This is proof that you don't need grand sweeping epic pieces written for a 100+ instrument orchestra to move the spirit. Sometimes elegance does it too. And sometimes it does it better.
Well said! I first heard this piece in the BBC documentary Auschwitz: The Nazis and the final solution . In that context ( laid over the imagery of Auschwitz and it's victims ) the music is dripping with heartache and a strange beauty. It is an incredible piece of music that would make the classical masters envious.
I played this at my grandma's funeral 10 years ago. The other day my wife and I were watching the good place series finale and the song came on. My wife didn't know me back then so she was confused when I broke down crying.
I love this so much that I'm playing this clip about every second day. It's so beautiful it almost makes me cry. Possibly the most beautiful music I've ever heard. I can't believe it's 9 mins long - it only feels like about 3 mins!
Vielen herzlich LDank, lieber Levi 💞
This is the music of the soul. Each note resonating in its fullest sense. One can't do complete justice by describing into words the dormant feelings/sensations awaken deep within. Absolutely amazing Maestro Arvo.
This is Good , but Jurgen's Version of this piece is beyond Words , the tempo here is abit fast , while in Jugren's it's perfectly balanced . Check if you may : ua-cam.com/video/e8isthB3eRM/v-deo.html Salute .
I think that the Cello works so well with the register the notes played on the piano. Only a Cello can "weep" like this. I'm always a bit lost for words when listening to this piece.
Pretty impressive that they played this from memory. I played this with a cello player and they lost focus and got a little lost in the music as it was. :)
SYTYCD brought me here. Jasmine amd Fikshun's contemporay dance choreographed by Travis Wall. such a beautiful piece i had to find a full version of the musical composition, Hauntingly beautiful!
yes a wonderful piece, the depth of the cello offsets the timbre of the piano, my favourite at the end of the day, (the piano does seem to be in a hurry in the middle)
Hello, thank you for your comment! The tempo change in the middle was an deliberate option that was discussed before the recording. As a mirrored mirror reflects infinitely smaller reflections.. :)
Grata surpresa!!! Excelentes instrumentistas! Parabéns! Eternamente grato!!
beutifull way to played, it is amazings song, i used when i practice thai chi because it help to concentration and keep the mind calm, thanks best regards
My only criticism is the use of vibrato in the cello part, and only because Pärt wrote in his tintinnabulum style (bell-like style) across all his works, especially this one. But I don't give a dash about Pärt's principles right now because this is beautiful. Such control in both the piano and cello parts…
Could you please explain me what you meant with "the use of vibrato in the cello part"? As a violinist I'm really interested in comprehending how this music should be played according to its composer :) Also, isn't the "bell-like style" referred to the piano? At least this is what I found on wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tintinnabuli

This is arguably the thousandth time for me and I'm in tears
I played this at my grandma's funeral 10 years ago. The other day my wife and I were watching the good place series finale and the song came on. My wife didn't know me back then so she was confused when I broke down crying.
The piano and cello dancing togeather in perfect simplicity
If this doesn't bring tears to your eyes you must have a brick for a heart ❗
Beautiful. I see that this performance was recorded years ago-I hope you’ve both gone on to have great careers! Bravi!
this is the most beautiful song i have heard in the last years...
Far and away the most elegant version, just as it was intended to be performed. Perfecto!
This performance makes me calm..

Amazing
the best version ever!
It is simply lovely to watch such skillful camera work. It adds so much elegance to the music. Lovely.

Wit, calm moments [crying]
Pause, 10 minutes ... music distilled from the tears of the soul ...
Nicola Benedetti plays an equally exquisite piece on violin - youtube
Muy linda interpretación.Agradecido de escucharla.

Begins at 00:28.

This is by far the best version of this that I have ever heard. Simply wonderful!
Yes 100% OK

Salute .
It’s too fast, although well played. I prefer this version: ua-cam.com/video/FZe3mXlnfNc/v-deo.html
@@enochbcn2009 This or one by Nicola Benedetti. I too prefer the slower versions
Marvelous

Muy bella interpretación!
Einfach schön ❤
Breath taking.
Un merveilleux pianiste et une superbe musique!!!!
Maravilhosíssimo! Bravo!

Beautiful playing both. 👏👏
Beginning tempo was great.
Agreed. Ending tempo was almost 20 clicks faster!
Mais uma belíssima interpretação! Do Brasil, mais uma gratificação.
Hello, thank you for your comment! The tempo change in the middle was an deliberate option that was discussed before the recording. As a mirrored mirror reflects infinitely smaller reflections.. :)
I agree, it is a bit too fast as if it has been made to fit something specific, perhaps a film score, it needs to be slower, more contemplative.
Just beautiful.
SO Beautiful.
"como la gota mas pura caída del cielo..."
Belíssima! composição e interpretação. .
BRAVO! BRAVÍSSIMO!
Well, this is rather good
Grata surpresa!!! Excelentes instrumentistas! Parabéns! Eternamente grato!!
Beautiful renditions.
I found the intentional interpretative increase in tempo to be very interesting.
Very good.
I didn't. I prefer how the composer intended the piece to sound.
Doesn’t come across as intentional imo
Magnífico! Bravo!
Best version I ever heard.
Likewise for me
Beautiful!!
Very very beautiful
beautiful
adoro!
So beautiful thanks xxx
Música e interpretação maravilhosas
This is so beautiful. Thank you
beutifull way to played, it is amazings song, i used when i practice thai chi because it help to concentration and keep the mind calm, thanks best regards

una realidad que me fascina, MAGNIFICA!

the bell like part is supposed to be the piano not the cello, so that makes no sense, the vibrato is fine
Excelente interpretação.
sensacional essa musca
Espetacular
Amazing!
Hermoso....gracias por compartirlo...
Love.
simplemente hermoso
Great interpretation.
ideal para leer por la noche.... gracias
Excellence.
Muito bom! Viciante ;)
Que belleza!
This is the only version I've heard where the tempo increases. Compare 2:03 to 8:15.
Yes, I agree.
