Some great flatty action. Never tried trolling hardbodies for them, so I'll have to give it a go with the young lad. Onya Sammy and thumbs up again for the variety in your videos. True everyman fishing channel.
Nice work fellas, my best flatty was 86cm caught on a laser pro being trolled for tailor n i took a shortcut across a bar to get to next deep hole n bang, think they herd me up n down the bay lol
I used to fish the jumpinpin in the early nineties before i moved to FNQ Gotta say the flatties are much bigger and more prolific up here. My fondess memory of those days was when an f111 crossed the bar at speed heading out to sea. Man that was fast n loud.
Great video guys, always good to see someone doing well on flathead, particularly at Jacobs well. One of my favourite haunts from years ago. Love drifting around the weed banks and sand bars to pick up a quality feed of fresh fish. Cheers.
Hey Sammy. I have a couple questions what speed are you trolling at for the flaties and I noticed your wash shows you don't troll in a straight line. Is that to follow the drop off ?
Hey mate there is no exact right speed to troll, we were just in idle and it was working that day. Best advice is to start slow and keep getting slightly quicker until you start catching fish 👌👌 Yes we were following the drop off 👍
Start at idle mate and go from there. If that isn’t. Working go a bit quicker. There is no right or wrong speed, they change their preference all the time depending on their mood 👍
Epic session boys, great video, any news on when the Zerek flat shad jointed is being released, can't wait to get my hands on some, love your flathead videos champion, awesome stuff,
hey sammy, any tips on water depth? me and the old man go to jumpinin all the time and get them on plastics but have never really gotten the hang of trolling, instantly get weed on the hooks
I tried this (closer to the spit) but all I caught was seaweed. I gave up pretty quick because I had to reel in to clear it every 30s. What am I doing wrong?
I dont know what these “flatheads” are but they pretty much look like a remora here in Fla. But Kord seems like a cool dude so its all good! Love to see you guys having fun and talking sh+$@t! Always a blast watching your vids Sammy! Come on down to the Fla Keys as this is our favorite time of the year to fish…..no tourists no Googans just locals and cool bros wanting to have a good time and catch em up!😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
A lot of people get the species of Australia mixed up with the American(and other parts of the worlds) species. So.... The Dusky Flathead (Platycephalus fuscus) is not the same species as the Lizard fish/what we call a Grinner (Synodus foetens), and aren't even in the same family. Flathead are closely related to flounder(which we also have in Aus) and Halibut. Australia has numerous lizardfish species, as such does the US. I believe the correlation you made comes from the term "Lizard" which Sammy used to describe the bigger fish. This term is colloquial and is often interchanged with crocodile, croc, frog etc. The Dusky flathead grows in excess of 125cm/50inch(Mainly caught in the 1900's), compared the max of 50cm/20 inch of the lizardfish. The flathead is one of the staple fish that all Australians are brought up catching, and is 'arguably' our most important recreational fish. These fish have never been considered trash(like a lizardfish) and to suggest such especially/obviously in a place and with a species that you don't know is rather ignorant. 🤔🤔 Some of the other species that people mix up, but are completely different are: Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi lalandi) vs.California Yellowtail Amberjack (Seriola lalandi dorsalis). Different subspecies, Southern Kingfish grow bigger. Mangrove Snapper (Lutjanus griseus) vs. Mangrove Jack( Lutjanus Argentimaculatus) are not the same species but are in the same family. With the rest of the snapper or Lutjanus species found in Aus, no identical species are found in the US. Kingfish/King Mackerel(Scomberomorus Cavalla) vs. Spanish Mackerel (Scomberomorus Commerson). Spanish are a wider bodied, bigger growing species. African Pompano/(or what we call a) Pennant Fish(Alectis ciliaris) vs. Diamond Trevally (Alectis Indica). Completely different species ie; Size, Shape, Location BlackFin Tuna(Thunnus atlanticus) vs. Longtail/Northern BlueFin Tuna(Thunnus tonggol). Longtail are a longer/bigger species. Jack Crevalle(Caranx hippos) vs. Giant Trevally (Caranx ignobilis). Just an all round different fish. A really big mix up is also the "Bonito' or False Albacore (Euthynnus alletteratus) and Mack/Mackerel Tuna(Euthynnus affinis), which are basically the same apart from location and some key features. Cod vs. Grouper are in the exact same family, yet non of the species found in Australia are found in the US(so i guess we can call them what we like😆). Porgy vs. Seabream. The porgy is the "American" name for the family known everywhere else around the world as Sea Bream. The Australasian Snapper is part of the Sea bream family (or Porgy) but in a complete different genus to that of the American common species like Sheepshead, and Jolt head Porgy. Some of your Sea Bream species look like the emperor (Lethrinus) family found in Aus eg: Grassy Emperor/Sweetlip, Spangled Emperor, but are extremely unrelated.

