My family did this in 2014. We cut the cable and installed antenna. We saved a bunch of money
I cut the cord on cable and joined Directv Now just 3 months ago, most kick-ass decision I've done in a while! I also got Netflix and Amazon Video on my back too.
I heard Direct Tv buffered too much ! Have you found that to be true ?
I've only experienced buffering a couple of times so far.
ColonielLizardT4 You're a fake account
We just did the same thing. Cut off directv and went with directv now. We love it plus we already had Netflix and Hulu. There’s an app called plutotv also with free channels, movies, and music
sweetbrandigirl ours hasn’t buffered a lot since we’ve switched but they will have periods when it drops completely. Tonight is the second time it’s done it but it’s usually in the middle of the night. The DVR is still in beta so there are some things that needs work there but most of the shows I watch can be found on hulu or their parent company app. The small issues it has doesn’t bother me. I wouldn’t go back to satellite
After pricing everything to get exactly what I want, I discovered the monthly savings of cutting the cord to be negligible. Even though I live under 20 miles from a major city, antenna reception is spotty at best. Some days I can get a good signal on many channels, other days I can't get anything. It all depends on the weather. The streaming services that offer locals only carry a handful of locals, not all of them. Bottom line: to get the locals I want to watch, I still need cable's Broadcast Basic package. Reducing my cable TV to just broadcast basic though will increase what the cable company charges for internet by $15. Then, once I add in Netflix, Amazon, and/or Hulu, I'm back to pretty close to what I'm already paying for cable.
Cable should be free! And
Internet too! Street parking free!.
You completely skipped over all the Google products. Chromecast and UA-cam TV work great!
Chromecast + youtube + showbox 👍
The problem I’ve faced is that when you add basic internet plus streaming it’s pretty much the same price as basic cable and internet packages....
Alex Maddox Except for the fact that you'd be contract free and won't have to pay for box rental fees (or the myriad of miscellaneous "fees") that cable companies charge. Another benefit is that you end up realizing how much time and money you wasted on awful shows. I watch much less TV since we cut the cord 2 years ago.
Alex Maddox I did get my bill down, but even thought they give you every movie channel possible, you don't get all channels. The YT app is really great, but no hbo etc..
I think my best$$$ Is Spectrum streaming, with AMAZON&NETFLIX for more content
If you want to eliminate box rental fees, just get a HDHomeRun Prime and a cable card from your cable provider. Most providers will give you the cable card for free with no rental fees and Comcast will even give you a $2.50/month credit if you have just the cable card and no boxes. The HDHomeRun Prime will allow you to stream your cable signal to any Android SmartTV, Smartphone, computer, or streaming device (i.e. Amazon Fire TV, NVIDIA Shield TV, etc) and currently supports watching 3 separate channels on 3 separate devices simultaneously. Also it works with media server applications like PLEX. PLEX is free for basic features but if you buy a PLEXPass (which the last time I looked was $4/month, $40/year, or $120 lifetime) you get DVR capabilities. Plus PLEX can stream your content beyond your home network to anywhere in the world as long as you have sufficient bandwidth (both up & down).
Alex Maddox My expenses are definitely and noticeably down. Right now I'm paying just $40 for internet and $10 for DirectTV Now. Also have a free month of SlingTV after buying an Amazon Fire Stick. SlingTV will end in a few weeks, while DirectTV Now ends in 2 1/2 months. I'll probably go back with SlingTV and be paying around $65-70 a month. Still down from the $110 I was paying Time Warner, without any internet or wireless options mind you. Best decision I ever made right now.
No local news, no local sports, no deal. I tried this and they blacked out all four local big league sports teams. Until that gets fixed screw this.
Great info. Would love to see a video that goes deeper into the antennas.
Does anyone recommend a good Over the Air DVR box. I have a really old one and dont know what good in the market.
I got on the Fire TV bandwagon years ago when it first came out, I have 2 Fire TV boxes and 1 Fire TV stick. But after owning a Shield TV I will not buy any more Fire TV devices. Android TV is a much nicer interface with less clutter, which puts apps first instead of Google's content first. Android TV interface is also customizable which allows you to put which apps and content you want to see first. Also the Google Assistant for me gives me better responses than Alexa.
I'm hoping to see a more cost-effective Android TV solution then the shield in the future. Like some kind of Android TV stick from Google or nVidia for around $50. I really want to see Android TV for the masses to keep this platform going because I really honestly think it's the best platform out there.
