Funny and true but some additional information. Once hatched the ant will be soft and still treated as a baby, fed, protected and cared by others around it. When it's exo hardens, which can take minutes to days, it will then be given the roll of caring for other young (Normally the safest job in a Ant Colony). Only when ants get older, they get closer to the dangers, so expansion, gathering, hunting & Guard duty.
Tele macro lenses, expensive cameras and hiding out for hours on end and days on end until thry get good footage. All that while also researching how they behave and analyzing or assuming what they might do next to prepare for the crew's next step
Well I have an answer for how they get inside nest footage, they have their own ant colony holder that has transparent glass that allows us to see inside (As u probably guessed.) And they shoot the footage for whatever it's needed for.

I wish in future animal documentaries the Foley artists (creating the sound effects in post production) calm themselves down when inputting sounds ... sometimes, there is really no need to put those sounds and it is more disturbing than enriching the content.
