  • The Los Angeles California Temple was once the largest Mormon Temple in the world. Tonight, Desmond Shaw teaches us a little bit about this Southern California landmark.

i loooove this. They have a beautiful visitor's center too for anyone wanting to visit and know more. It has a Christus statue and a room modeled after old jerusalem, along with family-centric movie theatres. Often sunday nights here have chorales and feel-good public talks.

At Christmas time musicians from all over the area come and share their talents at the visitors center. The light display is also amazing. Love this beautiful place of peace.

My family and I have been coming to this temple for years. It's a beautiful place where we can learn more about our Savior. Although only adults members of our church that have a recommend can enter inside the temple we love taking our kids or any visitors to the visitor center where they teach all about what goes on in the temple and about our beliefs. Anyone is welcome!

I love to visit this temple! It is such a beautiful, peaceful place, right in the middle of busy Los Angeles, and a great place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

It's very cool how the reporter shared some history, and so on. I wasn't aware that some of the land belonged to silent film star Harold Lloyd. Plus, if you caught it, he spoke with great respect about the LDS curch, and people as well.

When the temple was under construction, the members of the church would donate time weekly and assist in working at the temple sight, helping in the construction. After that time the church no longer asks the members to donate time. In the 50s & early 60s ships at sea would use the lite temple as a lighthouse to guide them and let them know they were near there dockings.

I always heard that this temple had genealogy records? Is that true?

Did the Mormon church pay for this? Sounds like it.

Every cent. The membership's funds directly made it happen.

For the video? Not likely...it sounds like it was suggested by a KCAL news watcher, then data was collected.
It felt like the broadcaster was introducing a Rose Parade float!

Correction: The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints members are not “Mormons”. Mormon was a prophet in The Book of Mormon. Latter-day Saints are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who are Christians. Thanks! 🙏🏻

a few years back the church launched its "I'm a Mormon" campaign and encouraged the nickname. Now they've changed their mind, but many people still use it as it's much more convenient than always using the full title.

Fun fact; actual cost of admission is 10% of all your gross income for as long as you live. As long as you keep paying, you can enter. If you stop, or decrease your payments, you lose your entry card. Even if your own child is being married in there, if you are behind on paying your full 10%, you can be barred from attending. There are other requirements as well as the monetary ones, but what an effective revenue stream for the Mormon church, no? It’s how they’ve amassed hundreds of billions in investment portfolio and real estate holdings.

Moroni points toward the return of Jesus Christ in the East. (symbolic of the sunrise - Son rise)
