Pretty spot on what Seth will approach on Pokemon card investment. Although I believe he wouldn’t buy any Pokemon cards for investment 😂 but yeah, the principles apply on any investment: value centric approaches, research on its intrinsic value for long term potentials, buy low sell high, strict discipline (no fomo) …

To me, Pokemon Investing is a double edged sword for one reason. You have the physical investment in your possession. It's great because things like ETBs are nice to look at, but it also takes up space, reminds you of it's presence constantly, and makes you itch to open it. If you look at an ETB like a $50 stock, it''s really nice to hold it in your hands and have something to show for it besides a number on a screen, but it also makes it very difficult to hold onto it for a long time. I can easily forget about my stocks and let them ride for years, but every time I look at my sealed Pokemon products I go "hm wonder what that's worth today". Just my two cents. Thanks for the great videos!

Appreciate you sharing this info from a book so scarce in the investing books market. I can’t stress how important points 3 and 5 are either especially for those spending even a tenth of their income on this hobby, patience and discipline. Open your boxes if thats what you want and enjoy them but on the investing side holding onto a sword and shield set booster box you’re most likely not going to lose money. Love your content PokeOz and always excited for what you’ve got next mate!

I believe evo skies will go up spoke to sort of people in the hobby that sold off there booster cases as re-prints was expected but never came it’s the only thing I’ve over payed for really but I believe in it long term so took the hit on it

Can I ask you why you put the Battle Styles TTB in the thumbnail? There has to be a reason because coincidentally that is the set I am investing in
Just that it flies under the radar but I've changed it to paldea evolved now to match up with the example 👌
Charizard also has an alt art card in S&V 151 and Obsidian Flames.
But that's a good point. The question is if Pokemon Company will make more and more alt arts of the most popular pokemon. If not, then prices of those Charizards will go up, but I feel like Pokemon Company treat Charizard as a cash cow
I guess they refer to them as illustration rares now with a different rarity but they feel the same hey!

I collect sets and cards I enjoy, If I intend to complete a master set then I will also get a PC ETB, for me its about collecting and enjoying the hobby without going overboard, knowing it could be worth more years down the road makes me feel better about it but I wouldn't say I see it as an investment.

I still think that true value investing, at least as applies to the stock market requires the investment to generate a yearly income, even though the US tends not to pay this out as dividends due to unfavorable tax reasons.
The ‘value’ of of both income and capital growth increases with the lower price paid to capture the reasons why both may be high now or in the future.
For example, a desirable property due to location bought at a low price would capture both high rent and sale price if the property was sold. Once upon a time, in Australia, such a property was that low price when interest rates were in excess of 17%pa.
Exactly right, pokemon is a speculative investment at best with the only opportunity being capital growth. But I think some of the principles can be applied. Thanks for tuning in and sharing some thoughts!

I think that Charizard Alt Art is crazily undervalued because 1. It’s Charizard and 2. Charizard is fighting Venasuar and if this tag team hype continues that card is the next best thing at least in the sword and shield era.
It does seem undervalued, which is the definition of value investing.
Yeah man, Warren Buffet said it best... The best trait any investor can have is: Temperament. Doesn't matter how smart someone is, if they are over emotional and make decisions based on that, they will be horrible investors.

Right now is not an ideal Pokemon market , the up trend is with btc and stocks
Pokemon should always be a small investment unless you have the gumption of someone like Rudy from Alpha!

Love this channel, i grew up with pokemon as a child in 90s, but i never had finances to buy anything, now im in my 30s, and now im fanacially stable that i have money to invest, and i saw 151 come out, and that took me to childhood, bought the booster bundle display cases, and im not opening them for the next minimum 20 years, hope its a good investment, for my retirement money. Also bought some Paradox rift, and made preorders from my local for Paldean Fates that will be released start of next year.
