    Hi, Kizzie. I am in the UK. I was really impressed by your first time beekeeping experiences. Tips. Don't barbeque the bees. Swarms are having a party , they don't need a lot of smoke. It will only make them aggressive in the long run. Bees are very sensitive to vibrations, so think carefully about thumping your smoker down on the box. Slow, gentle actions. Why did you clean off the post?? It will be coated with bee pheromone, and could easily attract another swarm in the future. You're doing fine!! keep it up!!

    Tip : For Swarm Captures.
    Better to Smoke the Stragglers from behind them, so they move away from the Smoke and Towards your Skep (Temporary Hive : Straw Skep, Cardboard Box, Correx Nuc Box etc.)
    Tip : a Frame of old Dark Comb, spritzed with a little Sugar Water (1:1 Syrup... encourages the Bees to go into the 'Desired Capture Box,' and feast ! They will March right in. Nice !
    If your Driving a long Distance : Bees need good Air Flow and Ventilation... or they will overheat ! Use a Full Mesh Floor, and a full Mesh Crown Board, with a Damp Cloth over it... they turn the moist material into their own kind of A/C by fanning it through the Hive. 👍
    * Or Poke small Holes, eg a Knitting Needle in your Cardboard Box, small enough for Air Circulation but not big enough for the Bees to escape. Again covering them with some Damp Cloth... to keep things Cool. 😎

    Happy Beekeeping 2022.

    That's why it is important to locate the queen as you're trying to move a swarm......if she's in the box, all them will be in the box eventually lol.

    So proud of your accomplishment! Impressive. Praise the Lord! Aggressive bees sometimes produce more honey and protect themselves better. Just place them a greater distance from the public. Also scrape the stinger off next time instead of pulling it out. When placing bees in the swarm box apart from the open entrance, cover the top of the box each time you shake some bees into it so that they do not readily fly out. You can paint your boxes different colors so as to help the bees to more readily identify their box. Light colors such as white, purple, violet and blue (avoid dark colors and black). Lastly, bees need water for drinking and keeping hives cool during hot summers, have a source of cool clean water near by (use a flotation device or place water in a shallow container so bees will not drown.

    for every time there is a FIRST. AWESOME job and teamwork! very unique catch on a fence post. try this tip next time you go for a swarm removal; purchase a type of spray called bee gone. normally sprayed in the honey super to evacuate the bee's within a few hours-day to harvest honey. spray where the swarm was located(on the post) so they will not return to the swarm location and stay in the hive. just a suggestion.
    CONGRATULATIONS!

    Great job! God is good! Just stuff the smoker with grass when you're done and it will go out pretty quickly. Interesting to see how many survive the winter. My first full year I lost 80% of my bees, but the survivors bounced back pretty quickly, had nearly three times as many hives the next winter and only lost less than 10%, a mild winter helped. We'll see how this winter goes, (my third year)

    Well done guys. But pay attention to it. The genes of the swarms usually they keep same. We have a saying in my county about bees : what is from the tree brunch on the brunch will go ! Personally I don’t like to get swarms. But I start this way as well. And now at 680+ hives Am so happy to see the happiness on you guys ! !!!!

      @@FromCityToCountryLiving this year will be the 26 season ( year ). But the first 8 years I do it slow and not care to much ( I start when I was 16 years old. And just go to bees when I have time and multiply them and make hives with the money I make from honey sale ). I live in the city. Hives are in country side at grandmother house. I was in school. So I get every 2-3 weeks to country side. Of course lose swarms ....almost zero care for them for many years. After I start to take care of them. From 15 years ago become a proper business ....open a firm and then become business process. I expand on own profits and never get a grant , subsidy or financial support. When you do it this way is the most steady development ! You know your power ! I don’t know how is there in your country. But after a certain amount of hives you can ask for financial aid , enroll in some beekeeping associations at local level and have some exchanges , study regulations and law on this matter ! It can be a job and self sustain at a good level for whole family ( but this at 40-50 hives you can see it is a good source of income to family ). 80-100 hives already is a good revenue ! But this all depends on what type of honey you produce and the quality and to who you can sale .....you have a market channel now ! Sure some of your viewers can buy ....keep good quality and buyers will be always looking for you ! At my capacity only the Sunflower honey I sale it bulk about 80%. But the rest of the honey I sale it individually and it’s a lot of honey to sale this way at good price because I build my own clients.

    It's not necessary to smoke a swarm, you could have also scoop them off with your hands until you thin them out enough to find the queen. Well that's how I would have done it.

    • @FromCityToCountryLiving
      @FromCityToCountryLiving  2 роки тому +1

      I tried that when I started off, that’s when I got stung so I decided against it. Not that experienced yet to scoop up with my hands just yet.

    get rid of that brush, it is not your friend and the bees will remind you one day of it if you keep using it that it a bad idea, buy some swarm commander or do as MMB says. you could have also used the frame to lift them off the post, once you have the majority of the bees in the box, place it on the fence post and watch the rest walk in.

    • @FromCityToCountryLiving
      @FromCityToCountryLiving  2 роки тому

      Unfortunately we don’t have swarm commander here in the UK. It has to be ordered from the US. Haven’t been able to find it here at all. It was very windy too the box kept swaying in the wind. We didn’t want it to fall so we used that plastic chair to keep it above the tall grass. Would love to get our hands on some swarm commander though.
