i have a friend with a 2014 gt 86. Stock doesnt feel slow.. but needs a little bit of punch on the mid range. A golf gti feels much faster. Last year he did some mods to get rid of "torque dip" on the mid range, he put Tommei Unequal lenght headers, custom 2,5" exhaust, a cold air intake, lightweight perrin pulleys and a very good tune for 93 octane fuel. It started at 165 whp and 176nm torque (dont ask me how much it´s on lbs) and.. after that mods finished at 194whp and 203nm torque (238hp/235nm at the cranck). And most important, that "torque dip" totally desapeared. With the tune... it has 30% more torque in the same point on the worst part of that dip before tune. The car now feel MUCH FASTER, as fast or even faster than a stock mk7 golf gti on straight line (and thats not what i would call a slow car). It has 18" light wheels (like 5kg less per corner) and bridgestone potenzas re 760 235/35 r18. That also make a big difference. On the last trackday we went together, we where doing around the same time as stage 2 sciroccos with 300+ hp and slick tires, or megane Rs 265 tunned too. That speak about how amazing the gt 86 chassis is. With a set of good tires, a tune.. and exhaust it´s a TRACK MONSTER, fucking cars with 100+ more horspower. Im in love with that car, im working hard to get one, it´s a shame that here in argentina cost twice that in USA Sry for my english btw, not a native speaker.
Julian Grimoldi aha but you have to remember a gti comes stock with a turbo. While the brz is naturally aspirated, I’d be concerned if the gti wasn’t faster stock for stock with a turbo. But yes I agree that a couple mods are necessary to bring out some hidden potential in the subie
Everyone making fun of 205 hp, your not going full throttle with your 500 hp mustang with shitty handling are ya! If you are your the ones in a ditch, race a brz on a mountain and then make fun of our 200 hp at 2700 lbs
There is no real life situation where BRZ can be faster than mustang or simple bmw 3 series. Only on track. This car is jsut new fun car. Want proper car for daily and good handling? Get damn 3 series bmw, comfortable, quality, fast, good handling, perfect weight distribution, prestige etc. EVERYTHING to make fun and be comfortable and humble when driving calmly
Leo E36 almost took a e36 m3 running my stock frs was my 1st event out so i had to get a couple of passes before i even got a good one.... the e36 run was one of my worst launches but like the other guy said this car os far more enjoyable on a mountain road especially down hill where power isnt much of an issue with gravity doing its thing .... a faster car hits breaks harder longer... and arnt full throttle.. while i wont deny though that they can still leave me some if they know how to drive to begin with...
Funny that they chose Europe to show the car, where we're (sadly) not getting these performance updates. No updated engine, no shorter final drive. Great video, btw!
I like what he said about steering feel...its getting difficult to find a car that offers good steering feedback. I do not like electric power steering .
I agree the music is a bit too busy for me. on the plus side, Jeff, if you shape the stubble, I really think it suits you! (good riddance to the beard!)
Great video. This is a good update. The brakes are probably overkill but will be appreciated if the owner adds power. Still loving my FR-S after a year. Can't wait until the new track season. Oh, almost forgot, please tell me they fixed the infamous torque dip.
The only thing I've found to reduce the torque dip besides boosting the car is geting headers and exhaust and a tune. But thats going to cost 2,000 bucks plus.
rotary Bang at track days you can still easily get fade on a 200hp car if your a good or aggressive driver... upgraded brakes/pads and fluids are the most needed thing (and tires) on track. you can never have too much braking hardware
I just don't think this car is worth 30k. Way more options out there for that price. Yea I love my 10 series frs. But that price tag for the new one. Just not worth it to me
Its just the limited edition, I have a 16 brz premium and cost less to get my car new and add all of those mods than to buy the car. (800-1000 for preformance brakes, 1000-1500 for suspension upgrades, the clutch and steering adjustments are really minior and you could put new wheels and better tires for 800-1500 for real improvements.) then just get an exhaust and intake mod.
Lemans, Drive the 17. It is a far better car than the 16. Forget about the performance package. I am talking about the base 25k Premium. The headlights are better. Quicker steering, less understeer, batter highway stability, much smaller torque dip, revs quicker, better brake bias. Looks far better under the hood, sounds better and the stability control is far far less intrusive. I felt a difference 10 feet into my test drive.
Leman Russ True, but you also miss out on the new final gear and significant engine improvements. The changes to the engine were not strictly limited to the minor hp/tq increases. Moreso, the increases were more of a side effect of the general efficiency and rigidity improvements, as well as the improvements in the head for the revs.
It now costs $30k, is still woefully underpowered and is hamstrung by a set of Michelin Primacy tires. Sales are very low, I don't see this car lasting much longer.
ravenstylea2 i do get you point, It's just not a very good one. Simply because if you desire more grip, you can easily do so with a tire swap. Whereas the brakes and dampers are much more expensive to upgrade.
Benedict L i disagree with you. Simply, "Performance Packages" are just that. When you tick that option box, Prius tires don't belong there. Simply swapping tires is not something that should be required off the lot.
If Subaru not consistent increases its power, even to lower their weight by about 400 kg (800 pounds) :-) ... and it would be another car ... in my dreams ... hehehe
Seriously? Still now power upgrade? I'm going to need a new car within a year or so but if Subaru refuses to add more power I'm just going to buy a focus st
Carguments it's louder than he is. I'm all for having it there but the levels need to come down. we want to hear what he is saying, not the beat in the background. that being said, hooniverse is great and that's really the only thing I can complain about.

