One massive reason you're better than a lot of these 'critics' Darrren is you don't hide behind a keyboard passing judgement. I've worked in construction and know builders, tradesmen who would never show their work on a channel like this. Good luck with the job.
you're a very wise man and it's a pleasure to watch your work. people are the most important thing in any business and you reap what you sow. well done. get well soon
Absolutely spot on mate, I’ve been a builder (joiner) for 35 years, I’m sick of been let down by bricklayers 🤷♂️ you’re doing right, love how chilled you are btw 👍👍
Hi Darren, get well soon, rest is best! I absolutely agree with your comments about subbies. I used to work as a plumber and always had plenty of work. When I asked customers why they used me, they said I turned up on time, my work was neat, my prices were reasonable and if they wanted to change the agreed work, I was flexible too! Seems there's a lack of accountability with many in the building trade and due to the shortage of skilled people, they can get away with it. Build your team and your reputation...people will always need what you offer. PS Tristan's bricklaying is coming along nicely!
Bang on, the old saying, if you want something doing, do it yourself. over the last 40 odd years i'v learned that bringing outside labour onto your job is 90% not cost effective as they don't put the effort in and out price themselves, so like you i became competent in most of the trades involved in building works, never been out of work and made a decent living out of it, in october i reach retirement age and although i'v enjoyed my time in the trade, started in 1977 HAHHHAAAA , come october you won't see my arse for dust, i'm leaving it to you young lads. All the best to you Darren and your lads, keep it up.
Ignore the outside noise mate, this country would benefit more if everyone had the same attitude and work ethic as you. Thanks for showing us an interesting insight into running a building business. 👍

I was having a retaining wall built years ago and hired a brickie to put the bricks walls up on top of the concrete blocks. He was related to my neighbour. After a few times being let down I told my neighbour I could build a better wall as at least I’ll turn up and lay some bricks. No matter how good you claim to be , you actually have to turn up and do some work or else you are actually useless. Forget the haters Darren.
I have exactly the same problem Darren, tradesman not turning up when they say they will!! Have taught myself now to do most trades, not the quickest but at least I know it’s going to get done. Keep up the good work Darren 👍
Well said pal you’re right about investing not many bosses have the so called time or money to do what you are doing !! It shows your not greedy and you respect your staff 👍👍👍
I 100% agree Darren. I’ve always learnt how to do things around the house so that I’m not dependent on folk for smaller jobs that I’d struggle to get a tradesman to do. The outcome is that my family see me as the person who can do whatever is needed.
Absolutely agree with your strategy. Jobs might go more slowly while your guys are learning (although waiting on subbies can also cost time), but as long as you follow the right processes and keep on top of quality, you'll create a much more efficient team. New technologies mean you don't need "time-served" tradesmen as much - only on restoration jobs would you need really skilled brickies, plasterers etc.
Speaking as somebody in construction I really wish more “contractors” had your attitude, approach, willingness to learn and ability to accept when mistakes are made and put them right - the industry would be a much better place 👍I do also agree if you can do as much as possible, in the long run it’s probably quicker and definitely cheaper when you factor in the ever increasing number of no-shows

Imagine if Charlie collision turned up. That would be epic! Darren and Charlie working together on same project 👍🍻🙏

Great job Darren. You have your own brickies you do not need those unreliable sub contractors
