Back when the real enemy was the devil and the real heroes liberated the hungry and the starving from hell on earth. Back when heroism was killing a demon.

A little surprised this hasn't been noted already - but this is the great ROBERT MERRILL singing, Merrill Miller was one of his early stage names.
i really find this national anthem very beautiful 2nd to my country's. And I memorized this since I was a 5th grader. Loving it from the Philippines =)

@Travis Walsh That notion was sadly sought in the Cold War.

We have decended into such dark depths, those who heard this then would have disowned us.
Those were pre-World War II US Army uniforms. Search your browser for "Uniforms of the United States Army 1939." One Website states, "some units were still using pre-war equipment in 1945 while other units had the latest issue."
Probably interwar army training footage.
My dad was drafted into the US Army in January 1941 in the first draft. He was sent to Fort Ord, California. His division (the 7th) was equipped with all new stuff, eg. M1 Garands and WWII uniforms. Other units they maneuvered against were equipped with WWI gear. There weren't enough tanks so they had trucks with "Tank" signs running around.
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?🇺🇸🎼🎵🎶🎙😔
I like these versions. Newer versions add unnecessary elongated versions which I really hate.
No I can't xD
I’ve finally found this version of the US national anthem.
After literal MONTHS of looking for it, I finally found it!
Lily Marlene was a German song that was equally popular in English to both the Allies and the Germans. It is a forgotten fact of history that it was the one song that was being sung by Germans, British and American solders at the same time. Everybody performed it; USA: Dinah Shore, Margaret Whiting, Marlene Dietrich, Vaughn Monroe, Bing Crosby, and many others. UK: Vera Lynn, Gracie Fields, and others. Germany: Marlene Dietrich (Until she was banned) and many other German performers.
Merrill Miller was Robert Merrill.
I Love this song!
AWESOME
I love it !
good song
I'm fascinated
Me too sir!
Or the land of the free and the home of the brave
Really beautiful?
Loving??
Awesome???
This godlike creation is not worthy of being praised with frugal and prosaic words.
This melody is out of this world, it turns everything that is a legacy of human thinking on its head.
Merrill Miller, born Moishe Miller, later to change his name to Robert Merrill and become arguably America's greatest operatic baritone of the 20th century...
Beautiful
agreed
God bless Amerika
Great singer! No wonder... It’s Robert Merrill himself!
Good old day's
America is sooooooooooooooo great^^
NOTE: The Video from B&W (Black and White) in 16mm.
This makes me think how America could just go back to the old times
I don't. We need to go forward not backward to a time where women queer and POC were second class citizens

USA NATIONAL ANTHEM 1991 NBC
Perhaps it was Lily Marlene;captured German troops would be forced to sing it.The only rendition I know was done by Vera Lynn-a British songstress during and after WW 2.
Actually it was a song that came out in the late 30's and has the distinction of being popular with the allies and the Germans. Marlene Dietrich sang it in both languages. In 1942 Hitler offered her to come to Germany but she very publicly insulted him than started working feverishly in the USO entertaining our troops. Lily Marlene was the one song allied and axis had in common during the war. It wasn't as popular with the US solders as it was with the Brits but nevertheless it was known by all.
Right ! I forgot about Marlene Dietrich ;my bad! Appreciate the memory jog
Me when i hear the word "Atom"
