    Great instruction and camera work. More than 50 years in the electronic industry and really enjoy your instruction.
    The right gauge solder , extra flux and temperature controlled iron with a chisel tip makes all the difference together with the regular cleaning and tinning of the tip.
    Found the youtube PACE instruction videos also a game changer

    This was a video I didn’t even know I needed to watch!! Been away from soldering for decades now, this was a great refresher course! Thanks a billion for your time and effort. I really like that you zoom in nice and tight, and solder live on camera. Amazingly instructional!!
    Now that everything is basically SMD, what advice do you have on using solder paste and a heat gun instead of an iron?
    Greetings from Sweden!

      Hi , thank you for watching the video , much appreciated. I've posted quite a few various soldering videos on UA-cam showing various aspects of soldering , right down to the tiny stuff 0201's etc hopefully they are helping people . They have definitely got better over time regarding clarity , sound etc so I'm glad you found this one ok .
      I do use solder paste occasionally for some soldering but I still prefer hand soldering when I can as if you are pasting up boards you need to buy stencils for your pasting whereas most items I can just hand solder. There will always be a place for the good old soldering iron .
      I do have a hot air rework station the Quick 861DA model which if pasting is great for this and for any hot air rework etc. I can easily fit fine pitch QFP's using paste from a fine nozzle syringe so I do like using paste but only occasionally. I think it's easier to control your solder amount with an iron than with paste unless you have the correct stencils . In some of my other videos I mention different thickness solders , different soldering iron tips , fluxes etc that are all crucial to achieve certain results . Hope that helps. Thanks again for your support 👍

      Hi , thank you for your comment, much appreciated.
      In a few of my other videos I mention the types of tools , scopes , cleaning fluids etc that I use , I just can't mention these in every video as they would go on for to long.
      The microscope is a stereo long reach one from a company in England called GT Vision . It's their own brand one , not a branded one that costs ten times more . I really love it and as it's long reach you can get really big boards underneath it easily . This is the type I would definitely recommend.
      Soldering iron I use is a Weller TCP S with conical tip PTP7 or large flat sided tip DD8. You can file these tips down if you need a special shape that's why I love them . People don't think you can do this to tips but with these no problem.
      The flux I use I'm going to have to do some asking around to try and find a new type . Shame as I've been using this one for years.
      Thank you for your support , like I say there's more info in some other videos , i.e how to clean boards is one example , take care 👍

      Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated. I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
      For certain components I do use a microscope. The type I have always liked is called a stereo long reach microscope and mine was purchased from a company in the UK called GT Vision . I brought their own branded model which is great for me . It has a size adjustment of 0 to 4 on one dial and I have X10 eyepieces fitted to mine
      This enables me to see even 0201 size components ( which are like dust ) really easily . The stereo long reach option means you can fit very large boards underneath with ease , being able to manoeuvre the PCB into different areas . I wouldn't buy a standard microscope that you can get where you study insects etc as the working area is to small.
      Many different lighting options are available for microscopes but I would recommend getting small goosenecks as you can set them where you need , hope that helps , thanks again 👍

      Hi , thank you for your comment , much appreciated.
      Generally if I'm using lead free solder I aim for about 350 degrees centigrade and for leaded solder I would use about 320 - 330 degrees centigrade .
      Depending on size of joints etc this may vary slightly but for most general joints try the above temperatures and you should be ok . Hope that helps , thanks again 👍

      @@mrsolderfix3996 Hi, I've an other question. I tried soldering and joints were shiny (this is good, if I'm in right). But when i take off the soldering iron tip i get something like an hook. How can I avoid this?

    • @mrsolderfix3996
      @mrsolderfix3996  Рік тому +1

      Hi , thank you for your question . I presume you mean a solder spike coming out of the joint . To avoid these there is a couple of things to try . The first and best fix is to use flux on your soldering joints . Maybe you are , I don't know . If you are not I always tell people flux is massively important in soldering and must be used in my opinion . Secondly maybe you haven't got the right size solder tip for the job you are doing or the temperature is not set correctly. Give these a go and hopefully they will help . Good luck , take care 👍

    where abouts do you put the wire of solder? on the tip, the side of the tip, or on the wire with the tip heating up the wire?

    • @mrsolderfix3996
      @mrsolderfix3996  Рік тому

      Hi , thank you for your comment. In this instance I pre tin my iron tip with a tiny amount of solder then place that on the wire . Then simply add the solder very slightly away from the tip and directly onto the wire. The tip would have heated up the wire enabling the solder to melt freely , and the added flux makes the solder run quickly throughout the wire. Hope that helps 👍
