👶🍼 I'm a total beginner shrimp keeper, so I appreciate your excellent info! I started keeping shrimp BY ACCIDENT when I found three little shrimp were included in a bag of ember tetras I'd just bought. Knowing nothing about shrimp, I did some quick research, then hobbled together a small "shrimp home" with items leftover from my fish tanks. Surprisingly, those shrimp lasted a month and even seemed to thrive. Then I was hooked! Next, I set up a 2.5 gallon tank with all the necessary features. Then, I bought a few more shrimp from Petco. Yes, the shrimp are low quality, but also cheap and a great way to learn for a beginner. Now, I'm setting up a 5 gallon tank because one of the shrimp turned out to be berried! I also bought the "Shrimp Baby" food, which turned out to work GREAT for my Sterbai cory fry! They have such tiny mouths, and that powder is small enough for even newly hatched fry. Thank you for your great educational content!
We got some cherry and blue shrimps for my nano tank. After about 8 weeks I noticed baby shrimp in the tank, fun! If we end up,with too many I guess I’ll contact the store we got them from and see if they would take any extras ?
Thanks for the sub and I'm glad you found the video helpful! Give your shrimp time as they may be acclimating to their tank still. The one key takeaway when it comes to shrimp breeding is being patient.
@@shrimplycanadian My girlfriend likes to joke saying that the male shrimp HAS TO BE GAY, because we have 3 females with sattles, and we have never saw the male do anything about it ! 🤣
My shrimp had eggs and now they are gone…. Could they have hatched somewhere and I don’t see them or could the eggs have been dissolved by the mother? I have nothing in the tank except shrimp and a few other very small snails. I’m devastated bc we were so excited when we saw the eggs under her tail and now, about 2.5 weeks since seeing them, there appears to be nothing under her tail anymore.
Once the female has given birth, the newborn shrimp stay in one place for a few weeks. Slowly they will come out of hiding so keep an eye out for little babies. There are times also where the female may drop her eggs and nothing will hatch. If you do not see any babies in the next few weeks, this probably could have happened.
I just got 6ghost shrimp and 4neo shrimps different colors about 5days ago, how long does it typically take for babies to come? Who knows I may only have females or males too 😂 what are the chances of that?
Sometimes these shrimp can breed right away, sometimes it can take up to 3 months as they may need to get used to your tank's conditions. Patience is usually the key here. What you can do also to ensure they breed properly is to feed them protein heavy foods like frozen bloodworms for example. Also, when it comes to sexing shrimp, check this video out: ua-cam.com/video/RKPtwW7K4i4/v-deo.htmlsi=KkxzocY8WDR7TuCN
Here, they are called Yellow Laser Shrimp and are the highest grade of yellow shrimp similar to that of the Painted Fire Red grade to the Red Cherry Shrimp.
@@shrimplycanadian Ok so there is a back story to this.. but long story short they are blue dream and cherry. I got some lower quality ones because My theory is if I can keep them alive then I can setup another tank and get the actual shrimp I want. I am excited ☺️ I know I can do it now 💖
@@shrimplycanadian I love them! The 1st "shrimp" I ever kept were brineshrimp... And It started because I put a Seamonkey kit on my Amazon wishlist. When I failed at having them work. One of my friends who is a fishkeeper helped me and sent me some eggs and spirulina for them. I've had my colony going for almost 8 months now. I figured time to try actual shrimp. Again my fish keeping friend came to my aid! However I didn't realize I needed to drop acclimate my shrimp (that's probably what happened to most of them). He did suggest getting some locally from my fish club and I found what people call "culls" . Even the "culls" or lower quality shrimp need love too 😀
I recently bought six red cherry shrimps and two of the females were already berried... Do the eggs change colour when they are due to hatch? They are currently yellow.
Congratulations! You should have shrimplets soon. Eggs are usually yellow and should stay that way. As the babies hatch before they are released, they will be transparent in colour and will develop their colour over time. In the 4th stage, there should be a clip of a mom giving birth to a transparent baby shrimp.
Hello 👋@shrimplycanadian love your pretty Neocaridina Shrimp. Mine are all mixed. If you don't mind my asking what do you feed your Neocaridina Shrimp 🦐
Thanks 😊 The food I feed them ranges. Aside from the left over fish food (powdered), they also eat Hikari Algae Wafers, GlasGarten Shrimp Dinner, Mineral Junkie, BacterAe, Shrimp Baby and nano banquet blocks by ZooMed. I alternate accordingly. What I'll do is make a full video, maybe for this coming Friday on all of this.
@@shrimplycanadian Good Morning Mr. Andy!! I would love to see a video of all that you feed your Neocaridina Shrimp. 😁 I feed mine Dennerle Shrimp King Complete and the Mineral. I also use the Hikari Algae Wafers and Bacter AE. I give them the GlasGarten Shrimp Lollipop. As you can see on my shrimp they have bred the colors out. I just mixed a lot of blue and reds together. Do you also have Caridina Shrimp? 🦐 I could not keep them alive. I've only been housing these guys for about a year. They are a lot of work 😄 Thank you for your videos. Have a great day !!
I have yet to try the lollypops but will one day try it out. I am trying a new natural type food but a video on that soon enough if it works out. I do not have Caridinas but I will be getting into them soon enough. They require more special treatment and so I have to get a few things in place before I get my first batch.

You can try trading them in for credit or even try selling them online to people looking to buy shrimp.
I have some blue dream, they love red root floaters

@@shrimplycanadian, thank you so much for this info!
Just picked up 5 blue Neocardinas today and there was a red shrimplet in the bag I got for free
Keep him in there until adult, if it is still red put it in a different tank because when it breeds with blue shrimp it will make poor quality shrimp
@GreighFuller it wont mecessarily make low quality shrimp it has a chance to create shrimp with patterns and stuff
Congrats if they breed u could get clear shrimp babies 😂
@@lemoneez4485this isn't true. The shrimp offspring will be wild type, and will ruin the gene pool of the rest of the shrimp.

Hi were do you buy your shrimp?
I buy them from two places: Finatics Aquarium in Mississauga and more recently, Planted Aquaria in Oakville.

Is 77 degrees Fahrenheit perfect for my shrimp?
77 F can work for your shrimp. I have a few tanks that are around 78 F but the majority of mine are at around 75 F.
Bro can shrimplets can live with guppy fries??
If they are all babies, then yes, they should all be fine. I'd still provide hiding places for your shrimp through the use of plants and other decor.
Is 82F a good temperature?
I usually keep mine between 75 and 78 F. You can keep them at 82 but they tend to grow a lot faster and their lifecycle can be cut a little shorter.
I have a shrimp only tank .very small, 2.6 fluval, they are booming, does anyone want some babies 😂
Give me
lol
I'm in north Florida, are you close? I have at least 4 berried , this is going to be the third generation in 9months😅@@onlykite91
Throw them in and forget, in a month you'll have babies lol less you do the better
True but it's also good to maintain your tank at some point to keep them healthy and thriving.