Hi,we just bought TCL Roku Tv for the bedroom...In the living room .We have cable on a non smart flat screen tv but it DOES have HDMI ports. Our plan is to cut the cable and add SLING to the Roku Tv...Our question is how do we connect ,sync, pair, our living room TV to the Roku TV, so we can get all the same channels in the living room that we get on the bedroom TV.?
Here's a topic you may consider to cover in the future... How to "cut the cord" and yet keep the internet. Seems you NEED the cable company to provide that service. The cost to delete TV and the land-line phone is like 30 bucks cheaper than if you paid for all three. So... where exactly is the savings? Hmmm.
I have a tv with built in roku. Do I still need internet to stream?
great video, I'm looking to cancel my cable in 2 months and I already have good internet connection, Netflix, Amazon Prime. Sounds like I just need to add Hulu.
That's not really cutting the cord. It's substituting from one cord to the other. You need the internet in this instance. Going over the air for free tv, that's cutting the cord.
Powerful satellite dish + high quality sat receiver + shady guy to do programming = the best TV.
Did Sling. You need an antenna to get local channels. Never did Vue. Directv Now has all local networks and all important channels, and a working cloud DVR, for $100 for first three months ($35/m after) and a FREE AppleTV. Great deal and no contract.
Clear, simple and actionable info. Thanks
I cut cable 7 years ago and never looked back. My tv finally died so now I just brought a Roku tv. I have a Sharp one and it has all the feathers and apps I need and want.
I cut cable two years ago. This video is way overblown.....this video makes it all too complicated, the way he explains it, you may as well have cable. Just get a Roku and a good wireless service (phone or a hotspot device) and your done!!
so download roku on my smartphone thats it???
@@jdicari9534 - I'm sure you can find a solution that works for you........
Nothing new here.
Hi, i live in Sweden, is it possible to have it here?
For Streaming people I know have Netflix or Hulu. And for live TV just uses SlingTV, HuluTV or Direct TV Now. However in my apartment I get cable for pretty much free buy Spectrum so that’s kind of a sweet deal for me.
I cut my bill down by over 100 bucks a month. Still got 4 streaming apps great move.
Also keep in mind that many home internet services do you have a data limit on your account. Many people are not aware of this. In some cases such as satellite internet (ugh) you literally can have as little as 50 gigabytes per month. Others are typically 500 to 1000 gigs. Sounds like a lot, but when you literally start streaming almost everything, you can go through that quickly if you are a medium heavy too heavy TV watcher.
Would I be able to watch my local news?
Ok so we are paying well over $200 a month for commercials up the wazzoo and are board out of our minds. We do stream with our dvd players and Gaming hardware but, What does the cost end up being compared to the get nothing for your dollar setup we have now?
Hey random person scroling through the comments, i hope you have an awesome day!
Thanks ❤
I still can not get much college football on SEC Network, Fox Sports 1 and 2, etc, etc
Or am I wrong ?
no your right. update - 4-17-2019 . Its now getting harder to find. getting more expensive
Cut the cord 6 months ago. Have an HD antenna with Amazon, UA-cam red, and Netflix, which I had prior to cutting. Don't miss live TV at all. Save $60/mo. Try it.
Cord-cutting here in the Philippines is quite tricky and costly.
Cable in the Philippines is like $15 a month!
Can I use Hulu without a streaming device
IPTV is great, but the thing with Sling, PSVue, Direct TV Now is that the pause randomly during streams sometimes. I don't know why they haven't fixed this yet.
Do NOT GET THE FIRE CUBE, this is clearly sponsored, it is a HORRIBLE UNDERPOWERED streaming box. DO NOT BUY
chemicalsam nvidia shield TV
“Cutting the cord” It all sounds good. However, you still unfortunately have to pay those bastards for the internet service if you want to be able to stream. So, you’re not really cutting the cord. So to speak. At least this video wasn’t titled cutting the cord like some are.😂
P F Well you gotta pay to play somewhere unless you just like watching Network TV. I'd tell people to just watch the prices on these internet tv services like SlingTV, DirectTV Now, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, Fubu, and UA-cam TV. They're all starting to slowly raise their prices. In a few years, the cable pricing and forced channel buying, could become an internet streaming issue.
You can get 4G/LTE router or hotspot the connection from your phone and save money for just having one internet connection.
I pay 19,8$/month for 100mbps and unlimited calls and texts and thats enough bandwith for three devices, but that depends by the location where you live.
P F
You own stock in the company and let the dividends pay for it.
