    De Quervain's tenosynovitis is a condition that occurs when the tendons around the base of the thumb become swollen and irritated. This inflammation can cause pain, tenderness, and difficulty moving the thumb and wrist, impacting daily activities and quality of life.
    In this informative video, we'll delve into the causes of De Quervain's tenosynovitis, which often include repetitive thumb and wrist movements, overuse, and strain. We'll also discuss the common symptoms to watch out for, such as pain and swelling at the base of the thumb, difficulty gripping objects, and a "catching" sensation when moving the thumb.
    But fear not - there are various treatment options available to alleviate the symptoms of De Quervain's tenosynovitis and promote healing. From conservative measures such as rest, ice, and immobilization to physical therapy exercises and corticosteroid injections, we'll explore the range of interventions tailored to your needs.
    Additionally, we'll touch upon surgical options for cases that do not respond to conservative treatments, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of your options and empowering you to make informed decisions about your health.

    DONT GET THE SURGERY DONE JUST YET!!! here's why.. I had the same problem on my right wrist, then my left wrist. The right wrist got more painful as time went on. I am an HVAC Technician so I do a lot of repetitive hand movements. Anyway, I went and got the surgery done on my right hand about a year ago now. The recovery pain was not that bad but a uncomfortable slight pain did stick around for several months.
    Anyway, I had set up an appointment for the left had to get done.... in the mean time while I was working around heavy machinery I decided to lean up against a pipe and other times a wheel shut off valve. So I would stand up under it and press up against the pipe or Valve and massage my back and trapezius muscles. It would hurt but feel good all at the same time.. I did this about 2 times a week. Within one month the pain on my left wrist had gone away.. so you have to do a deep tissue massage to get the knots out. You must try it before going through surgery.. go see a massage therapist if you have nothing sturdy to press against.. Good Luck

      Are you saying that massaging the trapezius muscle stopped the pain in your wrist??? I have it in my right wrist and go every month for massages for my left trapezius muscle and it hasn't helped my wrist at all??

    • @124manr
      @124manr 2 роки тому

      @@khancock52 yes, it has to be deep tissue massage. Not just a regular hand massage, try having therapist press down using an elbow and hold for about 30sec and repeat the process. It has to be on a knot. The knot is what is keeping the restriction of the nerve flow. It could also be somewhere along your back muscles that may need attention.

    Thank you for the detailed information. I developed this in March of 2020. I got a cortisone shot in September and it did not help. My doctor said I would need surgery. I decided to try my DoTerra oils to get some relief. I apply past tense every morning and I have NO pain. I use it diluted in coconut oil or you can use it full strength. I have been doing this since September 2020. My orthopedic surgeon didn't even recommend exercises. I am glad I did not jump right in and get the operation.

    I have had this for 18 months. I have had 2 cortisone injections now and 2 rounds of physical therapy. The shots made all the pain go away for 6ish months. It's coming back again and they are looking into surgery now. My question is that I have never been instructed to completely brace it for an extended amount of time to give it rest. Would this help at all? or since symptoms come back after time with each cortisone shot any rest won't make a difference. This is suuuuch an annoying on going thing that won't go away.

    • @mgmarrow
      @mgmarrow 3 роки тому

      Yes, a brace would help to keep your wrist in alignment and take the pressure off of the tendons by providing some imobilazation. Wearing a brace for the first couple of weeks of a flare will calm it down. It's important to do specific exercises and stretching when the initial severe pain is under control.

    I got this by restarting playing guitar, I felt a little irritated after that at the wrist portion and try to massage a little base on some wrist pain video,and all hell break loose. I can't move my whole arm since it was so painful and I stay awake all night. Its about more than a month now and I realise this is the name of the symptom. Nurofen works well to kill the pain but it does not solve the problem.
