I personally am going to pick up the game. I know that it will not be as challenging as Super Mario World for the SNES or Mario Odyssey. However, I didn’t get the chance to play it on the Wii U and I still think it looks like a lot of fun. Not to mention my wife is not a video gamer but she liked Mario Odyssey. Any game that I can buy that she might like so that she can understand why I buy so many games is worth it to me. :)
Don't give her the easy characters.
This game is actually harder than odyssey if you don't use the assist characters. In fact super Mario odyssey is the easiest Mario game ever if you use assist mode.
@@meriotroid Hell even without assist mode Odyssey is much easier than this game. I don't recommend NSMBU for 60€ though, get tropical freeze instead.

I'm a new Switch/Nintendo owner, and I can't help but see so much negativity on switch game videos and reddit posts. Is the Nintendo fanbase just obnoxious and snobby? I've never played a SMB game and thought this would be a perfect type of game for my girlfriend and I. But I got so many reddit replies saying this game isn't worth it and to go play Donkey Kong or Kirby. But THEN people shit on Kirby for being easy. I ignored people complaining about Mario Ace Tennis and bought it. I play that daily now. I want to buy Super Mario Party, but I still don't understand if people bitching about 4 boards is really that game breaking or if people are just picky. I don't know what information is valid anymore. I understand the Nintendo tax, and I don't like that an old game without much improvement is being priced as a AAA title. But being told to wait for a price drop that will never happen isn't helping me. If it's going to be a fun experience for my girlfriend and I, then I don't really care about the price. It's just frustrating seeing people tear a game down if it isn't exactly what they want it to be.
If this will be your first SMB game and you want something to play with your girl, then you'll both probably have a blast with this. The criticism this game is getting is valid, but doesn't apply as much to your situation. As a Mario game on Switch, I'd say most people would rate Odyssey much higher, but if you're looking for local multiplayer, you'll have a good time with NSMBU Deluxe.

I still hope we’ll get a new entry in the New Super Mario Bros. series with a new art style, 2.5D levels with highly detailed backgrounds and depth like the new Donkey Kong Country series and some new gameplay mechanics. That would make the ‘New’ part in the title meaningful again

I've played NSMB on DS but sold it eventually, also played NSMB Wii but eventually sold my entire Wii for some reason so buying this to make up my mistake, because I especially like 2D Mario games. Something magical about them :)

I'm getting this game purely for the nostalgia of inviting my friends inside from the bus stop in 4th grade to play new mario bros Wii every day after school, it was so much fun. I'm 18 now but having this to play with my brother will be a huge nostalgia trip for me
Same for me, I totally agree. I am 17 and I always plaid it with my nephews. Always so much fun. Kinda sad those times are over.

I love how people complain about Mario having too many clone characters yet they want Bowsette (who's a clone of Peach) to be canon. Totally not hypocrisy
They should make a 2D Mario game with a handrawn artstyle , with different mechanics but with no gimmicks and bowser should not be the villain it should be bowser jr . Many people would think it’s really different and would buy it.
I don't think the artstyle needs a change. Just give the characters and backgrounds more detail.

Well I think you missed my point. They said more bad than good, but still have it an 8, which is as high score. So the score and comments don’t equal out.

As a game it's really good. There's just not enough new stuff for a port, which brought the score down, I'm guessing.
It's not really profitable to take shots against Nintendo. On top of that the review score system is kinda broken to a point where almost everything gets a high score.

They didn't really get so so much money when it was on the wii u because it didn't sell so well, so I think what they did is just what it is supposed to be 😄. They shall make a very big attack in video games after they returned, so they won't ever lose again! I see what they did is superb!

I'm more ok with it because it has Luigi u packaged in it. I know that was the case for the wii u version, but when I bought it that wasn't the case :/

7 years already?? And yet... despite at least starting most Mario games released since then, I've never gotten around to playing this one... though it is somewhere on my To-Play list...for the Wii U. Mostly because it's modded and I can easily install anything onto it I wish, but alas...IDK, it's kind of weird to play a 7 year old game without any major additions on the Switch, when the original seemed fine as it was. I think we're all thankful for the memes this game has already delivered on though...if you, erm...know what I mean.

Weird to look at that 8/10 score at the end. Because I totally agree, the game is that good, but also... not for 60 bucks worth of good in 2019? Idunno. So weird. Play it if you havent already. And get those sweet sweet 600 gold points in the eshop
Really good jop with this review but I defer on something, the art part. For me this kind of art is the true essence of super Mario games colorful magical and simplistic. If you compare the trajectory of art style in smash games at first they try to go the realistic textures and shadows later and for the best they stick whit the colorful and simple just look at Mario for example. Once again thanks a lot for this review and keep been awesome.

I prefer this game by a smidge. I genuinely prefer the Mario style, although I prefer tropical freeze over the rest of the nsmb games for certain. Even tho I enjoy them all.
Like many others, I never had a Wii U so I'm definitely getting this game! Loving all these deluxe ports.

