  • A buoyant Jeremy Corbyn declared victory as it became clear that the UK was heading towards a hung parliament on election night. The Labour leader said the party had 'changed the face of British politics' after making significant gains across the country.

    So basically half of Jeremy's party screw him over and can't be bothered to apologise? This is the one moment where grilling someone over an interview seems justified. If he had proper support maybe things could have been different but of course not.

      Corbyn still got a higher share of the vote in 2019 than Kinnock, Ed Milliband (both elections) and Major (tories in 1997). Was less than just 4% off Cameron got in 2015, and not far off Blair in 2005. In 2017 he achieved the highest share of the vote of a labour leader apart ftom Blair since the 1970's, and still got a higher share of the vote than most labour leaders since the 1970's and even Hague, Duncan Smith and Major (1997) of the tories. 203 seats from Corbyn in 2019 isn't even the lowest number of seats the losing leader of the main 2 parties have achieved, Major (1997) and Duncan Smith from the tories did worse than Corbyn.
      How anybody can defend Johnson's actions ever since replaced May as PM of doing everything possible to null and void the 2017 because he believss the makeup of the house obstructed brexit due to Corbyn lying on university student loans and tuition fees and campaigned on everything but brexit even though there is no evidence he lied at all on student loans and tuition fees and he definitely campaigned strongly on brexit, the electoral commission confirmed he did..
      The talks with the EU to come to withdrawal agreement since invoking article 50 in 2017 and parliamentary scrutiny was voted twice by the electorate in June's 2016 and 2017. Corbyn had nothing to do with Gina Millar winning the right for parlientary scrutiny on brexit. None of this can all be in effect nulled and voided.

      May was the most useless excuse for a leader we have ever had. Under that scenario it does not take a lot to inspire a bunch of useful idiots. Corbyn temporarily achieved that and hats of to a great sleight of hand. Thankfully the wheels fell of in style two years later.

      The 2017 election turned out that way because Theresa May lost, not because Corbyn won. She was weak so it camouflaged Corbyn's weakness. Two years later mighty Boris suddenly made the Labour leader appear little and lost after along period of thinking he could defeat May at another election.

      Corbyn campaigned strongly on Brexit in 2017 general election. Why did Corbyn not get less than 150 seats in the midst of a tory landslde then?
      Corbyn did not cheat in the 2017 general election to obstruct brexit. The makeup of the house June 2017 to December 2019 was based on the majority of electorste who voted for MP's who were againat slipping out of the EU without even a withdrawal agreement or trade deal with the EU.

    I have been a Labour voter all my life, and voted Labour this week, but please dont be silly. Labour only gained 30 seats and won the same number of seats on 40% of the vote that Gordon Brown won in 2010 on 28% -largely because Corbyn did not campaign in enough marginal seats but spent too much time basking in adulation in safe seats. Also Labour would have done much better under a more electable leader and still got the youth vote by promising to abolish tuition fees. Theresa May also gave him a lot of help with her disastrous campaign. Corbyn lost the election, it was not a victory, and the Tories will probably have a new leader and a better campaign next time.

    • @dvidclapperton
      @dvidclapperton 4 роки тому

      He did not actually claim he would wipe out all historic student debt from 2004. Just that he would do everything possible to reduce the student loan interest rate plus bring the £9000 back to £3000 begore the tories increased it from £3000 to £9000, plus a longer repayment peruod to make monthly repayments affordable.
      The tories in the post elevtion media ooh-haa claimed that by Corbyn not saying he wouldn't wipe out all gistoric student debt, counted as being the exact same thing him saying he would wipe out all historic student debt. Nobody in 2017 was promised all their money back by Corbyn, just some of it back by lowering the interest rates and a longer repayment period, only new students would be back to the pre 2004 position if he got elected. Not saying No is not the same thing as saying Yes, only when it suits the tories in attempt to permanently damage the labour leader if they missed out on a majority.
      Corbyn campaigned strongly on brexit too. So he definitely did not commit electoral fraud in the 2017 general election, so the makeup of the house that obstructsd brexit more accurately No Withdrawal Agreement and No FTA with the EU was down to the electorate, not down to any lies from Corbyn.

    I think the confusion for some people is the difference between British and American politics. This was quite a big success for Corbyn because he managed to take a lot of seats away from May's party when her intention was to increase her majority. She lost it and is now in a weaker position because she misjudged just how unhappy the British public are with her party.

    Another thing that pisses me off about these people. In WW2, who started the air war? The air war that ended in severely damaged cities across Europe. It was American policy to bomb strictly militarily significant targets, like transportation nodes and supply depots, factories, etc. It was never the policy of Americans to saturation bombs cities. That whole fiasco started well before we even entered the War, and the policy was mainly pushed by the British government, probably out of retaliation for British cities being bombed. American policy for Europe was always the same, and we even told GB and Germany in 1939, not to bomb civilian areas, no matter what. But I guess that one's our fault too, huh?

