better working conditions but it’s a waste to do it at a company that’s already above the industry standard. If Walmart or McDonald’s employees unionized that’s something that’s worthwhile. Being tired and struggling financially is not just a problem stemming from working at Starbucks, it’s a wider societal problem that everyone is going through right now. Unions are not going to be able to help you when these companies starts replacing you with robots because it makes the most financial sense to them. A barista is someone in Italy roasting and grounding their own coffee and running their own independent shop, someone who mix different types of sugary things into a cup and put some whip cream on top is not a barista you’re an assembly worker. Sorry but these companies, no matter how progressive they claim to be, are not going to keep you around when having robots starts making more and more financial sense.
This doesn’t address the inherent value of a human worker. If Starbucks continues to present itself as an employee focused job with huge internal promotions and a mission of a healthy worker culture, they should be held to that standard. It should be made clear that any company who wants human workers MUST pay them well and treat them well. Basic human decency at work. As a former employee I can tell you the unions are not uncalled for
Have you ever been to a Starbucks? They do grind their own coffee in the shop and make the drink from scratch.
@@KaterinaDeAnnika How many companies in this industry paid their workers to stay home during the pandemic? How many increased the base pay, added food and drink benefits, closed lobbies, provided ppe?