ScreenVariety Tv stream looking pretty juicy :)
Why do you need those boxes if everything comes in the tv??
Some people don't have smart TVs. Some older smart TVs may not support certain streaming apps.
You failed to discuss the 2 most important factor for cutting cable....cost and content. Why would someone cut the cable only to pay for these addition services and potentially missing some content? These two areas need to be discuss in order to find the option.
I have a basic question, how can I cut the cord if my internet provider is the cable company, the way they bundle their packages I'm stuck getting my TV signal from them.
Blejzeros Amigos you can lower you bill if they have a streaming option...
The US is technologically far behind most developed countries
Jill Spady I pay $80 per month for internet (💯 Mbps) and basic cable+free cinemax channel I don't think I can go lower than that, I can't understand people spending$250 per month for cable, there's nothing good on TV to watch, 90% of content is garbage
People pay $250 per month for cable??
Jason ua-cam.com/video/9_IP2UJfYKU/v-deo.html
so- endless choices/decisions/ changes/confusion... such a chore~ I don't have the energy to constantly diddle with all of this.
Wouldn’t recommend an antenna. I got the leaf but only picked up a couple of the locals and it won’t work if you hide it behind the tv. My buddies got a high end one for the attic and hooked up to the router so you can access via a smart app. Ok solution but the best for me was getting DirecTV Now for $10 a month. I have all the channels I used to watch with TWC, HBO and DVR included. I’m not tethered to the house either so we can watch on my cell or at the beach house. I get all the locals too. It’s the best deal going that I know of. If you have an unlimited AT&T cell plan when I signed up for mine they took $25 off the $35 price so I’ve been paying $10 a month for a while. The user interface isn’t perfect but $10 vs the cheapest TWC plan of $60 is a steal. If you have kids being able to put on Disney Jr or Nick Jr when you’re in the car or a restaurant is a life saver and worth the price alone for that.
Justin Jackson How are you getting local television on DirectTV Now? I haven't been able to figure that out yet.
Art Dog it should appear along side your other channels in abc order. Depends on which mkt you’re in which locals you get. You can use their tool, put in your zip and it’ll tell which locals are available. I’m fortunate to have all the locals in my mkt.
First you have to live in an area where you actually have decent Internet! I know I know it’s hard to believe in 2018 there still people that only have 3 Mbps dsl. America’s Internet sucks
Sling is terrible. Constantly has streaming issues. I switch back and forth between it and Spectrum on Roku and craptastic spectrum is far better.
You can’t even search the guide while watching TV. The channels are limited for the cost effective package, and its interface is slow.
I tried cutting the cord and between UA-camrs and gaming I couldn't stay under my data cap for xfinity. I went back to xfinity and I'm paying the same price after taxes
No local news, no local sports, no deal. I tried this and they blacked out all four local big league sports teams. Until that gets fixed screw this.
dope background music
No matter what you still need cable because that's where the internet comes from
ok but what about streaming content that's not American or European?
Wow complete bias here. Nothing about UA-cam or UA-cam tv chrome cast.
I see all these people asking questions and no one seems to give any answers. WTH
An antenna’....my god,...the legends are true.........
This only works when your ISP doesn't have a data cap. I had to go back to directv
Ever wonder why ads are allowed to run on television
stations in the greater New York area for cable operations knowing dam well
they are not available to everyone, since the five crime cable operators have divided
the city up among themselves, no out siders allowed, cross boundaries are strictly
forbidden, or a visit from a diamond pinky ringed mobster may come a calling to
enforce them dare rules…
Now, there's Disney+ & HBO Max.
Another good learning video ruined by annoying, unnecessary, and too loud background "music."
Nah, the best android tv box is Nvidia Shield which has prime video app by default. I own fire tv and it blows it out of the water. Plus if you get the game controller it has far field tech it can be use for voice commands just like you would with the Fire cube, it's so much better. I have the cube as well and it needs work. My Daily Driver is the Shield, chromecast built in and it won't be changing anytime soon plus all those free games you get it cant be beat.
It's super fast moving around, changing channels is buttery smooth. I've tried sling, direct tv, you tube tv, hulu tv all work great. Hell any app works amazing It's well worth the price tag.
This is a side note:
If for those cord shavers that use hdhomerun you can watch drm channels now on the shield with the most recent hdhomerun app update.
mario soto Seems to be the best choice based on most people, but too expensive for me right now. Trying to keep costs down.
