    Well just realized I've been start mine wrong for about 2 years, I never bothered with the bottom 2 except once when it started on half choke and I thought that sound meant I broke it. I've been starting it by putting on idle with the brake off and just pulling until it start a little and gassing it lol. It's not easy to do it that way, not at all when it's cold.

      @@shapesquisher9887 I mean sure it's a lot easier to start it this way but apparently it's also possible just to start yanking the cord until it starts. It used to take 5-10 mins of non stop yanking until it started or I gave up in exhaustion, I just assumed it was fucked up.

      I’m sure this thing called INSTRUCTIONS came somewhere in the box with the chainsaw. But in order to read / comprehend instructions you have to get past 2nd grade. 🤣

    Thanks for the video. In the past, we didn't need an engineering degree to start a saw. This video saved me a lot of frustration.

    Well, this is the second time I've watched this video. I'm having to start it holding it between my knees because my size 15EEE shoes won't fit in that trigger hole. I have pulled, and pulled and pulled more and mine, which started fine at ACE won't even attempt to fire off. At this rate, if it ever does start I'll be too tired from cranking it to actually use the blasted thing. Guess I'll go out and try again. Edit: After following the procedure again and getting nothing I took it back to ACE and the guy started it on the first pull. He said I most likely had flooded it by cranking too many times with the full choke on. He said in future that even if I don't actually hear it fire to take it to half choke after three pulls. Got it home and as it had just been running 15 minutes before I just set it to idle and it fired right up. Got the first trunk sawed up and fixing to go back out and cut the 2nd of the two trees up that the windstorm knocked down a couple weeks ago. Will be glad to have all that mess cleaned up. I'm saving the logs I cut up, black walnut and maple to have wood to use on my lathe.

    • @abcpowertools
      @abcpowertools  2 роки тому +1

      Starting between the knees is fine if your feet are too big. Dont pull on full choke more than 3 or 4 times( even if you dont hear it). It will stay warm for 30min to an hour( can start it from idle).

    Great demonstration ! 👍
    How come it takes about 10 strokes total to start a Stihl? Are they all the same? I’ve been watching a few Stihl videos to make up my mind and it seems to be the case.
    I own Husky’s (don’t want to start a fight here 😇) and they usually need 3 pulls to start (cold). I am in the process of buying a new saw and I wanted to go with a Stihl but I hesitate regarding this matter.
    Kind regards,
    Yves

      Hi, This is a brand new saw (never been started), takes a couple extra pulls typically on brand new saw. A used saw takes like 3-5 pulls from cold!

    Nice chainsaw.. for some reason my ms170 always starts without the choke on.... Don't know why... From the beginning 2 years ago and I don't use it much... Maybe 11 times in 2 years.... I still have Motomix fuel from day of purchase and Stihl chainsaw bar oil... Good little saw for my home....

    I do not like having the engine rev up with the chain brake on so I've been cranking in the lowest position, then moving to the idle position before cranking again. So far so good but I guess there may be conditions where you will want the throttle in lock position for a second or two (cold temps maybe ??).

    I started mine wrong.. After the choke I used the warm start lever, it turned on from there but then the engine really gone wild since the throttle trigger was activated.. Lasted for 10 secs we can't turn it off but then it did automatically ... It's just that we thought it's not safe to use anymore..? 😢

    • @abcpowertools
      @abcpowertools  2 роки тому

      Its still safe to use, as long as you didnt have the chain brake on as well, and burn the clutch. If its not melted underneath the bar cover(the cover with the two nuts on the side) then it should be safe to use still.
