We clambered to the top of this beautiful hill in North Nibley to bring you this beautiful Irish song. This song has a special place with us as it's always one of our favourites to sing with friends and brings back many great memories of camaraderie and laughter.

On some of the earliest videos they did at the beach and stuff they got a crowd pretty damn quickly

I know it's old vid, but I MUST say... any other commenters understand how chorally impossible it is to stay singing together on rubato rhythms, and these guys aren't even LOOKING at each other??? This is a group with literal years singing together, they are THAT tight!! Mind-blowing!
The thing is, what you hear and what you see weren't recorded at the same time. The audio was probably recorded in a studio and overlaid with the video. Nevertheless, I completely agree with you that it sounds amazing and is massively impressive.
You guys are actually really underrated, my favourite band by far.

I've been a folkie for 50 years now and this is the best version of this song I've ever heard.

When I was at the port Townsend wooden boat festival I recognized some of the shanties sung because of you guys!
Can you guys please do Flowers of Bermuda? I love Stan Rogers and he was a really underrated singer/writer during his time but his name seems to have drifted off across the horizon since his death god rest his soul. Its one of my most favorite songs he did next to ones like the Mary Ellen Carter and I'd just love to hear your rendition of it. You're an amazing group of people and damn talented all of you. Keep it up guys.

It's a traditional Irish folk tune, so not quite a full sea shanty
Drop Kick Murphys got a good rendition
Reminds me of when i heard this in the film, Inside Llewyn Davis.

Luke Kelly's version is quite good, it's a real shame he is no longer with us.
The definitive version of this is sung by the Dubliners. Either Ronnie Drew or Luke Kelly, but I'm partial to Ronnie's "40 a day and gargling concrete" voice.
Strange hearing it without the Dublin slang, but still lovely!

Something about the way you sat and filmed this, the tone and the way you carry yourselves, it feels authentic. Like there's a real reason for you to be singing these words. That's what always gets me about you guys.

Loving this from Victoria, Australia. Some of our key historical sites are tied to our heritage as a penal colony for Britain's convicts. I used to sing this while I was locking up at the old Geelong Gaol, which is now a museum.
I first saw you on a weekend break to Bristol 5 or 6 years ago, and I fell in love there and then. Whenever I need a spiritual lift, or just to smile, I play something you sing. So special, all of you.
This has become one of my go-to comfort songs. Others have already said it, but the way your voices go together is some kind of alchemy, and it’s a balm for my soul. (Plus, I do have a fondness for your nature setting videos, makes me miss England so.)

i love the longest johns range of broadcastable emotion, they can go from the workers song, to scrooge, to this in under a month.

Loved the song! Beautiful harmonies! I have to say the left/right balance sounds weird when watching the video. It would be impossible to match but just audio, it is really nice.
