- Learning English from native English speakers is so helpful as you continue on your English learning journey. I thought it would be fun if I tried to find some other English speakers to be in my video so that you could hear someone else's voice for a change.
I made a sign asking for help, and went down to the local grocery store to see if I could find people to talk to.
I found 18 people who wanted to help, and I asked them about Christmas! It was so awesome and I'm excited to share it with you.

Hi, Bob the Canadian here! I thought it would be fun for you guys to learn a little bit more about Christmas, but to learn it from other people.
So I made this sign, it says, “Hi! I make UA-cam videos to help people learn English. I’m making one about Christmas! Would you like to be in it?”
And I went down to the local grocery store and I stood outside for a few hours and I just asked other Canadians what they liked about Christmas. So in this video you’ll learn some English from me, and you’ll learn some English from some other Canadians at the same time. I hope you enjoy it!

So like I said we’re going to hear from a bunch of different Canadians telling you why they like Christmas. I hope you can understand someone speaking English who’s not me. Let’s get started.

Alanna, and Alanna what is one of your favourite things about Christmas?
Of course getting together with family, with family awesome, and do you have any unique Christmas tradition?
Our Christmas tradition as a family is on Christmas Eve we always watch, “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2”.
So you watch a movie together, that’s awesome. Thank you very much can you say, “Merry Christmas”

Hey, I’m here with… John. John, and John I’m just going to ask you a couple of questions. What do you like about Christmas?
The best part about Christmas is getting together with your family. Ah yes. It’s not about the presents, it’s about everybody being together. It’s having a happy day. Yeah, having a happy day. Second question, does your family do anything fun, is there a tradition that you guys do for Christmas that’s unique or just….
Nah, everybody usually comes to our house. My parents come down, in-laws come down, everybody comes to our house… Yep… make sure everybody’s well fed. Big meal? All the fixins’ Always all the fixin’s. Very cool. Well thank you very much. Have a great day. No problem. Thank you. Have a Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas!

I'm from China, here some of young people also celebrate the festival of Christmas. Plus, I'm good at cooking Chinese food, I'm progressing a lot recently. The specific traditions are not important, spending time with family and enjoying this time is wonderful. Marry Christmas, Bob, have good time

Hi Bob the Canadian, what a great idea you had making this video! I'll pass it on to a few EFL students I know - I'm sure it will be appreciated as it's a "real talk" episode - priceless to have passers by sharing thoughts about Christmas from a Canadian city.
I think I introduced myself in another video - I'm Elena, a Canadian by choice (born and raised in another country but I lived half of my life in Canada ). I had to come back to my native country for various reasons and I miss Canada A LOT - and this is an understatement!
Funny thing, I'd never paid much attention to Christmas in my earlier life, but I rediscovered the celebration as a "meaningful" season years ago when I attended Christmas Eve concerts, chanting and reflection at the United Church in Vancouver -- it was a precious event and I miss it a lot. I also miss the various community events of the Season - from Community Centres to Seniors Xmas lunches or various neingbourhood festivities.
Watching Canadians sharing their thoughts in front of a "no-frill" store (I miss them for sure!!) was a bit like "being there". I hope I can return one day. Thanks again, your material is awesome! Warm wishes for the New Year to you, your folks and your students!!
