  • This second video tests the accuracy of the Ruger American in 7mm PRC. The test uses the only 2 factory loadings currently available. The 175gr Hornady Precision Hunter and the 180gr Hornady Match.
    The rifle is topped with an Arken Optics EP-5 6-25x56 scope with a 34mm tube.
    The 7mm PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) is a relatively new rifle cartridge developed by Hornady in 2022. It is a high-performance cartridge that is designed for long-range shooting and hunting. The cartridge boasts a high ballistic coefficient that ensures fast and accurate bullet flight, making it an excellent choice for long-range shooting. Additionally, the 7mm PRC has a flat trajectory and minimal wind drift, making it an ideal cartridge for long-range hunting.
    The Ruger American Rifle is a popular bolt-action rifle that is known for its reliability and accuracy. It is available in a variety of calibers, including the 7mm PRC. The rifle features a detachable box magazine, adjustable trigger, and a free-floating barrel that is cold hammer-forged for improved accuracy. The stock is made from durable synthetic material, and the rifle is designed to be lightweight and easy to carry in the field.
    The Arken Optics EP-5 rifle scope is a high-end scope designed for long-range shooting. It features a 6-25x magnification range and a 56mm objective lens. The scope has a first focal plane reticle, which means that the reticle stays proportional to the target regardless of the magnification level. The scope also has zero stop elevation and windage turrets that make it easy to make precise adjustments to the point of aim. It is a durable and reliable scope that is designed to perform even in extreme weather conditions.

    In a hunting rifle there’s no need to worry about any more than 3 shot group, and really the only shot that really matters is a cold bore shot.

    Late to the party, but keep shooting that rifle. I have a ruger american predator in 308 and it has probabaly 250 shots through it, and it will shoot 3/4" groups consistently, even better if I could do my part. It just shoots better and better every time I squeeze the trigger. Also, I used to shoot off a sled, and then tried off of bags and then a bipod with a squeeze bag and in transformed how good of a shooter I was. Not saying that the sled is wrong, just that you might be a better shooter if you explore other ways to shoot. Also, 3 or 4 shot groups is all you really need out of a hunting rifle. Or let the barrel really cool after your 3rd. Just my 2 cents from a fellow ruger rifle shooter.

    I saw Adam's video. Unfortunately, many people will part with a rifle or deem it junk too soon. For whatever reason, some rifles, even ones with aftermarket handlapped barrels, can shoot like crap until they get 50-60 bullets through them. I don't know if he got that far with his or not. That's what happened to me, then, the rifle literally turned on a dime with the same ammo and shot 1/4 MOA with the Hornady match ammo and 1/2 MOA with the ELD-X ammo in my 7PRC. My rule on shooting hunting rifles is 2 minutes between shots minimum. Many throats where the lands start get firecracked in short order when you don't let the barrel cool or if you get it too hot and then it will never shoot as well as it likely could have. Your scope looks perfect this time. Every time you finish shooting make sure all scope rings/bases are tight still. Also, eject the shell immediately after each shot, otherwise you're maintaining the heat. After each group I shoot, I prop the rifle upright so heat escapes the muzzle. Barrels cool quicker

    You cant aim the rifle in the sled by twisting the front yoke. It will tend to shoot away from the pressure. Same w the hard butt of the sled. I completely agree with the comment about using bags that rests the front on the bag and allows you to move the rear bag to aim.

    • @cherrycitygunsandammo1011
      @cherrycitygunsandammo1011  Рік тому +1

      That’s where you are wrong. I do it often and can show plenty of targets from other rifles as small as .33 moa. There’s equal pressure on both sides. Just because someone does something different than you doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. I’m willing to bet that you’ve never done it.