Well you get two games in one with some new features as well so yeah it would be nice if it were like 40 instead but I don’t mind paying 60 just because it shows Nintendo you actually like their games and don’t just want cheap steals from them

I am a big fan of 2D Mario, but I never got to play this one. The Wii U was just too expensive and didn't look too appealing. It just looked like the Wii but with a tablet added to it. Plus, New Super Mario Bros. 2, a similar game, released on the 3DS around the same time. So naturally, I skipped this one. But now years later, it feels AWESOME to finally play this game. Let me tell you, it's worth $60. You are getting two games for the price of one, aren't ya? ;P
I have a question: If I want to play four-player local multiplayer, does one player always have to play as an ‘easy’ character (such as Nabbit or Toadette), or is blue toad available for multiplayer still?
Blue toad is completely omitted. Someone (or two) is stuck with the easier characters.

All I want ported on the Switch is Super Mario 3D Land, I don’t mind World cause I haven’t got that on my Wii U, but I love Super Mario 3D Land on 3DS and I don’t mind playing a port of that on Switch for 100+ hours

I wanted New Super Mario Bros. 3 rather then a full on port.
I actually really like these ports. I didn’t have a Wii u but it had so many good games I’d love to now play on switch so I think that’s enough, I don’t think they need to add loads of new content for it to do well.
That being said the only issue I have is the price. Given how old the game is and that it’s a port so most of the work has already been done, you’d think they could be a bit cheaper.
I love the nsmb series. I play coop with my sisters and it’s good sibling bonding. I don’t think I’m going to spend $60 just to replay this game. If they added new worlds, that would be a different story but it’s literally the same game with peachette

Nintendo games in the 80s were notoriously hard. I can't believe they felt they needed to add easier characters, one of which CANT TAKE DAMAGE, and an option to have the game PLAY ITSELF FOR YOU. Jesus Christ. I don't even want to hear that it's for "younger gamers" who want to play because I was playing classic Nes games when I was like 4 or 5 years old and I had no problem "getting gud." Kids are just too babied these days.
Whats the problem? It's just to make it more accessible. You don't have to use them. I only use super guide when I'm hopelessly stuck. This way if there is a level somebody can't beat, they can still play the rest of the game.

Its to make it more accessible for a lot of people, handicapped, small children, Noobs everyone. You don't need to use it if you don't want to.

As I said earlier, back in the day us 5 year olds had just just suck it up and learn how to get good and I think that this taught us better skills than having the game just made easier for us. some of the best games I've played in 29 years of gaming have been EASY as hell, but had great stories, great soundtracks, great compositions, great exploration, great replay value
sure challenge helps, and it can increase a games quality
but it is NOT the single most important aspects
I've played hundreds of games, and to be quite frank ? if I made a 100 top games list...only 10% of them would be from the 80s, about 30% from the 90s, and 50-60% from the 2000s & 2010s. not every game is a "basic, easy cake-walk FPS title" there are alot of great games, JUST gotta dig beneath the surface
and no offense to those older games with limited color palletes, no online functionality, and limited d-pad controls
but....id MUCH rather play NSMBU then SUper mario World (and yes I played those classics, back when they were new)

Ori and the Blind Forest wasn't very hard, but it was really really really good (something that COULD have never been done 20-25-30 years ago)
Hollow Knight is moody, cute, atmospheric, challenging, fluid, and fun ALL wrapped into 1 - 100+ hour package (easily if you want to do 112% completion) and you wanan talk CHALLENGING ? Path of Pain ? shiiiiiit.
I can name dozens of games from todays era that is more atmospheric, eerie, challenging ...

i buy it later its the same as the wii u so yeah i never played the wii u version they did it also on the game boy color (super mario bros. deluxe. 1. super mario bros. 1, plus super mario bros. the lost levels (as the super player world)
I really wanna play as Toadette, but it seems there isn't much to double dip for. I'll wait for a discount; if I really get an itch to play the game, I can play my copy of the Wii U version in the meantime.

This game is still worth it in my opinion. Im getting it next month as i have never played mario on this version. The last i played was 64. Dont go on me on that maker. I dont like playing custom made. I rather have a polished and complete one. Thats just me. My opinion. If you disagree, so be it. Its my money, my experience.

To be honest i like playing super mario games as a kid. I enjoyed Odessy, but then again i did kinda notice that the price of any Switch game doesn't go down even by 1 cent after a couple of years.... unlike ps4 games they really become low price after some years. I guess i will try and see if the price is worth it (50% reason) + i did like the gameplay mechanics & aside from the fact that I did not have any nintendo console after the gameboy color(i was a playstation gamer since 2000)
Don't buy it it's not worth it there are much better games worth the same like Breath Of The Wild, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Kirby Star Allies, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Smash Bros Ultimate, etc.
I think the game is totally worth it. It has a huge map with some very unique levels, but thats not it. Don't forget about the boost rush, challenges, coin battle, new super luigi u so after getting bored of the story mode you can just do the challenges. The game can be annoying tho. You can get stuck on a level and rage for so much that you just give up and not play for a week.
They should have put more content into the game. They would have kept blue toad and add new characters like Daisy. I never owned the Wi U so, it looks fairly interesting. But I wished that they would have put a little bit more work in to making it as “deluxe” as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Mr. Orange in New Luigi U, Mario isn’t anywhere, you use Luigis unique controls like in Mario 2(NES) which is its high jump, also the timer is set to 100 levels(unless you play as the stupid easy mode Toadette) which makes short but a bit difficult levels
Try it out, it’s better than Mario U
Now if it came bundled with 3D World I would def buy, but i’ve been buying this game since the DS so i’ll pass. Not worth $60.
I’m personally in the camp that really likes like New Super Mario Bros, which I don’t think it deserves the hate it gets and will be buying it as someone who didn’t experience it on the Wii U.

