Once had a Brit Minor single cylinder marine engine with a Lucas SR Mag, Some years later while working on the old RAF Sharjah in the UAE I pulled open the engine cowl of a twin Otter aircraft which had been there for nearly 20 years and was falling to bits. This also had a Lucas SR Mag. Cant remember if it was 4 or 6 cylinders, but if memory serves me well there 2 per engine. Fine pieces of kit! Thank you for posting.

Twin Otter or a Twin Pioneer? Always two magnetos on aircraft engines, and two plugs per pot, fancy some Shackleton pilot asking for a complete plug change before tiffin. I really ought to get that engine installed in something, with the mag back on, and have it running!

Yep, no 'dirt' on the rotor, looks like a factory recon unit. But, equally possible that it was 'brand new' old stock. I dare say that there is still a Government store full of them, and this was an 'Army' engine.

I promised myself that I wouldn't make any Lucas Electric joke here, so I won't.
    (Patting myself on the back.)

I preferred it to Miller electrics, but it was 'of it's time'.
    Lucas mags are pretty robust.

I'd say it's a half spanner now! Looks like someone freshened up that mag not long ago...

(speaking for my granddad, who is rebuilding an Austin 12/4): would you know if it's possible to obtain the driving gear and the driven gear with rotor arm attached? If that makes sense

All thing are possible, it is just a question of how difficult it is to find one. I regret that I am not an Austin expert, but old British motors tended to have the same components, start by looking up the part number, and see what else uses it. And go to lots of autojumbles!

Thanks for the reply. We ask on this video because we own exactly the same magneto model.

I wonder what other 4 cylinder engines use this type of mag. The other possibility is that the parts you want may have been used on other magnetos, Lucas made mags for twin and single cylinder engines that all had the same cases and castings, sometimes they had slightly different fixings. Good luck with your search.
