Definitely a mixed bag but they really redeemed themselves in the third movie. And they really found the perfect new co-lead for it. He portrays the role immaculately. 😉
The line, “It came with a black dude but he kept getting pulled over”, was ad-libbed by Wil Smith on the spot. Tommy Lee wasn’t expecting it and it took all his will power not to bust out laughing. The director loved the reaction and kept the take in the film.
@@AnimalAlmightythat’s what’s amazing about good ad-libbing, is you can’t even tell it’s ad-libbed by the actor/actress because it fits the character perfectly.
For those who don't know, the ending for this film was entirely reshoot because it was supposed to take place at the Twin Towers. Due to 9/11 the studio decided to do rewrites and reshoots.
Yeah, I agree MiB2 is a bit hit or miss but the chemistry between the leads is still there. Don’t let this sour you on watching MIB3, they close out the trilogy extremely well and I do think it’s the best of the trilogy
They did, I’ll be honest in saying I didn’t see the third film in the theaters like I did the first two and it wasn’t until years later that I watched it and after I was disappointed in myself for not seeing it sooner
They couldn't erase his identity, even if they wanted to. Unless they faked his death and totally reworked his face to be nothing like him. Way too much work when people that they hire can just have some files deleted and that's it, because they're nobodies to begin with. When everyone in the world knows how you look and sound like, it's ridiculous to try.
I just thought of something. They should totally make a MIB series about the adventures of rookie K to show us how he grew into such a badass agent. I totally would watch that
Maybe I got some good news for you. I really enjoyed the MiB animated series. Oh wait. You said K, not J. Here I was about to say it does a good job of that concept but the characters are flipped. Not even kidding man, I would really love that. It's what I'd love most from MiB, barring some new films that are good. I could take animated or live.
I definitely don't hate this film at all. It's not as good as the first, but it's positives still outweigh the flaws of the story. But Tommy Lee Jones is one who very seldom gets to express real and genuine emotions in his characters, and this was a perfect opportunity for him to do it more. I don't mind it being ambiguous as to whether Laura was K's daughter as I don't like being spoonfed in stories, but with what little interaction we got between him and Laura in the end, Tommy Lee Jones and Rosario Dawson had a great connection that should have been explored more earlier and could have added so much more depth to K's character. I'm really glad bringing him back at least served a point in the story and was the narrative was built around that aspect rather than just bringing him back for convenience-sake for J to have his old partner back.
I agree with you. The second one is not as terrible as its own CGI, but is a step back from the first one. For me the third brings back the right feelings (even if I think its villain is not that interesting, or menacing, compared to the others). I'll look up for your reaction to that.
The little girl in the post office scene was director Barry Sonnenfeld's daughter Chloe. She makes a second cameo appearance in MIB 3. She's easy to miss, but you should be able to recognize her when you see her in the third one. 😊
20:30 I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure that man with the ponytail is non other than Rick Baker! The man responsible for some of the most iconic practical effects in cinema history including American werewolf in London!
"A filler episode of a Men in Black show" is the best summary of this film I've ever heard. This is exactly the kind of mild, semi-predictable character story with a villain B-plot you expect from one of many episodes of a show, but not what could be, like you said, the last shot you ever get at a full cinematic release. It's not that there's anything necessarily WRONG with what they did....it just really doesn't do anything to take advantage of the scale of the medium available to it. MiB3 is like the antithesis to that, though. I thought MiB2 was decent....then I saw MiB3 and realized just how far of its full potential it really fell. MiB3 feels like everything MiB2 should have been. At the end of the day I'm just glad they got the opportunity to squeeze it out, because like others have said, it's easily my favorite of the three.
That Biz Markie beat boxing scene is one of the most original and memorable ones in all the science fiction movies I've ever scene. It was so unexpected and I just love it.
The man introducing the VHS at the beginning is Peter Graves - Captain Oveur in Airplane and the OG Jim Phelps in Mission: Impossible. Shame they couldn't get back Linda Fiorentino from the 1st MIB. This one feels like it's copying the 1st ones homework.
The first one is an impeccable set up for the MIB universe, the second one builds very well on J and K’s relationship. The 3rd one is by far my favourite
Always a joy to watch your reactions to movies I love how positive & upbeat you both are & your post movie discussions deliver excellent explanations on the likes/dislikes. One of my favourite reaction channels.