Nice one mate, we were fishing down the gold coast!

I go to the Jumpinpin to catch a lot of species like flathead tailor Jew whiting and bream it is my local fishing spot 😅
Hey Sammy. I have a couple questions what speed are you trolling at for the flaties and I noticed your wash shows you don't troll in a straight line. Is that to follow the drop off ?

Nice 1 mate, about time you beat Kord at something 😂😂😂
Hahah I know right! Been a long time coming 👌👌
Going to try it for shallow water snapper this year.
Yeah snapper trolling is epic! Did you see my snap trolling video from last year?
Yeah mate that was epic I never thought I'd see them hit deep divers like that.
Hey mate what a awesome video! Just wondering how deep of water were you guys trolling in?
awesome stuff, tango shads hey,do they still sell that green one
Certainly do mate. The colour is called scum dog 👍
Hi Sammy,
Can you advise recommended trolling speed for flatties in Broadwater?
Cheers
Start at idle mate and go from there. If that isn’t. Working go a bit quicker. There is no right or wrong speed, they change their preference all the time depending on their mood 👍

@@SammyHitzkeFishing Thanks champion
What were the clips you used to hook up your lures?
They are Mustad Fastach clips. Probably a 0 or 1 size. Really safe and convenient.
@@terrytailor outstanding. Thank you so much.
Yeah what the phantom said 👌👌
Sammy can ya maybe stream some of your fishings trips on twitch u could also make videos out of them
hi sammy great video, what speed do you recommend ???
hey mate, start as slow as you can go and then slowly get fast until you find what they are responding too on the day 👌👌🍻🍻
hey sammy, any tips on water depth? me and the old man go to jumpinin all the time and get them on plastics but have never really gotten the hang of trolling, instantly get weed on the hooks
Hey mate between 1-2m is the go for trolling, we still get heaps of weed, you just have to soldier through it 💪
Everyone was catching big fish this weekend my mate got a 79cm flatty today on a 1-4kg rod with a 2500 stradic
That’s a go! Love flattie season 👌👌
Cheers Sammy! 🍺🍺🍺
Thanks for watching 🍻🍻
I tried this (closer to the spit) but all I caught was seaweed. I gave up pretty quick because I had to reel in to clear it every 30s. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Sammy great video, just wondering what are the clips you used? And do you use fluro carbon or mono as your leader?
Hey mate, they were small Mustad fastach clips and the leader was fluorocarbon 👌👌
got in at 1 view ! nice vid Sammy
Hahah nice mate! Enjoy 🍻🍻
Great video Sammy.
How fast was the boat going when trolling?
Hey mate, we were just in idle, so not real quick but there are days when they prefer them trolled quite fast 👍
Top stuff Sammy,
Another great vid👍👍
Do you prefer to troll with the tide only?
Thanks mate. Nah not all the time. When the weed is bad thought trolling with the tide helps stop the lures fouling 👌
Thanks Cord and Sammy. What sort of speed were you trolling generally? I’ve done it once for one small flatty which was exciting.
Thanks for watching mate. We were
Trolling at idle so not very fast, just mooching along 👍