  • @Ben-d9n1r
    @Ben-d9n1r Рік тому +4

    I had the exact same experience with the 175 hunters vs the 180 match. The 175s are too hot (possibly lightly compressed even). Just from the cave man test, if you shake the 175s there is no air space (its packed tight). The 180s do have a little extra space in there. Not sure if hornady used the same powder for both loads, but .35moa from the 180s at 2,915fps was way better than 1.1moa from the 175s at 2,993fps.

    I have a 24" barreled 7PRC. Using H1000 and the 160CX i could get up to 3200fps. H4831sc was a little slower.
    I think you'll shoot better groups if you get a more efficient muzzle brake. Recoil management on that light of a rifle is important.
    Also use a stop watch between every shot. 1 to 2 minutes between shots depending on air temperature will keep the barrel a consistent temperature.
    And you also state you want hunting accuracy. 5 shot strings in a hunting situation is highly unlikely. I feel a better test is to shoot 5 cold bore shots at the same target 5 days in a row. You can shoot a 2nd shot at a separate target. Analyze those groups for hunting accuracy.

    A rifle doesn't necessarily shoot either "hunting" or "match" ammo well. You can buy cheap soft points and with some effort work up a handload that shoots sub ½ MOA consistently. You can also buy the most expensive match bullet and find a loading that barely shoots 1½ MOA. A load must work well with the harmonics of the barrel in that specific rifle. That means if you're using factory ammo you might get lucky and the first ammo you try shoots amazing or you might have to try a couple different types to find one that works well in your rifle.

  • @PaulHenry-x8l
    @PaulHenry-x8l Рік тому +1

    I've had a few rifles over the years. Although some have been great out of the box, I typically have found that few of them are consistently accurate with factory ammo until they have had around 50 rounds through them. Maybe it's Break-in, maybe it's the alloy of the barrel, maybe it's me??? I just find things suddenly get better after 50-60 plus rounds through them.

    If you’re using for a hunting rifle don’t worry about 5 shot groups. More about cold bore shot and maybe a follow up. Shoot a 3 shot group on multiple days and see what you have. JMO. And stop using the sled.

    People need to realize this is not a high dollar rifle with a lapped match barrel. These things takes boxes of ammo through the tube to get that barrel to shoot. I have a 6.5 creed in an American that through about 5 or 6 boxes of ammo I hated. After that it tightened up. Then I got ride of that shit stock and adjusted the trigger. Now there is little I can’t shoot out of that rifle at right around .5 minute groups. Moral is, keep feeding these guns and they will shoot.

    With game, your first shot is all that matters. I'm an amazing shot on paper but in the timber with a deer in my glass I've made some bad shots so practice standing , resting against a tree, or sitting and shooting off your knee for hunting practice. Just my opinion. Great video.

  • @ronws2007

    For the most part, a three shot group is most important to hunters. We are just about never shooting more than three rounds.
    I am getting results similar to yours with my 7 PRC Precision Hunter 175 gr 175 ELD-X.
    Maybe years down the road I may get into PRS and I might change to 180 gr ELD-M. If that doesn't work, I would stay with the 175 gr ELD-X.
    Here is what is funny. Adam is a big fan of Ruger American. But he bought a Mossberg Patriot Predator that actually did better. But the religious objection to Mossberg rifles is so strong that even the best results must be denied.
    So, I will add my experience to the mix. Mossberg Patriot Predator cerakote 7 mm PRC, .41 inch spread on a two-shot , .39 MOA.

    Groups aren’t too bad ….definitely reload that brass because $65 for 20rnds sucks ass 😂 I picked up midway blemished bullets for $33 per hundred 180g Eld (assuming they are ELD’s) you can search under factory second bullets & scroll thru the list ….I’m loading 66g of Reloder 26 & fed 215 primers & get sub moa groups . Took it out to 2k yds & it shoots better than factory but I do sort each bullet to ogive to eliminate as much variables as possible .

First please just load the magazine and don't try to be them other guys because by loading them one at a time you are moving the gun holder and by trying to catch the brass you are turning the gun. Most accurate will be not moving anything or very little movement.
