Too many fabric scraps? Up-cycle your cutoffs into colourful binding

- Scrappy binding looks fabulous on anything from small coasters, table runners, tea towels, bags and pouches etc to actual quilts. You can go all out throwing every colour & pattern in there or just stick to one colour scheme to tone it down whilst keeping it unique and interesting! (The smaller the sewing project, the smaller the scraps should be so you'll have multiple colour changes along shorter sections).
This particular lot of binding is for an upcoming charity quilting workshop (for Project Linus) as scrappy binding like this often looks really lovely on donated quilt tops as there's bound to be colours that the binding can pick up fron the quilt top fabrics. Otherwise it can often be quite difficult to find something matching.
Scrappy binding is also a really neat (and fun) way to keep your fabric scraps pile from getting out of control and it's nice to always have a roll ready made for when it might come in handy..
I hope you'll find this useful if you haven't already made this before and I wonder if you can think of any other uses for it.. Feel free to share your ideas, tips or comments below - I always love reading through them!
Thanks so much for watching!
Happy sewing, my fellow fabric lovers!

This looks like it was so much fun to make and lots of good suggestions for how to use. Hope you’re having a great day ❣️
It was so much fun that I carried on until gone 1am last weekend.. 😂🙈 It's hard to stop once you get going!
This lot of colourful binding is for an upcoming charity quilting workshop (for Project Linus) as scrappy binding like this often looks really lovely on donated quilt tops as there's bound to be colours that the binding can pick up fron the quilt top fabrics. Otherwise it can often be quite difficult to find something matching. And my fabric scraps pile now looks much healthier again as well lol..
Have a wonderful day, too, and thanks so much for watching! 🙋♀️😍
I’ve heard of Project Linus quilts and I was checking into them for my area (Pennsylvania, USA). I think making a very neutral quilt with colorful scrappy binding would be really fun and then the binding would make quite a statement. What do you think of that idea?😊
Absolutely beautiful idea! You could even add a strip of 2.5" squares in all different colours, say 8" or so in from the edge going all the way round like a frame, followed by more neutral blocks between the frame and the edge before it's all finished with scrappy binding. The inner frame would then mirror the colourful binding and be shown off by the neutral background. I hope that makes sense..
Absolutely love your idea - filing that away for future reference! 😊
I'm sure there's a few groups in PA. My local one here in the south of England is full of wonderful women, all open and welcoming when I joined and so, so generous sharing all their sewing experience. I can definitely recommend joining up if geography will allow!
Happy quilting! 🙋♀️😍
@@bluebellhillcrafts That’s a great idea!♥️
Don’t you love it when one idea leads to another…!
Thanks so much for sharing yours!
So much fun with all the fabrics!
Isn’t it just…! So much so that I didn’t want to stop lol.. rather tired the following day 😂🤷♀️
The sign of a really good project!
Hehe, it definitely is.. ☺️
This is such a wonderful idea! I could make a bag, a journal cover, a pouch, a cushion cover, … So many possibilities! And I love how you so beautifully combined the colours ❤️🩵🧡💙🩷🤍💚♥️🤎💜💛
Oooooh, I love the ideas of a journal or cushion cover! I hadn’t thought of those 😍😍😍👍.
Actually, I’m editing the next video at the moment on ‘crumb quilting’, that would be perfect for a journal cover. I have a few crumb quilted pieces now, maybe a journal cover is THE idea of what to make with them - my mind is doing cartwheels right now lol..
You have such a brilliant creative mind….! Can I borrow it, please? 😂😍
Amazing ideas, thanks so much for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🪡🧵
@@bluebellhillcrafts Oh, please, borrow away 😊😊😊 I look forward to the crumb quilting! I never heard of that and you got me curious 🧐🩷
It should come with a health warning 😂- once you start it’s easy to get obsessed with it!
Crumbs is a description for those really small scraps, like biscuit crumbs - often the unloved leftovers.. Crumb quilting is a fabulous way to rescue those little fellas, too! 😍😍😍❤️🪡🧵💕
@@bluebellhillcrafts Oh, my, but I do adore those little bits…! ♥️♥️♥️
How could you not…! 😁😍😍😍
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yay, so pleased you enjoyed it, thanks so much for watching ☺️🙏🙏🙏
What width are you making here please?
It's the standard binding width of 2.5" before you fold it in half. I hope that helps! Happy sewing ☺️
