I first stumbled on Jimmy back in the day as he was jamming on a little pontoon stage on the Seine in front of Chez Fernand at the Samois Django festival. He was probably less than 10 years old and like the other passers by around me I was gobsmacked to hear how incredibly precocious this kid was and he too was clearly excited to have the admiration from all these adults. But a bit later in the day I also happened to notice him being a normal mischievous kid, messing around with a little rowboat with his friends not far from the main stage while no one from their entourage was supervising them. He seemed to be having a grand old time...I wonder if Jimmy remembers his early youth fondly. 🤷
Awesome to see a recovered Jimmy and still a beast. Fame almost killed him, he is living his best now. He can pick and choose where, when and whom to work with. No greedy promotional company over working him, and taking more than agreeded. ( a great talent still with).
Response, to Mr. J.Larsen. In my comment, I never mentioned any names. In the many yrs since the documentary, many people in the music business shared harsh opinions on what may have gotten Jimmy to that place. Speculations based on little information and stupidity is not good enough for me. I respect your work and appreciate how you anwsered the comment. The tragedies of his father doing time for protecting his daughter and causing his absence, left no winners. Iam certain he would have protected Jimmy from all that. Jimmy's net worth is reported at 1.5mil. I will apologize to his management. Many are left penniless. My only concern at that time was Jimmy's recovery, how persistence to see him and showing up with a filming crew may have not been the best for his recovery. The intent may have been noble to help make stronger. But his pain was big, and he keeped running away. And that homicidal attemp reported, shocked everyone. At the end Stochelo did the concert and it all went well. Not blaming anyone, lam 100% certain you did your best to protect him. That was my only concern back then. At the end of all this, he has money to get by and do his music when every he wants. And he has you to be thankful. Iam happy see him back.
@@JonLarsenHCR I recently watched Jon and Jimmy and I thought you came across as an incredibly kind, thoughtful, compassionate and genuine person, as well as extremely talented. I am not a stranger to the issues that are brought up in the doc, both from yours and Jimmy’s side of the story, and I know first hand how difficult it can be to deal with someone with an addiction. You clearly went above and beyond to help your friend but ultimately people have to do it for themselves. Huge respect to you.
@@JonLarsenHCR Jon, I am a recovering addict, 10 years clean, and I just wanted to say you were an amazing friend to Jimmy. The only thing you did wrong was trusting a person you loved who happened to be in the throes of addiction with obvious mental health issues. I was Jimmy, for 3 horrible years, unfortunately I wound up hurting the people who loved me the most. You obviously love and respect Jimmy.
Lol mobile phones recording 60% of them are not there, while these masters are performing they record planning what they will edit, when to post the video, how many likes they will get on the social fucking media, 20% are actually listening, no hand claps in the rhythm. Artificial intelligence audience witnessing human art.
lol Dude they're just normal people who want to capture the moment. I highly doubt they're "planning" out how they will post it to social media. But please do go ahead and drone on about the "artificial intelligence" people witnessing "human" art. lol you goddamn dweeb
You may risk becoming a bitter man i 40 years time. I warn you, it's not getting better, so you might as well accept it, and focus on enjoying your own life. It will feel much better, I promise.
Absolutely. It's tragic the way people just live through their devices now. But I agree with Espen Dahl Andersen that you have to kind of accept it. You can even pity such people. Not only are they not really there, as you say, but none of them will ever be able to acquire a skill like, say, musicianship. The internet has ruined more things than it has improved, IMO, but it has also shown that the vast majority are desperate to get some sort of recognition from other without doing anything to earn it save for owning a mobile phone. Just sit back and enjoy being superior to them.
Tschavolo plays way too loud.Jimmy is humoring him but seems pretty bored.Django was sick of la pompe gypsy jazz rhythm towards the early 1950's and mentioned this to Stefan grappeli.Django wished he could go to Brazil where the REAL music was being played.Perhaps he was reborn in Brazil.Apart from Jimmy, Bireli & Stochelo they all sound the same.

Which "greedy promotional company" do you have in mind? "Over working him, and taking more than agreeded"? Looking forward to your answer.

Haha, Tchavolo plays so hard and as a result his guitar is more beaten up than any other Selmer style guitar I see these guys playing.
Μπράβο ρε πατριώτες.
Nice time
Yes it was!
Joe Pesci is killin’ it!
Actually joe pesci is reputedly an excellent jazz guitarist... but yeah...
De jó
I wouldn’t necessarily include Biréli in that list, he’s far more adept at a variety of styles.
what is the name of this tune?
It is Django Reinhardt song called "Swing Guitars"
@GianCompuesto very appreciate, bty do you know how to play the chords of this sng?

Ahh sorry Django Reinhardt Festival at samois sur seine june 2022
Y a Albator derrière Jimmy
GypsyKings
Great to see him playing but his eyes tells us that the fire is not burning that strong anymore. He is surviving, not enjoying.
I don't agree, they get the groove, but you don't feel it.
Whoever messed with jimmy and made him an addict should rot in hell. Love u jimmy
James Brown ?
Djimmy
Jimmy should be at Carnegie Hall, not in some pub....
Tchavolo Schmitt fait trop de bruit, comme d'habitude.

Rhythm guitar playing lead?
Just kidding.

Where you getting this from about Django? Sounds made up to be honest.
Sounds great to me. Loud and a little messy and ppl talking in the background that's real gypsy jazz right here
Obviously the audience prefer the sound of their own voices over this "crap" music !
No big deal the same old riffs.
Boring)
Certo che per fare il video, quelle bottiglie di birra e il rotolo di carta igienica li potevano pure togliere...
