Thanks for your video. Before this video I was ready to call the local garage door repair shop. It seemed silly to have someone else come out to repair something that should have been simple, but I didn’t know how the handle was attached until your video. I will repair mine this weekend.
I have very similar looking bar lock, mine does not say Clopay. I have always lifted from the handle and mine is from 1973. I just bought new Clopay doors to replace the old wooden doors, and plan to reuse the bar lock. 8 foot double doors, 2 car garage. I rekeyed the lock to match the house key. The advantage of the double handle and inside dead bolt,, if the door is locked on the outside, you can release dead bolt and escape the garage. Originally was not going to keep it but I realized it's a good lock system.
Man, I needed this video only for that stupid "punch pin". For two weeks, sweating inside humid, steamy shed. Couldn't figure out how to release the inside handle. Traveling now, when I get home, I've got the hammer, hopefully ill have a tool to punch out the needle. You could probably cut 9 min video to 4 minutes. "Dirty shed" hahahaha. Thanks again
I always thought that handle on the bottom of the door was for my foot. Raise it up to my waist with my foot, then grab with my hand and open the rest of the way. 🤷♀️
My dad went to Ace, HD and Lowe's, they all offer the same assembly part. Im replacing mind for the same reason as the video, cracked plate. All three stores come with the new plate & handle. My dad asked at all three stores for just the plate. Package deal only. Good luck.
The pin only comes out one way, it is a stepped pin. On mine the shiny small end is what I tapped on. The other end is grooved and larger. Try hitting the other side. Mine is from 1973, and the pin from the video looks the same as mine.
@@scottdowney4318 yeah I know I was trying to replace the lock when I bought my house it didn’t have a key. It was really stuck was put up in the early 90s. But finally got it by sticking a new pin and hammering it out and using pliers to pull the other side
I think you’re a working man, not like Trump scamming everyone and evading taxes. Your garage is like mine. It’s for stuff you’re not going to need in 10 years. And you know to get 2 new handles and install them near the near the lock and handle so you’ll stop grabbing the Cloplay outside & inside handles. And that Snap-On screwdriver is expensive.
You could have saved me so much time by not talking so much and just getting to the job. I don't care that your garage is a mess. I don't care that you lost the roll pin. I don't care about your detailed description of your dam screwdriver! Your video would have been so much better if it didn't have all the BS. But thanks, you showed me what I wanted to know, eventually.

Amen! Ive been battling for two weeks, dying in the hot shed. Hopefully hammering the pin in and out, comes out as easy. "That what she said!"

Man I learned my lesson this morning, pulled the door up by the T handle broke in two and slit one of my fingers open.

The metal rods where the spring attached got stuck between the track and now it won't budge at all.
Where did you buy the replacement part? The one you call the "thing"

He was just trying his comedy routine before committing to a contract on a network.
His attitude is what is needed to get the job mojo flow
Lighten up man, he got the job done. I found his demo and explanation both informative and entertaining. Now I can replace mine.