    I hate it when people say why somebody won. It's ok ish with the Scottish conservative vote, because it's obviously anti independence but the labour vote was a huge array of reasons.

      Really he's restored pride in Labour voters. Not sure if he'll ever be PM but maybe he's laid the foundations and his successor will be.
      But yeah, it's stupid how people are calling this election a "victory" for Labour. It's not Corbyn who is PM.

      He's never claimed he won the 2017 general election.
      He certainly did not cheat his to a respectable seat total in 2017. He never committed electoral fraud in 2017. Corbyn definitely campaigned strongly on brexit and achieved a strong showing despite all those who claimed he would get a lower share of the vote than Foot did in 1983 and would end up below 150 seats. Both those forecasts were proven to be wildly inaccurate.

      He gained seat and she lost seats. Troies also lost their morjority and their leader is weaker than ever to the point where she might have to resign, and if she does it could very likely lead to another election this year. *That very much is a huge victory for labour*

    How did this go so wrong for Corbyn?

    • @dvidclapperton
      @dvidclapperton 4 роки тому

      The tories after the 2017 election accused Corbyn of lying on tuition fees and student loans because they claimed in the runup to the general election the tories lost their majority that stopped No Deal, Corbyn did not say that all students since 2004 would not get all their repayments back and all their syudent debt completely written off, so that in tory world means the same as him said that he would. Corbyn never said he wouldn't, but never said he would either. So lie umproven by the tories, but it was enough to convince many enough that Corbyn did lie about it, and Corbyn was never a threat ever since. It was a deliberate act to permanently damage Corbyn to hand the tories an advantage that would be impossible to relinquish.
      Are we now at the stage where the labour leader has to say what labour are not going to do (not just what labour are going to do) or else get the claim from the tories that labour are going to do it i.e. something very damaging, even though labour were not going to do what the tories claiming they are going to do anyway.
      Not saying No is not exactly the same thing as saying Yes.

    Sorry I'm not buying this. I voted labour and I'm actually pretty down with the result. Corbyn's waltzing through London, smiling, shaking hands and acting as if he is about to be crowned. He lost by 58 seats. What is there to rejoice? That he's a bit less crap than people originally thought he was? That they lost a two horse race but not by the massive margin that was expected? Ffs it's so bloody patronizing to be expected to think that this was a great result.Labour had the best chance in 7 years of over-turning a Tory government. The Conservative manifesto was a mess, their campaign inept and May came across poorly and yet Labour still lost. The party led by him has no chance of attracting enough Tory voters to gain a majority and now we are faced with the likelihood of 5 more years of muddled Tory rule. If he leads labour into the next election they will lose again. When was the last time a losing party cheered on their leader like this? Are they living in a bubble? He lost by a similar margin as Gordon Brown and that was seen as a disaster for Labour yet he is walking around with his smug smile as if he has achieved something. He has had his chance, he should resign yet he seems happy enough that he can stay in opposition!Corbyn has spent his entire political life in opposition, including the years when Labour were in power, voting again and again against his own party. He is a protest politician that's all. Now as well as 5 more years of Tory Government we will have him on the opposition benches doing the only thing he knows again - protesting. It's absolutely infuriating.

      Rob Gilland Tory were going to win anyway because she called this election way tooo early. But Jeremy Corbyn changed the youth perspective about voting. If they carry on like this, labour can form a government in the next general election and it looks like it will be this year.

    • @saulmarlon
      @saulmarlon 7 років тому +6

      this also puts labour in a stronger position to go for the big win, the party is united behind him and ready to get the tories out, a hung parliament like this one could possibly result in another election happening later this year too meaning that corbyn now has the backing of most labour MPs

Please consider being g thankful that Jeremy is holding the vision. It may look odd, & yet ... it's really smart, because it can work. This is not the end , it is the beginning of the end of the public believing more money to the rich is a good thing. Corbyn is going to win. Mark my words.

      Jake the Tweenie Dear Jake: At least the Labour's manifiesto have a clear planning and express with impecable and pedagogic precision where the money will come from. in opposite, the conservative party is extremely obscure about the procedence of their possible budget. And with the experience of the political history of my country, normally the political groups that don't tell clearly their possible future plans, the cause is that something is going wrong
      in Chile we have seen the case of the Chicago economists that driven a lot of poor people to slums, inflated the peso, and contrary to the reports of some international media, a lot of people is suffering the consequences: an example can be found in the earnings/spending of Chilean people; the cost of living is almost the same like in your country, but with a 1/3 of your minimum wage.
      Greetings from Chile! I really hope your response.
