I feel like our parents be passing that trauma onto us. Like there are girls that are confident in their hair because their parents instilled it in them. Like my momma still tell my sisters and I that we don’t need to be natural. I just ignore and stay instilled in my belief that natural is beautiful. I also instilled this in my little sisters. But I understand back then we didn’t have the resources to take care of our hair.

Im glad you instill that positivity in your little sisters! ❤️ its so important that we break this trauma passed down and encourage each other that we are worthy and valid regardless of how we wear our hair 🙏🏾

@@exisdoes yeah and I love your video. The fact you touch on how perms cause pcos is good. It makes sense why you see it in so many black women. It’s because the system made us feel like we needed perms. I think we should be mindful of that as well. I know there are many black women getting perms and relaxers. But I think we should think about the potential harm it can have on our health. We shouldn’t sacrifice our physical wellbeing for a look.

That's the thing: Proper haircare is so cultural and can only be passed person to person. There are definitely knowledge and experience hotspots. I grew up in Texas in a community with very few black people, there were hardly any black hairdressers let alone black hairdressers that were knowledgeable about proper haircare. But if there are knowledgeable people imparting that knowledge to their clients, they can pass it to their children. We rely so much on companies telling us what to out on our hair, and that changes a lot with the Internet but nothing is the same as knowing your own hair and havitn a professional impart real technique to actual families.

Maybe her hair doesn’t grow because it can’t breathe and is being suffocated underneath all those bad wigs.
