Was glad to see it finally get clear of the water! Tremendous drag, but the moment she clears, and gets air under the angled bottom, lift and great acceleration! I’ve always loved those old graceful workhorses. They saved many lives! Thanks!!🌈
PBY Catalina, one of the most valuable yet under-rated aircraft of the second world war, and probably one of the nicest looking aircraft too, there is a purposefulness of its beauty. She wasn't fast, but she could get the job done, time after time after time and that job was keeping the Atlantic and Pacific shipping lanes open.
Thanks for not ruining it with music
I love the way the retractable floats blends in as wing tips!
thanks for pointing that out. at the first viewing i didnt notice this. so went back and had a second look. wow there you go they do fold in. pretty cool tbh....
Excellent film footage and sound. Some great background shots as well.
Thanks😊
This aircraft saved many lives of sailors and pilots in all the oceans.
Truly beautiful aircraft so graceful! I tried to buy a derelict one, to restore, I found in the middle of a jungle, many years back but couldnt pull it off.
Beautiful! Just beautiful! It is awesome to see one takeoff from the water.
Greta footage.
Something I haven't seen before online....This Catalina is so light (not a full fuel load for a long flight, I imagine, plus no munitions strapped underneath the wings) that the wingfloats aren't even touching the water during taxiing! and the plane took off so quickly...... a Cat loaded to capacity would have taken waaaay longer than that to get airborne.
What a beauty. That wingspan is really something
Beautiful... and a priceless contribution for breaking the U boat blockade of Britain during WW2. It helped to make sure I was born free.
Boas lembranças do robusto, eficiente e versátil Catalina.
Thank you for sharing with us these beautiful images.
Such a beautiful simple design.
Great seeing some of these old planes still flying today.
A bit of swing on takeoff.....sounded awesome, is she still in Holland?.
28 of may 2019 he should leave holland to america for ever😢
The aircraft has been purchased by "The Collings Foundation", ( www.collingsfoundation.org/ ), and will be restored to it's wartime configuration. And yes, it will be kept flying. This is all covered in the October/November 2019 (Part 1) and January/February 2020 (Part 2) issues of "Warbirds International" magazine.
This PBY is currently close to completion of restoration and flight. She has been very carefully inspected, repaired where necessary, and meticulously restored to its WW2 service condition, with the nose turret and military interior reinstalled. I visit her regularly and can confirm she is more beautiful than ever.
beats any turboprop.... That pure sound of pistons..
Pratt and Whitney Symphony orchestra playing the Wasp Concerto at the Catalina Concert hall.
Most of the sound is from the propellers
@@peroleable no, the predominant sound you hear is the engine exhaust. I lived on Air Force flight lines for years. Props whirr - massive radial piston engines, which always ran without mufflers, make a huge, sustained roar.
Don't you just love it ... a boat that flys
Effectively! But the main landing on the runway hard not to forget the landing gear .......
It must feel beautiful when it comes out and up from the water
Great plane, even by today's standards, range is exceptional. Hope they carry flotation bags and pumps, just in case - like the one in Florida lost only 10 metres from shore.
Прикольная техника. Братану такую на рыбалку гонять!
Id love to get a good copy of the blue prints
very nice plane
Heb hem ook nog vanaf de Zaankade kunnen waarnemen, thv. LAB44 / entree Oost.
Mooi!
The nose of this plane reminds me of the b-24 liberator, then again they are the same company.

MEER WAARD DAN 5 JFK"S
boefje JFK?
By FAR, she's worth more than you are
OK. Lets just see if the pontoons fully retract before the plane is out of sight. Or not. (pet peeve of mine)… Love the cat no matter what.
*edit* This time is like 99% of all the other take offs that don’t show the pontoons retract. Why???? I DON’T DON’T KNOW. GO AWAY NOW.
As soon as she is coming out of the water you can see the Right hand pontoon folding up to be a wing cap
Well, you don't type TOO bad for only being 4 years old...
@@davidvines6498 Yes thank you. Through the mist it is definitely there.
