  • I can't recall seeing anyone talking about cleaning this sensor but my findings indicate that it is needed. If you don't know where it is or how to do it, this is for you. Finally back running.

As usual, your observations and tips were of good practical use. I just started TiO2 engraving on some experimental discarded tiles. The D1Pro would shut down EVERY TIME after a few seconds. Your painters tape on the IR sensor idea was the trick. I was back in the shop after half of your video…(I’ll finish it now). I made a bunch of dots with a hole punch set putting the painters tape on an old plastic phone card and they are on the laser bench for use when necessary. That shutdown sensor is a PITA! But like you said it is something probably made necessary to be on at all times by the lawyers. I’m 77 and have worked with my hands and brain all of my life and still have all of my fingers…..so I won’t be leaving the tape on when I’m cutting/engraving flammable materials. I’m going to check out your channel regularly for good tips. Thanks bro.

Hello. Just got the 20 watt d1 pro last week. Your videos are awesome. Already bought your jig kit and honeycomb holder files. About the flame sensor. My flame sensor was being set off by bright sunlight when I tried using it outside. I have limited work space so I tried using my d1 pro outside on my patio during the bright sunlight. The flame detector kept going off. I moved the laser into my shed and it worked flawlessly. Moved it back outside and again the flame detector when off immediately when I started a job. Just to convince myself the bright sunlight was setting off the sensor, I took a large piece of cardboard, held it just above the laser to shade it and started the job again. No flame sensor. For the last week, I have been using it inside my shed without issue.
I've noticed with lightburn, if you look at the console tab, it shows why the alarm is going off. Limit or Flame. In the last week, I've set both off.

Love the video about the flame sensor. I have no problem when I'm using XCS with the sensor but when I use Lightburn that's where I get the flame alert, not all the time though. I will clean the sensor and hopefully that will fix the problem with Lightburn. I thought it was a Lightburn issue we'll see. Thanks

That makes sense. If your lens is dirty then IR (infrared) sensor is dirty too. I tested mine for the noise I was getting. The timing bar is bent but. It’s not causing the noise. It appears when the unit homes the firmware uses a different stepper motor PWM setting. Not sure, I know how the stepper motor control works. It sound like the dwell between pulses is longer during homing. Under normal conditions there is no noise and the laser works great. Regardless I’m glad you were able to figure out the issue with the sensor. Were you in the sun? Haze on the sensor may have diffused the light from the laser or the sun resulting in a false trigger. I agree with you, there should be a software switch for the sensor. Otherwise, it would be easy to put a switch in line with the sensor. Or, possibly a rubber cap on the sensor to resume monitored operation. Thanks for all you do.

    Hi,
You can turn the sensor off in creative space by turning the "Do not show again" for the flame sensor. That's what I did on mine and haven't had any problem since. I will try to clean the sensor as you mention.
    Thanks

With a 40W D1 Pro, I discovered that the bright yellow paper under one of my jigs may have been reflecting some direct sunlight back into the sensor. I removed the paper and pulled down a blind and got no further Fire Alarms!

There is a shut off switch in the creative space software. When you start up the creative space look at the top right corner, connect to the machine (Must do this first) then where the gear wheel is and click on it. then on that page click on the working parameters and right in the middle of the page you can choose high, low or do not show this again and that one shuts it off. Hopefully that helps you

My method of tensioning the belts is to "tune" them... Like a guitar string. As long as they are the same length... when you pluck them, if the two belts sound the same then they are identically tensioned.

You can also slide a piece of heat shrink tubing over the sensor if working outside. Don't leave it unattended if you do this however. This seamed to fix that stupid alarm for me. Also, If the machine does stop in the middle of a job you can start off where it left off (or really close) if you have the pro. Using Lightburn.

I see the main wire, but there is also a skinnier black wire connected into the white piece that hangs on the side of the box, Can you tell me if that is something that is needed for an attachment piece or if Im missing something that is vital because I never got a smaller cable like that with mine.