Great video... Except that music is horribly at odds with the rest of what's going on.
Damn, he talked straight from beginning to end. I couldn't Shazam that song
Everyone making fun of 205 hp, your not going full throttle with your 500 hp mustang with shitty handling are ya! If you are your the ones in a ditch, race a brz on a mountain and then make fun of our 200 hp at 2700 lbs

Leo E36 you sir are incorrect with everything you said.
I watched the video where you made a comparison between the BRZ and the new Miata. Because of you, I picked the the BRZ too :D
Great video man. Nailed the changes in the car. You need more views!
I love my 2014, wanna try the 17!
Funny that they chose Europe to show the car, where we're (sadly) not getting these performance updates. No updated engine, no shorter final drive. Great video, btw!
What's up with the background video game music?
I dislike his blouse more than the music.
Going for that Initial D style
Well done, keep em coming.
Still waiting on an STI version
With an FA20 out of the WRX.
Never happening...
isnt wrx fa20 same as in gt86? how come one in wrx makes 250+ bhp?
Kalasha001 one in wrx is a 2.5 and handles boost good
Great video man
I like what he said about steering feel...its getting difficult to find a car that offers good steering feedback. I do not like electric power steering .
how to the brakes compare to stock - does it stop any quicker?
I agree the music is a bit too busy for me. on the plus side, Jeff, if you shape the stubble, I really think it suits you! (good riddance to the beard!)
Great video. This is a good update. The brakes are probably overkill but will be appreciated if the owner adds power. Still loving my FR-S after a year. Can't wait until the new track season.
Oh, almost forgot, please tell me they fixed the infamous torque dip.
cerberus65 they didn't
The torque dip won't be going anywhere. It 'improves drivability' for your average driver.
cerberus65 you can still see the torque dip on the simulated Dino graph in the dash 😂
Oh wow, didn't notice that. Good catch.
The only thing I've found to reduce the torque dip besides boosting the car is geting headers and exhaust and a tune. But thats going to cost 2,000 bucks plus.
No conclusion in the end?
definitely becoming a cooler and cooler car.. the brakes alone are worth it
Shahul Usman why need upgraded brakes when running less than 200hp to the wheels and with shitty economy tires
rotary Bang at track days you can still easily get fade on a 200hp car if your a good or aggressive driver... upgraded brakes/pads and fluids are the most needed thing (and tires) on track. you can never have too much braking hardware
Finals thoughts on the performance package?
Dampers, Brakes, and the relaxed traction control add up to a fun time for under 30k.
need thicker tires to take advantage of those big brakes
or at least much stickier ones
Some nice updates to bad I'm committed to my 2015 due to miles lol
whats the music called anyway?
4:00 did I just hear a snap crackle and pop
Were there any improvements done to the toyota and scion versions too?
Bastian Ruz Yes, Toyota got the same updates. Scion is no longer.
Ah ok, thanks!
Is it a better investment than a used frs with how cheap they are becoming
brandon maxwell Hell no
yes
I just don't think this car is worth 30k. Way more options out there for that price. Yea I love my 10 series frs. But that price tag for the new one. Just not worth it to me

The 10 series 28K right?

chris huntly i for one...want a lotus elise, worth it for 30k
Interior and brakes...
...BRZ > 86
Good video. Get rid of the music.
needs a quad turbo
It now costs $30k, is still woefully underpowered and is hamstrung by a set of Michelin Primacy tires. Sales are very low, I don't see this car lasting much longer.
Fred Garvin THEY NEED TO FIX THE TIRE ISSUE
You gonna eat your words orrrrrrrr
brush i thought u were a blouse and this music. chillax on the music
you get all 205 HP lmao!!!
The performance package model still comes with the economy Prius tires lol. What a fail.
ravenstylea2 Try to grasp this wonderful thing called a "tire swap".
Benedict L no isht Sherlock. You didn't get my point.
ravenstylea2 i do get you point, It's just not a very good one. Simply because if you desire more grip, you can easily do so with a tire swap. Whereas the brakes and dampers are much more expensive to upgrade.

yaaay less top,end with shorter gests
True but it's 205hp, there's no top end.
Seriously? Still now power upgrade? I'm going to need a new car within a year or so but if Subaru refuses to add more power I'm just going to buy a focus st
What's with people always complaining about the music?
Carguments it's louder than he is. I'm all for having it there but the levels need to come down. we want to hear what he is saying, not the beat in the background. that being said, hooniverse is great and that's really the only thing I can complain about.
Sorry could not watch due to the background music. Edit it out then we can try this again
I wish they made a STI awd version
Brandon Chavez awd? Kindof dumb for a brz
Second
Fine if you are in yourup. I hate it when Americans say zed just bugs me for some reason. It’s Zee dammit lol
Give up to watch.
I am first
