  • This lecture is the second and final for Chapter 6. Having introduced the Young-Laplace equation and reviewed the concept of curvature for spherical surfaces and interfaces, we next move to cylindrical surfaces and interfaces. Our discussions will include capillary rise and fall and development of the Lucas-Washburn equation. We will also examine the capillary bridge, and capillary adhesion and finish up with a discussion of real drop shapes and an introduction to the Brashforth and Adams treatment for dealing with the influence of gravity on meniscus curvature.
