Samurai Champloo was so memorable to me while it played on Toonami because of it's characters and music. RIP Nujabes, taken to early and never got to see the success of his music in the West.
I think what helped it besides it amazing unique narration characters ost and pace was that it was animated original first before it had a manga thus it could not be heavily criticized on what it was or where it was heading just that it was really cool show. Nowadays manga comes first before its animated and studios and can pick and choose if the manga, knowing the material, is worth animating or not. Basically no longer taking risks. Goes both way for Studios not willing to invest to something unknown and mangaka unable to choose a different path as editors telling them they need to have certain elements that falls under the genre or publishers rules.
I finished the anime today and I finally understood what it is all about. The show has already been giving you clues but it is not until the end you get what the are trying to show you, animes are usually centered around the main character getting somewhere or achieving something, and you might have thought this was going to be one of those animes but then you learn it is about living in the present, you become so blind to what you have right now because you are after something bigger but then when it is over you wish you would have enjoyed the process more. That's why Fuu says "I wish this journey could go on forever". You just need to live in the present, because it is all you have.
From the get-go, you're already setting up a narrative that is just patently wrong. There are plenty of anime projects like Samurai Champloo that aimed to be a passion project while keeping profit as a tertiary/secondary motive; you just don't know about them (ignorance is okay but not when you're spreading a message). Secondly, the goal of many anime in the past and now is profit driven (something that affects the entertainment medium in general). Your video is fine, but do not twist reality just to make your favorite anime look a little brighter.