I just wish people weren't so damn stingy with the streaming rights of certian shows & movies. Just cross-platform all existing content & give everyone who has some level of ownership a percentage of the profits. It really shouldn't be this hard or clusterfucked. Also I cant stand how these cable companies can get a hold of the rights to movies & TV they didnt make & charge what every they want or force people to subscribe to their services. I'm all for 100% getting rid of the aging dinosaur that is cable TV in favor of streaming or digital download but lits of issues still need to be ironed out. Mostly the legal issues & greed that stops us from watching anything we want.
Will do one better. Pluto tv has free tv with out subscription, tubi is like netfix but free, and ofcourse netflix and hulu.
Cable is getting outrageous
I get 6 Mbs......and that cost me $54.00 per month plus $27.00 in taxes per month.....
Won't ur date rates be high as hell?
Not everyone can afford the higher speed internet. You pay a lot for the higher speed internet you may as well just keep your cable service.
Then cutting cable isnt the right decision for you. And if you dont want to cut cable then why are you watching a video about the best way to do it?
So basically you sign up to multiple services just to watch a movie streaming is not all that great
Smart TVs are stupid Any flat screen with a PC plugged into an HDMI port is much smarter.Even a Chromecast is smarter than a stupid smart TV.
Honestly, get a Chromecast, they have more support
I was so poor I could not afford to get cable ,now cable dont even exist any more .lol . I'm from the bronx NYC. Damn . . Why do old people still watching 1950 tv shows . It's like a living hell to watch them.corny shows .when they go to sleep anyway
that is literally what i am doing now but using a playstation 4 instead.
seriously the best streaming box is the nvidia shield dont waste your money on amazon fire tv boxes are junk boxes...there are so many better boxes out there..watch you tube some more for comparison videos and youll see how bad amazon boxes really are!
and why pay for netflix or hulu or any other get terrarium tv or an eye pee tee vee subscription and ur done no payments to anyone!!
Trolling at its finest. 😂
I don’t know about other streaming device since I’ve only used Fire TV, but you are right about them been junk. Mines is constantly freezing and crashing, lagging and It is not my internet service , because I have professional system installed and very little running on it simultaneously or running at all. It is also hard wired with a very good quality cables.
ColonielLizardT4 just comon sense haha
donovan cherryholme I have my Fire TV for 6 months and never experienced freezing not once.
Spending money on streaming (apart from paying for internet)? Wtf? Why are you even streaming anyways, if you're gonna stream stream on a free platform...
All Internet provides do not guarantee speed on wireless. You have to be hard wired for guaranteed speed. Quit wasting your Internet provider time complaining about your wireless speed!
What useless recommendation about Tv Box for sure. this Channel was be sponsored because they forget the mention the best product of the market in this category
I cut the cable & smashed the Dish W I F I for me !!
That damn music is SO distracting! How am I supposed to concentrate on what you're saying?
If your sports guy sling TV, DirecTV now and Playstation Vue are not going to be for you. Id go with fubotv
your pearson on the video talks to dam fast! slow down so we can get it!
I cut the chord 2 years sgo. Cricket is my cell phone provider with unlimited calls, texts, and data only for $55 a month. after 22g of data usage, thevthrottle, but this has never impacted me. I have a huge Sony flat screen TV 2016 technology. I simply screen mirror to my tv. screen mirroring is part of the Samsung native software in settings. there are so many websites to steam videos from. you tube is great. dropped Netflix cause it sux. haven't found a paid subscription that is decent.
Next time just shake a big ass ring of keys it will be less annoying than the.
That was awesome. Thank you.... This is illegal and immoral :(
Considering the u.s. has some of the shittiest internet on the planet I'll stick with satellite
Chromecast is way better than those
I'm watching TV online on ScreenVariety
Stop watching the garbage all together. There is a big beautiful world outside you are ignoring while your eyeballs are glued to a screen. Quit watching and start living!
Why am I not surprised to see this comment.....
LOLOLOL!! Don't listen to one word in this video, other than buying a set top box or Amazon product.
Everything proven these TV now days are terrible yet everything proven the older tv cable connections proven there more greater then internet specially cable don't have locking up problem's like internet does now days
Comcast Data Cap: 1TB\month. FUCK COMCAST
Simone Novak
Nothing but garbage, get Mobdro, terrarium and Morpheus Tv ,look it up on here how to get on fire stick or tv.
I have terranium TV on my Android device but how do I get it on my Roku so I can watch it on my television??
And whats all this hubbubb that Elon Musk is promoting. Is this going to be free internet ?