I have already have this game for my Wii U. And I had really wanted to get it for my Switch. Mainly because of Toadette and that it is more portable. And I can play that game any where I want to play it. But thanks to some guy from another you tube Nintendo channel. Was telling me in his own way of how much of an idiot I am to want to get the game again. So that really put me off of wanting to get that game now. And another reason I wanted that game. Was to hopefully make up for another horrible lousy birthday I had last Friday.:(

the first minutes where quite hard to understand for me because I'm not a native English speaker and therefor have some problems with this professional review English, other than that it was a good video.
I have to say I am disappointed there is no Blue Toad. Now there is only 3 normal characters 1 easy character and one really easy character. This means if 4 people play together someone will have to play an easy character. More characters is a good thing not a bad thing.
I still wish Peachette did not exist. I think they should've simply made the crown power up give Toadette the same dress and abilities. No need to turn her into some weird-ass clone of Peach. Sucks that in a 4-player game, someone will always have to play on easy mode. Not sure why they removed the Blue Toad (RIP)

Should I get this or Donkey Kong Tropical freeze? Never played either on the previous systems. Mostly for single player but also for 2 player co-op
NikMetalEx if you like challenging platformers then defines Donkey Kong, the game is quite hard, sometimes even frustrating. If you want something easier and more accessible then pick New Super Mario Bros

I hear a lot of people give the Wii U ports the same comment: "It's great if you didn't get a chance to play it on the Wii U." But for someone who owned a Wii U and a decent amount of games on it I don't see how adding a deluxe to the end and adding 1 new character to replace another is a good idea. To me Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey and Smash (and... well... Arms) are the only new first party Games on the switch. Hardcore Splatoon Fans (like your self Alex) could probably argue that Splatoon 2 is 'new' as well seeing how it has heaps of new content as well as the Octopath Expansion (in which I could probably agree with to some extent) But take MarioKart for example. Ever since the SNES There has been a brand new Mario kart of
every console (and handheld as well) I COULD list them all But you eventually come to Mariokart 8 and then Mariokart 8 Deluxe. It seems to me that 8 deluxe is this big scar on the history of Mariokart being the fist Mario kart that isn't well.... New! I'm not seeing these ports as a good idea I'm more seeing them as Lazy work from Nintendo. I do hope that they will step up their "game" with... New Games in 2019 like Yoshi's Crafted world, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Animal crossing.

@@psycorboctobre1440 yeah. I have limited time for gaming now. So I Waiting out for a nice platformer, hopefully something entirely new (not a porteluxe), given a choice.
Tropical Freeze is definitely worth buying. Another great platformer with tons of content is Shovel Knight Treasure Trove. If you like pixel art, it’s an amazing game, with soon to be four different campaigns and one of my favourite platformers. Rayman Legends is also fun, and if we’re talking platformer/metroidvania, I’d recommend Monster Boy, Steamworld Dig 2 and Dust: An Elysian Tail, the latter being probably my personal favourite game.
Don't forget there are some awesome, cheap indie platformers on the Switch. Celeste is a must-play, and The Messenger is outstanding.

Surely a quick menu popup asking if you want to try again or return to the world map would allow total flexibility.
I didn't have a Wii U, so this is a must cop for me.
Nintendo in January: Here, have a tweaked port of an old game at full price. Oh and have a couple of NES games, oh and we decided not to have a Direct this January, we've been sitting on our hands since the game awards.
One last thing for Nintendo in January 2019: Ok, we had ENOUGH! The Super Crown ONLY works for Toadette!
The challenge mode in the game is so addicting

My childhood game was New Super Mario Bros Wii but i didnt get super far. I have SMM2 but i tire of it and i long for an official 2D platformer. Is it worth it under my conditions? Or should I just get Rayman Legends definitive edition.
Also, Ive played the original games. Ive only beaten Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros, but I got the the final level in Mario 2.
Also, I can play Rayman legends at my friends house who I go to all the time (yes even in quarantine) but neither of us have any Mario 2D platformer?
Also I dont have a WiiU and wont get one for a LOOOOOOONG time. I love the Luigi physics, and I always love a good challenge.
Honestly at this point I think theres no question that Id like this. But im getting thise because i got a game i thought id really like for christmas but i didnt like it enough to keep playing... im just cautious not to waste 60 more dollars.
I havent played all of the Wii u versions of the game so this a good investment for me
