Your tutorial was fantastic. So easy to understand. I am now confident I can easily set up my new iphone 15 when it arrives. The next thing I will look for is how to wipe the old and get it ready for trade in. I know there is something tricky about the find your phone between the old and the new. I messed it up the last time and I hope to get it right this time. thank you. That was great.
This was really helpful for me, much clearer than the mass of on line instructions which piece-mealed each step. One question - any info on what to do with the SIM card from my old phone which I'm returning for a rebate?
This is the best tutorial video I’ve seen! I’m doing my new iPhone Pro Max on Monday, my day off just in case I run into issues! Thanks for this video!
Will I have to reset apps if I’m in Thailand .. or should it TF all data / apps if I use I cloud or mirror camera method .. I have Thai phone number. It’s backed up & I have uk 🇬🇧 sim still. Can I insert this e sum too. I’m worried will lose access to apps in uk and pictures , you tube playlists etc.
What about your apps that control cameras, sonos, airco devices etc? You need to reconfigure the connections or is that transferred to during the setup?
I want to transfer to my new iphone that has photos in it from a trip with friends.. I’m worried will it copy photos from my old phone and still keep the new ones on the new phone??
Can I just transfer all the apps and data first then I will do the esim later so I can still use my old phone while the new phone downloads everything thru iCloud?
Thank you for the video. It answered my question about updating iOS prior to the data transfer. Is there any difference in terms of data transfer between "iPhone to iPhone" and "iCloud to iPhone"? Once the new iPhone is setup, can I still use the old iPhone for playing music via bluetooth or use other apps?
If I start with a clean slate on my iPhone without utilizing my "previous" iPhone or iCloud backup, will the custom keyboard words I've saved be transferred over?
I did the restore from a Mac backup using a Thunderbolt 4 cable on the _out_ side of a Thunderbolt dock, but it was still pretty slow. Speed for some reason seemed to top out at around 130 MB/sec even for large media files, so I don't know what is going on there.
@@JerrySchulze Restored the backup of an iPhone 14 Pro Max to a iPhone 15 Pro Max. I think a _lot_ of the slowness of backup/restore to a Mac is in the logic - not the I/O speed - so I left some (probably more caustic than I should've) feedback via the Feedback Assistant). I can't really monitor USB speed, and the media resided on a Synology DS1821+ on a private 10 gb network so I all could really monitor is the speed at which it was pulling data from the NAS. (If I copy downloaded media from the iMac's internal SSD to the NAS I do get peaks around 800-925 MB/sec so the private network is working fine).
@@JerrySchulze A little better than that, I think. I could - by monitoring ethernet transfer speeds to my NAS - see it transfers media at around 100 - 130 MB/sec whereas USB 2 is only a maximum of around 60 MB/sec. I simply think Apple didn't bother optimizing Mac sync speeds since lightning's been stuck at around 480 mbps. IIRC, wifi sync isn't much faster than lightning - probably for the same reason - though I don't remember if wifi sync bothers to transfers media. Wifi _should_ be capable of almost a gigabyte/sec, though I've never experienced anything like those speeds on a wifi sync.
I just realized that iOS17 doesn't support my iPhone SE v2, so I may have to update my hardware after all. Have bookmarked this guide for that eventuality; thanks Jerry!
NOW its an option for me; apparently I had to upgrade to 16.7 before the 17 option appeared. Yay, I can keep my old phone for at least another year (I'm not a gotta-have-the-newest person). @@JerrySchulze
In a country where SIM cards are still in use at what point do you swap the sim over neither Apple or android tell you, normally I do it after it’s all done. I suppose this is a plus for not having a sim slot .
I haven’t seen whether it’s recommended or necessary to update your iOS on the old phone from whatever 16 version you might have to 17.0.2 before transferring the data to the new iPhone 15.
I'd like to know too as I have the original SE phone and it ill not upgrade the iOS from 14 anymore. Hence the reason for the new phone. (I'm stubborn)
@@tomcoon9038 Well since you can’t on your SE I think the question is moot in your case. Whatever backup you have from your iOS 16 SE is the one you’ll have to bring over. For the record, I did update to 17 on old phone, then backed it up and then transferred direct to iPhone 15. Took not much time at all.
Mine transferred pretty easily except it locked up my Apple Watch. I had to do a hard reset on my watch, remove it from my account and then pair it as a new watch to get it to pair.
I believe you're transferring data from your old iPhone to your iPhone 15 with the same provider. I'm thinking about getting an iPhone 15 Pro from Verizon but my current provider is AT&T. Following your tutorial, will the phone no transfer over? thanks for your attention.
If you buy from Verizon or the Verizon version from Apple and choose to port your number the new iPhone will may walk you through something a little different. Best to ask Verizon.
Very timely as Ive just ordered a new 15, as its 3 years since I did this.I'm in europe so may have to fiddle with a sim swap I"m not sure if the new 15 will come with a physical sim slot.
What if I want to set up my new iPhone as fresh new iPhone, but still retain the essential data like messages and photos? But I want all the apps, home page etc to be wipped clean?
You went through all the work to produce this video and yet nothing about encrypted backups. Following your video everyone is left being signed out of 100 + apps. I need encrypted transfer and cannot figure it out.
Am currently completing the setup of my new iPhone from a backup on my Mac. Would be nice if you could explain and show this in more detail. Such as having to connect your new iPhone, making sure 'Find My iPhone' setting is turned off in settings and then clicking the 'Restore Backup' from the finder. Setting up from iCloud back up is much easier and quicker, but an Apple Store employee told me restoring from an encrypted backup on your Mac ensures you are not signed out of your Apps.
This actually no longer works for iPhone 15 and IOS 17.3. The only way to migrate data from an old phone now is by attending an online session with Apple.

That's great, when do you get it? Maybe I will work on a reset video.
Great instruction! Many thanks!
Thanks! Easy to follow instructions. Nice explanation of the difference between iCloud transfer and device to device transfer. 😊
Glad it helped!

Did you unpair your watch from your old phone prior to setting up the new one?

Just got an iPhone 15 and the software update has wasted about 12 hours of my time never had a worse setup
I agree. The set up is terrible.

yes!

Yes, they should be in iCloud. Check other devices like Mac or iPad and they should be there

Good idea! Which iPhone? I think the phone still does things like that slower than we would like.

It actually seems that when connecting to iTunes or finder it still only uses usb2 speeds. I don’t know why.

how do I get my second number over? It is on a Sim Card in the old iphone (Tmobile)
