  • I might be a little late talking about planners for 2023, but if you don't have a fountain pen friendly planner yet, the Leuchtturm1917 2023 Weekly Planner & Notebook is a great option. It provides a project/habit tracker, plenty of space for notes, and a bunch of other features that make it a great option. It has the same durability and ink friendly paper as the popular Leuchtturm1917 notebooks.

    The extra booklet contains a birthday calendar and an adressbook … very old school 😀 But that‘s how our calendars came before iPhone & Co 😅

    i’ve been thinking of buying a notebook from this brand for a while but i’ve been hesitant since they’re expensive. this video convinced me to buy it 💪 thank you

      Cool! Now that it's been a while, I'm assuming you have one now. What do you think?

    Good to know someone else is not sure exactly how to use that lunar moon one-line date portion that comes after the 3 year past-current-future calendar pages. I have Molesking notebooks & found certain pen inks bleed & run through the pages, more so with using highlighters on them. But even without highlighters the ink bleeds (not using fountain pens, just regular ballpoint or gel ink pens).

      Thanks for your comment. I have very strong opinions of Moleskine notebooks (they suck) haha. Luechtturm1917 makes similar products but with much better paper and build quality.

      I concur. I have since switched over to Leuchtturm1917

    My favourite planner! I love the layout. I will use it for 2024 as well but contemplating if i should size up to B5 or not. Unsure if the ruling/paper is different in the larger size.
    I actually use the planner more like a "chore planner" than anything. I use the 'notebook page' as a weekly to-do and appointment notes.
    I suspect that the A5 size forces me to keep my to-do list relatively short so it might do me a huge favour. 😂

      I'm loving mine and will probably get one for 2024. I hadn't even considered going up a size. I might need to do that, because mine fills up so fast and becomes utter chaos.

    I love that brand; I use the journals all the time. The booklet in the back was a future logbook for future events and appointments, etc... and the calendar in the front of the planner was a perpetual calendar, just FYI. Thanks for the review, I ended up getting the Happy Planner and it does the basic work, but I also use a bullet journal for my notes and other writings. Hope this helps you find your planner very useful.

    Nope, never too late. Just now getting around to deciding if I'm going to do a planner for 2024 LOL!

    I realize you’re many months into this now, but my first thought with the extra notebook would be to use it as an index. I take lots of notes on my right-hand pages throughout the year but sometimes have a hard time locating them related to specific projects.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  10 місяців тому +1

      Good idea! Fortunately my notes usually only pertain to a specific week, but I'll have to keep this in mind if I change that.

  • @pensane

    The month at a glance in the extra booklet could be used for important dates or holidays to remember. The alphabetical tabbed section could be used for passwords or something pen or ink related. I’ve been curious about their thinner B6 journal. I hate bulky journals with glue binding that don’t lay flat.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  Рік тому

      This one lays flat! And those are some good points. I guess that extra notebook could come in handy as something you could take out at the end of the year and put in your next planner.

    Usually, I use Moleskine, decided to go with Leuchtturm this year...but...ordered the planner only by mistake. It's fine as a planner but I sure miss that ruled page to write about the week.

    Thank you for this video! I had been using a Moleskine planner and thinking about switching to Leuchtturm1917, but I couldn't really tell from just looking at pictures on amazon of the layout. Your video was exactly what I needed to see. Moleskine planners have a LOT of useless pages at the beginning, and the paper is thinner (70 g/m2). I have used L1917 notebooks in the past, they are always good quality.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  7 місяців тому +2

      Glad I could help! Yeah, I used a couple of Moleskine notebooks years ago as I was transitioning into fountain pens. I will never go back. From my experience, Leuchtturm1917 has better paper and build quality than Moleskine, and if I'm not mistaken they are similarly priced.

    I saw these at my local Blick's Art Supply store today. I examined them but chose to buy something else. I don't like that off-white or cream colored paper.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  Рік тому +2

      Yeah, some fountain pen people like white paper, some like cream colored paper. I'm not sure what I prefer yet. I think I just like what I haven't used in a while. Haha

    You know they have leuchtturm 1917 a5 notebooks with 120gm paper. Better paper quality than Rodia and Clairefontaine.

    Nice review. Does this one come in soft version as well? I assume its better then Moleskine Wekkly.

      I recall seeing a softcover option when I was shopping for a planner for 2024. I'm not sure if it has the same page payout. Leuchtturm paper is 100 times better than Moleskine paper.

    I bought this and very disappointed. Most of the print is so faint I can't read it without a spotlight shining on the page. The tracker pages are useless for this reason. Wish it had the traditional monthly layout as well. Back to searching for a good planner.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  Рік тому

      Sorry it's been a disappointment. I love mine. I guess everyone has their own unique preferences.

    • @InnerProp
      @InnerProp Рік тому

      I agree. I was disappointed at no traditional monthly layout. The project planner pages are lined too tightly too. The layout they do have is mostly useless. I also wish it had lined perforated pages at the back in case I need extra room in a week. I saw a different review of this notebook and I guess it used to come with a template for lined or grid paper (since I don't like the blank pages at the back), but mine didn't.
      I feel like I'm sort of stuck with this for the year, but I did get it at half price since I bought it in March.
      Anybody have any other recommendations? Is there an A4 version of this with more space?

      @@InnerPropHave a look at the Hobonichi range - its a bit confusing at first because of the different formats and daily/weekly/monthly options and combinations, but their layouts are extremely versatile that you can use it in a multitude of ways. I have bought two different planners from them for 2024 and these are my first, but the reviews look great and the paper is supposed to be fantastic quality too. They are not cheap though, but totally worth every penny imho.

    I dont like those one line per day spreads (a year on four sides). At first glance they look kinda useful, but I just don’t see a purpose for them. One year I decided to put all my birthdays and special events down, but then I had one day with 3 birthdays and I simply couldn’t fit them in. They could be used with planner sticky dots, but I still can’t think how that would be of any real use in practice.
    One thing I really hate about this planner though is the small space they give to the weekends. I have the most things going on in the weekends. Clearly this planner is for work use - for those people who only work weekdays and don’t do anything productive in the weekends. There are so many people who work weekends these days or have different days off, or like me don’t work at all so every day needs an equal amount of space. It is definitely not designed for this era. A big thumbs down from me.

    • @DowntheBreatherHole
      @DowntheBreatherHole  8 місяців тому +1

      I get those complaints. It's actually really common, though, for the weekend to be smaller in a planner. This isn't the first one I've had that has used this format. I think getting seven days onto one page is tricky. To give them all the same space, you'd have to make them kind of narrow. But I get how this format wouldn't be ideal for those with lots of appointments or work stuff on the weekends, like a wedding photographer, for example. A workaround is to use the ruled page on the right for things that won't fit in the boxes for Saturday and Sunday.

      Sometimes I might go overboard with the chit-chat, but I'm not just here to talk about a product. I'm here to talk to my viewers, especially my subscribers. That said, I do plan to streamline my videos more carefully in the future. But at least some of the chit-chat is here to stay. If you're not a fan of that, I'm sure there are other UA-cam channels that talk about fountain pens and paper that would be better suited to your preferences.
