      Indeed. It's really like meditation, for both the raker and the onlooker. This is what zen monks do in their temple gardens in Japan.

    my opinion on your questions,
    1: i think that they have some kind of tool with a flat side used by dragging it along the gravel to make it smooth.
    2: they can walk on it without making shoe prints because the gravel is made of smaller sized rocks, and there is only a thin layer of them.
    Again these are just from my opinion.

    1. I make it smooth and completely flat with a soft broom.
    2. My Chinese shoes have no profile and are completely flat. With other shoes it would leave nasty imprints.

    Would it be somewhat painful to be bare foot? And also leave bad imprints?

    • @Kikiyayazengardens
      @Kikiyayazengardens  10 років тому +2

      Yes, it's a bit painful to walk on this type of gravel barefoot. It's not something I would do, nor my dog. But walking on glass splinters is more painful. No, this type of gravel is rather compact and doesn't react to pressure as sand does.

Instead of having a nice zen garden to work with, I'm going to go out into nature and the most random locations and try and make a unified zen garden...one of those I've planned to be a mud pit....messy

    In America, I was involved in a project to document the Zen Gardens of the American Ghettos. The project failed. We tried so hard. We, under armed guard, searched and searched. We could not find a Zen garden anywhere. We believe they must exist. We are sure of it. But we failed in our efforts to find them. We have not given up. We will search forever.
    Pantau... any advice on where or how to look would be greatly appreciated. We are thinking, lazy people, may be key, but, we don't know what to to do with this information.
