- Editing zoom interviews can quickly become tedious with all the video and audio tracks to keep in sync. By breaking our zoom interview into a multicam clip, we can create more engaging content while making our own lives easier!
Sequence Settings Used:
Editing Mode: Custom
Timebase: 24 frames
Frame Size: 1920 horizontal, 1080 vertical
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels
Fields: No Fields (Progressive Scan)
Production Gear Used:
Premiere Pro CC 2021
DaVinci Resolve 17
Tascam DR-70d
Sony ECM-673 Shotgun Mic
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you, Mark! Would be great if you start putting tutorials up again.
Great video all of my interviews are created in Zoom I have never seen this before well done 👍
Am subscribing immediately 👍👍👍 nice video
Great video. I have been going through entire videos going through it manually manipulating opacity.... This will save me hours 😂😂
One question though. If I have objects like frames etc. How can I make them all show simultaneously for one button click?
Hey there, thanks for watching. This is a question that really warrants a separate video, but I won't be able to get to it for a while.
I'll try to explain as best as possible here. These steps assume that your sequence is set up in the same way this video shows.
1. In your sequence called Multicam 01, right click on the clip you want to add a border to.
2. Select "Nest..." again. Open the newly created sequence.
3. Inside of this doubly nested sequence, add your border or other graphics that you want to keep with your video. Premiere Pro will treat all these graphics as if they were baked into the original recording.
4. Return back to your "Multicam 01" sequence and adjust your "Crop" effect if necessary
5. Return to your main editing sequence. Your graphics should now be "attached" to one of your Multicam Angles for convenient editing.
Hope this helps!
Fire!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you teach how to edit in CapCut?
HI! How can you have one on top of the other, say for repurposing a Zoom interview for a TikTok video? And can this be done in PRemiere Rush? THANKS!
Mark, Is there a reason why you didn't try to use the multi-cam view in the monitor to switch or edit the cuts? Also, can you describe the workflow if you want to enhance the "gallery view with a background and titling?
Hi David, thanks for watching. Honestly, it's been a while since I created this video - so I can't recall why I avoided the multicam monitor. I am very familiar with the multicam monitor, so it was a conscious decision though. If I had to guess, I think I was trying to keep the video as simplistic and linear as possible to make it as accessible as I could to all skill levels.
As for your other question, I responded to another viewer with a similar question - copying a slightly modified version of that info here!
These steps assume that your sequence is set up in the same way this video shows.
1. In your sequence called Multicam 01, right click on your gallery view clip you want to add graphics to.
2. Select "Nest..." again. Open the newly created sequence.
3. Inside of this doubly nested sequence, first add the "crop" effect WITHOUT zoom to your video clip. Crop the top and bottom, so none of the black background is visible.
3.5 Add your border or other graphics that you want to keep with your video, using the video tracks above your clip.. Premiere Pro will treat all these graphics as if they were baked into the original recording.
4. Return back to your "Multicam 01" sequence. Now you're done!
I am planning on a video covering this workflow in the future, but I will not be able to get to it for a while.
Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions!
@@markteachesvideo6664 I have a question please
How do I create an picture frame type border for webcam fades in & out
My question is
What is the best way to get professional audio without separating the audio tracks from a Zoom interview please
For the best audio, recording the sound outside of Zoom is really the only way to go - programs like Audacity can be used to record the audio on each computer and can be synced up later. If audio MUST be attached to the Zoom file, then there's not a lot of options. Just make sure to feed a high quality mic into each computer, and probably turn on "Use original sound" in the Zoom settings as well.
@@markteachesvideo6664 cool I use a PreSonus Revalator usb microphone
Thank you for your help
Somehow the 1-2-3 numbers don't work. I can't switch between the different cameras. When i use Mutlicam View (or monitor?) it only shows me one of the three layers/cams, instead of all 3?
Try the wrench icon in the program monitor and select : show multicamera preview montior.....
Hey, my footage gets so worse when zoomed, what should i do?
Unfortunately, this is an expected side effect of this approach. If you need a higher quality end result, then everybody on the Zoom call will need to record their own cameras and send the video files to the editor.
The approach in the video is designed to be easy for the participants on the Zoom call, but this comes at the cost of some quality loss.
Ok I made it to the end of the multicam set up but, when I click ALT 1-2-3 I don't get the different views 😰😰I don't know what I did wrong.
Hey Kaylia, thanks for watching! Some things we can try:
- In your parent timeline, right click the video clip and go to "Multicamera". Make sure that "Enable" has a checkmark next to it
- In the same multicamera menu, you should see "Camera 1", "Camera 2" etc. Try using these to switch your view, if it works then the keyboard shortcuts are the problem
- For the keyboard shortcuts themselves, use 1, 2, and 3 without holding alt. We only use alt when clicking on the video clip to select the video without also selecting the audio. If we skip this step, Premiere will try to switch the "angle" of our audio to tracks 1, 2, or 3 - most of these don't have any sound in them!
Please don't hesitate to follow up here if you have any more questions!
@@markteachesvideo6664 thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. Really appreciate it. I'm going to try this and let you know. Hopefully it works.
@@markteachesvideo6664 it worked!🥳🥳 clicking in the camera's manually! I just unlinked the audio so I wouldn't lose it. Final question, sorry I'm a Premier amateur. How to I get the tab back to see the original timeline with each camera? Thanks again for your help!
Glad it worked! At the top of Premiere, go to Window -> project to open the project bin. From here, hold alt and double click your Multicam timeline from the project bin, this should open up the timeline for you! (On some computers, you need to double click the timeline without holding alt - so try both!)
@@markteachesvideo6664 perfect got it! Thank you so much! really appreciate your help. I'll be watching more of your videos! This helped me a lot!
What is your top left docking square?
Thanks for watching. The top left panel is the Project panel, where all media files and timelines for your Premiere Pro project are accessed. You can open this by going to Window -> Project.
@@markteachesvideo6664 YOu are a legend! Great tutorial and thank you for responding so fast! SUBSCRIBBED!
@@markteachesvideo6664 Ok once I hit Control C to get the cut tool, how do I go back to just my mouse to not have the cut tool anymore? Thankyou!
@@dillonbrooks7807 By default, the keyboard shortcut "v" should switch to your selection tool. You can also activate this by clicking on the selection tool in the tool box: Window -> Tools, I believe - although I don't have access to a computer right now to check. Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!
How am I already confused 60 seconds in..fckng hell😔 I REALLY NEED TO LEARN THIS.. feels like a different language
Sorry to hear that! It really is like learning a new language, so don't beat yourself up over it. It isn't easy!
If you can give me a specific question, I can give you a specific answer.
I lost you after 1:45
Hey Aj, thanks for checking out my video!
Alt (or option) clicking on the video clip will allow us to turn on multi-cam for the video without turning it on for the audio. Since we only have one audio source (the Zoom Call audio), turning the linked audio and video into a multicam would result in the Zoom audio being muted whenever we switch to a close-up.
If there's a problem with opening up the multicam clip to edit it, another way of doing it would be to right click on your nested clip -> Reveal in project -> Right click the multicam clip inside the media bin (it should be highlighted now) -> Open in timeline.
@@markteachesvideo6664 will let you know :)
