Actually, upon further examination, this train definitely has NOT yet pulled into the old Orlando ACL station. He is traveling northbound towards it. South of the image is Taft Yard and the Sand Lake SunRail platform. North is Kaley Yard and Orlando Amtrak.
Interesting find, Geepy! Lord knows how many K5LAs I've encountered railfanning the Coast Line here in Southern California. BTW, the flashers at the beginning, are they LEDs?
ICrailfanner It's a K5 by the most important metric by far...the music it makes! I called it a K5H because many people don't know what a K5L is, despite them sounding identical.
I have a friend who is an engineer and had that locomotive on the coast starlight it's just all the dust it's picked up and build up, it's sound different when it's clean I heard it when it was clean SpeakerPolice
people dont get facts right. this here is a Gen 2 hybrid K5LA with overflown air going in to it. it gives a intresting sound but Faiiiiiiir away of begin a K5H. K5h´s are lower piched and a nice smoother sound. hybrid K5LA´s are Screamers. higher piched of be fair of a K5H. another thing is to look at is looking on photos of the unit itself. it has a ow maniford frame. K5H´s use High frames. so it wont fit on amtrak P42´s roof. the only common horns you can find on a P42´s are K5l´s - K5la´s - hybrid K5LA´s - rarely used P5NC's. NO k5h's!!! next time ask people around on forums or do some self reseache. instead of thinking *RARE K5H!!!!! WOOOW*.. people go find u bit stupid. if u give worng info
Mr. Scotty I bet you're fun at parties. It sounds like a K5H/L, and with no way of closely examining the horn itself nobody can really say what it is one way or the other. However I know for a fact some P42s were fitted with K5H/L horns, so it's entirely possible that's what we're hearing. I'm also very skeptical of the claim that air moving through a K5LA can make it sound nearly identical to a K5H/L, having been around both for much of my adult life. As for the manifold designation, that's just nitpicking, especially when you can't see it. Yes, an H horn won't fit properly on the roof of a Genesis unit, but they sound exactly the same otherwise. -shrug- No need to tear everything down to the most minute detail. We're all here to enjoy the trains. :P
That was a great-sounding horn on 14. Unfortunately, her horn was replaced with a Raised Letter (3rd generation) K5LA.
they would have kept this horn on for much longer but i hate the had to replace it
Ahh, what nice music.
The K5H has a hollow, almost eerie sound. I do like them!
SpeakerPolice
True that.
SpeakerPolice Great Catch, Speaker! You made a mistake with the title, this video was taken when he was passing Pineloch Yard AFTER his Orlando Stop
Oops! It's been many months since I shot this and don't recall the exact location.

Reymond St. James The crossing signals? Yes, those are newly-installed LED units.
And the train was 97
Wow
It's a K5L, no Amtrak units would have a K5H because they are on a high manifold

SpeakerPolice ah that makes sense hahaha I was confused for a minute
ICrailfanner Figured I'd get a bunch of "What's a K5L, I've never heard one of those before" LOL
Nice.
ALP Train Videos Thank you!
It's a crappy sounding K5L. No high manifold.
It sounds just fine to me!
Yeah, Well I collect the damn things. It sounds crappy lol. Nothing a new set of internals wouldn't fix.
I'm sure it's not high on AMTK's list. :P
SpeakerPolice When it completely fails it will be.
Yeah, probably.
Its not so rare here in the Land of Lincoln
k5la 3rd generation
The horn on this locomotive is a Nathan K5H. It's unmistakable for anything else.

Whatever you say, there were several P42s that were originally equipped with K5Hs. This is one of them
this is my friend on p42 #14
lui459 speakerpolice is right Amtrak P42 have K5H