Did you recognize the guy with the glasses at the video rental. That's the same guy that got stuck to the ceiling by the bug alien in the first movie.🤣
The issue isnt her character its how short her screen time was they could have fleshed her out alot more the way they did it made her seam insignificant and un-noteworthy, whereas edgar felt overpowering and in control up to the very end.
Fun fact, the post office worker with the big ears (and his isolated top half) is this film's VFX director! He has a very funny story about them looking for a crew member who "looked like an alien" to fill that extra slot-
Men In Black 3 is my second favorite behind the first one. Men In Black 2 is fun but it does feel very much like a middle piece. There's also a fourth with Chris Hemsworth called Men In Black: International. Its different from the rest but I enjoyed it. A lot of people didn't but I am curious how you guys would feel on that one in particular.
@@kdot8340 Well, they do tell better stories in the first and third movies in my opinion, so there is proof that even these same filmmakers are capable of doing better.
Rosario Dawson is the actress who played Ahsoka Tano in the show Ahsoka 👏. I don't remember her much in Man in Black 2 because I thought the 3rd movie was better andvit was my number one favorite of the Trilogy since my parents loved number 3 as me.
As with most sequels to box office hits, it's a bit too aware of its audience. It pays too much fan service. It allows itself to be so confident in its brand that it becomes slapstick with how little they try to keep it believable. The good news is that part 3 is actually a good movie. It makes a solid attempt to build on the lore instead of just going, "Hey, guys! Remember the dog? Remember the alien whose head grows back? Remember the cockroaches?"
When I watched the MIB films, I never really applied that cinematography/screenwriting lens to it, so the specific strengths and weaknesses of each film did elude me. But your analysis of the differences between the first and second films do resonate with me. For what it's worth, the third film doubles down on the character building focus (like this film) rather than a world building focus (like the first), but they do so with much greater cohesion of story and memorable impact, at least IMO. Greatly looking forward to your reaction of the third film!
I still remember the marketing factor of that movie and the soundtrack especially. Schools here were doing dance competitions to that damned themesong.
12:20 audience loved Frank the pug from the first one so much they gave him a bigger part in this one. They actually used the same dog from the first movie and they had to use make up to hide his grey fur cuz it was 6 years later lol 13:04 my dog actually did that once. Rolled his head on the car window by himself lol 17:05 Will would beatbox in between takes and the director heard him and wanted to put it in the movie lol the guy he's beatboxing with is making all those sounds himself which doesn't make sense with the way his mouth moves lol
MEN in Black III should of been titled Return of the King. And had Elvis come back and saved the Earth. Thank you! Thank you Very Much! Elvis is now leaving the Planet..AGAIN!!
They did expand in the story. Between the first on and the second one they did release a couple cartoon series. But only those that watched cartoons on Saturday mornings would have known that.
The guy attempting to attack Serlena in the beginning is Micheal Bailey, he played the demon Balthazar in the 90s Charmed, also Ajax, an assassin on the show.
Plenty of people saying it, but MiB 3 was pretty good. I have some doubts the animated series is easy to find, but I would rec it for personal time or patreon. It might seem rough, but I grew to love it. Hey if not, there's at least two more films.
I'll be interested to see your reaction to the third film, guys. It's my personal favorite in the series. And you're right, this film wasn't received as well as the first film.
I must be the only person on the planet that loved this film. Its essentially a film about loss and gaining new perspective. It was a touch sillier than the first but that didn't bother me. All the characters were fun and it gives background to Kay as Laura, at least to me, is his daughter and he had to give her up for the better of her people, same as Jay who states he feels alone at the start of the film as he was opening up to her and feeling his feels.
I never thought I would be watching someone watching movies when i could just watch them myself 🤣 but the content is awesum, your chemistry is spot on and yeah keep it up ❤ oh and give No one lives with luke evans a go 😊😊

My favorite line in this one is Yea every Saturday night you’d be like, “FLUSH ME J FLUSH ME” I be like “Nah”
3 is a bit complicated but the best story and best one!
Frank, the pug reminds me of donkey from shrek hahaha. Especially the singing part.
