I loved the "if you could sit in a barrel maybe i'll wait" part so much. If she could mature into a wine, bitter as he likes and meet him halfway as he waits for her, then it might work out. I just love the whole song in general. As a person relating to his lifestyle and aspiring to habe the girl's lifestyle this is so interesting
yessss. I'm glad you agree with me. it's a great song :))
Imature or just prefers whiskey. Both great but wine is too different from the what he wants.
Yeah same
I always interpreted it as an older lover rejecting an inexperienced/young lover despite the young lover's magnetism.
righttttt. that's what I heard in the "sit in a barrel" line
Straight up man. That was my immediate take, in both age and views. A generational difference of 2 incompatible lovers, 2 very different view points.
It means 'too sweet to be wholesome' or 'too sweet to actually be sweet' ( a common saying in Ireland for when you see through fake sweetness / niceness). He has clarified it in an interview.
we are all in agreement here
I really like this analysis, thanks for helping me understand the song on a deeper level dude
thanks for being here
I heard him explain the meaning of this song as about someone resisting sobriety…😉
interesting. that explains a lot of the song for sure
Slainte to that!
loved it mate, very easy to watch no dead spots in the vid
appreciate the love
Love the painting man ❤
cheers
this whole song makes me think of the term "bitter sweet/ bitter sweetness of life". Their love was not ideal. The contrast is underlined by his preferred drink and her being a sweet grape. Hozier's use of metaphor is exceptional.
Melodious Poetic EMPATH
hmm yes
Do one on "Empire now"
The barrel thing means he needs her to ferment and sour a bit just like wine (ie. Losen up a bit) The song is after all named too sweet which i think means too uptight. I am a night owl myself with a pretty
similar life style. Was in a relatioship with someone who was exactly as the person described as too sweet for 4 years. It was unbearable.
yep you get it haha
It means she loved him he had issues worked night shift she was holy and believed in god he loved the girl but she loved him more we were 4 years apart to go back I would try harder .
I recently discovered your channel and I love your analysis, they seem very correct to me. I have no doubt that you will soon write your first hit. But... I must be honest with you, the first reason I watched one of your videos was because... well... you seemed like someone extremely beautiful❤... I hope you don't mind this compliment coming from a man😅.
Well Noon, continue as you are, you are very young and you will surely succeed.🤟🤘
wow. what a comment. thankyou so much. definitely don't mind the comment coming from a bloke. It's all love. thanks for being here

For some reason, you sound like SunnyV2.
Dude it's an accent
He's gay mate. He won't be seeing a girl. It's a him...
eve push us all to this grinding situation..
better vodka .. not her nor whiskas..
.
wrong.
I think this guys just called his bluff 😅. Hozier never came out explaining it really 🤔
hmmmm
who cares. The reason it’s a hit is because it’s a good song with a good chorus. The lyrics don’t make sense and they’re not that great
Yeah..like you can write a song with a catchy lyrics..😂
You’re too young to understand what they mean. Grow up first child.
who's they. hozier is one person
people may have experienced different things throughout their life. anyone could have experienced feelings spoken about in the song at any point in their life, from 18 to 118, and we shouldn't judge based on our age. who's to say the creator of this video hasn't experienced the very things hozier did, just at an earlier age.
