Excellent work as always, Ian 👍 👌. In relation to masking the sticker on the back, maybe low tack masking tape or artist's masking fluid would work. Air brush artists have a wee trick to make ordinary masking tape low tack, by gently sticking the tape to their cotton t- shirt first, then using it! Just a thought as may be worth trying in the future. 😉 Jim 🏴 ☺
Exceptional work sir , I hope Alan is not going to leave them in that cupboard because you won’t see all your hard work .bless you , I did a bit of investigation into these speakers and was amazed how much they are actually worth . Even a driver can fetch £800 plus , and as a whole you’re looking at £2000 plus for a pair of speakers . Assuming you can find any that look remotely as good a these ones . So yes it does make sense to spend the time on bringing these faded icons back to their former glory . Again spot on young man Best wishes and kind regards from an old hifi enthusiast . 😀👍👍👍
I was just looking for this video! I have vintage tannoy Lancaster with 12 inch in same type of enclosure, but my kitties scratched front grille fabric. I will try to replace Lancaster’s grille cloth. Thank you so much for your uploading this useful video!
Excellent work, they look great @tweaker man. Regarding the bass reflex port which is covered on one and not the other - The correct configuration for the 15" driver you have is to cover the port (ie infinite baffle). They are only uncovered (bass reflex) when you're using a 12" driver. Tannoy provided a sub-baffle to fit the 12". Where are you based? I have some smaller Chatsworth cabinets that could do with the same love and I'd be interested in a price.
Something very wrong here. These are obviously 2 different speakers. And this is probably why the port was covered on one cabinet. If it were me I would be selling the 12" and replace it with a matching 15". Just my 2cents worth.
Quite correct, The Lancaster enclosure was offered with either 12", or 15" drive units. In the case of the 12", the port was open, but in the 15" it was covered with the panel shown on the video.
I love the design of that driver, it's so uncommon to see something like that nowadays. Almost a shame it's hidden in that cabinet, because it would look great in an open baffle design.
Amazing work. Would you consider taking on restoring my tannoy corner York cabinets please? They are slightly bigger than the Lancasters. Grill cloths are intact but veneer is quite bad in places
@@Bkkiow can you send me photos of the speakers, I have a tweaker man facebook page, you can message me photos through it, so I can give you an idea of costings👍
@@tweakerman brilliant thank you. I don’t have a Facebook account, but I’ll probably be able to use a freind’s in the next couple of days. Or do you have an email that I could contact you through?
What do you recommend for the substitute for pale polish of Morrell? It is not available for international user. How about Liberon or black ebonizing finish of my Mylands ?

Thank you, Mr. tweaker man!
Dear tweaker man,
I would be very happy if you could tell me where to buy the original grill cloth for Lancaster.

Hi Alfie, I'm based in Leighton Buzzard Bedfordshire, thanks for commenting & watching 👍
@@tweakerman Thanks. How much sanding can the veneer take on these cabs before going too far? Is the veneer fairly thick?
