    Brilliant... Thought i was the only one having it!!! I had recorded it on a tape from BBC 3, while in UK, as a postgraduate student. Glad that you can find it here, because, besides the theme and the research, is an amazing structured radio documentary.... Thanks

    I have this original poster. Numbered and signed by the artist. ' WES". I bought it in San Francisco in 1984. It is my prized possession.

      As a teenager I went to this show at the Fillmore. Didn't understand then why he spent his show reading from law books and getting into the arcane aspects of his cases. I wanted to hear his "stuff". I eventually understood of course. Lenny Bruce helped me along the way toward thinking for myself. Bless you, Lenny.

    Dick Gregory: "This guy (Lenny) is the eighth wonder of the world... and if they don't kill him or if they don't put him in jail, he's liable to shake up this whole fucking country"
    well the powers to be, effectively did both

    This is infinitely better than the film documentaries made about Lenny...Although, Bob Weide's Swear to Tell the Truth is brilliant.

    Thank you for posting. Lenny is the single biggest force in creating what came 20, 30, and 40+ years after. Genius.

    You can hear the influence he had on Carlin. You can't kill an idea.

    • @straypigs
      @straypigs 3 роки тому +2

      And Pryor. Pryor was a huge fan of Lenny. "You should have seen Lenny." are the words his daughter quotes him as saying to her in awe. You can totally hear it in both of those guys. Both Carlin and Pryor were straight comedians who worked the same exact clubs, were admirers of Lenny, and also who took acid about the same time. Both of their acts "deepened" and got more outrageous at the same exact time, in Lenny's wake. I always say Pryor and Carlin finished the job Lenny started.

      I think a lot of entertainers have a style of mannerisming and cadence and real good substance for their audience to enjoy as they wish and can just flow with it
      that makes lenny bruce in my book
      I've never seen or heard anything like before I heard this right here
      Lol this is literally where it's at
      Lenny bruce is an all time classic right up there with Abraham Lincoln in my book

    I was 14 years old when I bought my 1st Bruce album and he was already dead. That's how I found out about him in my home town, 'John Birch.' I heard he was different and had problems with the law, he cussed and he made funny jokes...., I had to own his albums. There weren't a lot of albums either or maybe they were out of print, but what ever I saw I bought.
    Bruce was hard to understand because unlike Texas he had an accent & I didn't get every word he said, and talked fast. So I had to listen to the 'Long Ranger' over and over and over again. Or I'd laugh laugh laughing about the guy that pissing the sink, or the songs or word poetry like the story about the Black boy never being hurt because of a word
    .... To 14 year old it was pretty powerful stuff.

    It almost sounds like it, but he just left it hanging (making it just sound like an empty racist rant), and dropped the ball.
