Where are ALL the Walleyes?

- This is Otter Tail Lake in Northwest Minnesota. Its is a big lake at 13,725 acres, and is different than most lakes we fish. It has super clear water, with a sandy bottom and very few weeds. Its is suppose to be a walleye factory, but we might need some advice on where to find them, since we are not very good walleye fishermen. Other than that, it is a beautiful lake! Several times I wanted to jump out of the boat and go swimming.
If you are enjoying these videos, or would like to suggest a lake for me to review, please let me know in the comments, or email me at: rande@gomidwestfishing.com

How awesome was that sturgeon sighting!! That was basically my experience every time I am looking to catch a walleye.
Walleye fishermen make it look so easy. This lake is known as a Walleye lake, so I had to try!
That is one beautiful lake, Rande, thanks for sharing! Also, I didn't know those A350 winglets were meant for slicing the tails off of smaller planes who get in your way.
It wasn't a Skywest plane, so all is good.
My Uncle an Cousins had a place on big pine lake for many yrs, right by where the toad river flows into the lake.im in southern illinois and i use to go up and stay with my cousins an grandparents in the summer for a few weeks,we also fished Cormorant lake(my aunts cabin).i remember the ottertail river ran between little pine an big pine lake.fishing was good back in the 70's and 80's,have not been up there to fish in many yrs but we did catch alot of walleyes trolling on big pine lake.u guys should try your luck there, good luck.
Thanks for the suggestion. I do plan on going back there, and will definitely hit Big Pine when we do.
DNR started stocking sturgeon in the early 2000s they are now there everywhere up and down the ottertail river system. We have a cabin upstream on Rush lake mid July early August the sturgeon congregate on the sandy points 15-20 feet of water and look like logs on side scan. Its also the time of year they jump out the water on hot calm days, there's splashing constantly if your fishing.
I was surprised to see a sturgeon here. I didn't realize there were so many of them. I always heard it was a great walleye lake, so that's what I was expecting. It would be a cool lake to go swimming in, but I had a hard time fishing it.
Hi Rande! Beautiful lake and views! "Where's the fish!?" Lol Great day either way! Hope your having a great weekend!
My grandparents had a place on otter tail. Spent lots of time as a youngster there. Suprised to see how clear the water is. I'd love to get back to ottertail.
The water was super clear, and combine that with a golden sandy bottom, it looked really nice.
DNR has been messing up lakes for about 10 years now. All I catch is bass now. Walleye up north on big lakes.
I thought it was just me, but it seems like the walleyes are harder to find here now.
That looks like an excellent lake for a Ned rig and a pond perch! Thank you for not showing any snake exposure🤣😂. It's a Bummer that the second location didn't work.
The Dead River is a 17.5-mile-long tributary of the Otter Tail River of Minnesota in the United States. It rises east of Dent and flows south through Dead Lake and Walker Lake to its mouth at Otter Tail Lake on the Otter Tail River. The name Dead River commemorates a massacre of the Ojibwe Indians.
@@SlayermikeFishingandMOREotter tail river also connects big pine and little pine lakes, grew up fishing there in the summers at my uncles place on big pine.there was also a creek or small river on the north end of big pine lake called toad creek, lol. At night the walleyes could be caught by the mouth of those creeks.
Man, you're full of great info. I was really hoping to navigate up the dead river, but those waves were really big and I had no idea what the water depths were. I'd be all about it in calm waters, but I didn't feel like getting stuck after a full day of fishing.
great video and fish my friends
Thanks John.
I hate when all the fish are hiding! I am also glad that no one pulled out their snake lol
You and me both. No one needs to see a snake in a boat.
I am guessing Reggie does not like that lake.
Looked great with the clear water.
Yeah, Reggie wasn't shy about voicing his opinion about this lake.
Hey, I really enjoyed the videos. Question: What camera do you use for your underwater shots. Nice an clear
Hi James. I attach a gopro to the bottom of an Aqua-vu underwater camera. That way I can see what I'm recording, but can capture it in 4K. None of the underwater cameras that have DVR record in good enough quality, so that's why I use the gopro. I made a video a few years ago on exactly how I do it. Thank you 👍
I’m not a fan of this lake. LOL! As always you guys did great job 👍
They can't all be winners. I really tried to like this lake too.
Lots for sale? Kinda like the new pants that were for sale 😂 Nice clear water but didn’t make Reggie happy…
Well, Reggie is a hard one to please. I made him troll. Reggie hates trolling.
Lots of them got speared!!
Zebbra muscles
Great video sadly but the best fishing lake 😂
I was expecting more from this lake, but then it could just be me.
DNR alowed the northerns to be 30 inch mimimum and loaded the lake with egg eating sturgeon. Take a guess at what happened. No perch shallow. Few walleye shallow, Major walleye tourny couple years ago and bottom 25% of boats caught an average of 2 fishe per day per boat. This is the biggest walleye tourney of the year by the way.
The local guides do not guide on the lake no more.
That's because local guides aren't gonna have their clients fish in the dark. OT is a low light lake if you wanna fish shallow. If the clarity is 10+ ft how do you expect to not spook walleye in shallow water?
@@jordanbosch295 We would troll anytime during the day 6 to 10 feet with anything similar to a shad rap 5 getting limits of walleye, some over 20 inches and 9 to 10 inch perch.
The local guides do not fish the lake because it is very difficult to catch a decent limit of walleye since the northerns have been allowed to ruin the shallows and wipe out many of the perch. Every local angler will verify this. I get some on lead core and suspended but it is nothing like it used to be.
@abc-yv2js do a ton of vacationing in the area and have never bothered to start fishing until an hour before sunset. Same tactics but much more efficient when it's low light
@@jordanbosch295 I wont argue that. Right before dark would be my #1 choice if I only had a 2 hour window of time. All I can say is the 30 inch minimum on the northetns did change the whole shallow water perch and walleye thing within 2 years. There's better fishermen out there than me too. I hope the fishing gods dont make me go back to the cane pole and snoopy rod and reel and start fropm scratch now. Good luck out there
That all makes a lot of sense. Thanks for all the info.
