after listening about 5 times, i think this song is about someone who wants to change. it reminds me of ocd a bit, because they’re getting intrusive thoughts or voices telling them to do things when they’re trying to live peacefully, but they stop getting the urge once they finally do the thing. they close themselves off to avoid getting hurt or seen as bad for their repetitive but hurtful actions. it hurts them, but it’s so much worse if they don’t do the action. the voodoo doll you stab and stab again insinuates another [person or the urges] is/are in control. the next verses show more that the person is getting tired of following these urges. they see it’s harmful to themselves and others while the embodiment of the compulsions or maybe a person saying “you have to do these things, like before they’re what stops you from things that are worse”. they stop letting the urges take control, and start rebelling, but it ends badly when they want to go back to following and doing what they did in the “alluring past”. the song ends with them feeling horrible and falling apart, dying somehow or ending their own life, the pain being too much to bear in the end.
