You don't necessarily need them, if their ideas, that are their heritage, could be evolved further and understood deep/thoroughly enough to do so. Their "job" was to introduce it to us and "ignite" our "Flames of Inspiration" - that they have beautifully succeeded in. Yet, to corrupt these ideas instead of cultivating them, would - and probably will - lead the Game's Company into its economic downfall. A brilliant and Epic Idea such as this can attract enough people to create what looks like an entire "movement", if properly nurtured and cultivated. But the delicate steps to do so are far from being able to be sustainably implemented in our current short-term-profit-driven System of Economy, that we have right now. If the currency were - much like in Star Trek maybe - "discovering and cultivating one's own talents as part of contributing them in their best-possible way to Society and Humankind as a whole under the Principles of Human Rights", for example, that might be less destructive/detrimental to such an Idea. But establishing that will need a lot of painful changes, that most of Humankind is far from ready to endure. Yet: change is inevitable as Reality quite recently has shown us with increasing pace and intensity, i.m.h.o. So, all is not lost quite yet - but the chances of hitting a "Great Filter" (as described in "Fermi's Paradox") are increasing as is the pace of change, i.m.h.o. because we seem to lose track of something extremely important: the fact, that cooperation - not competition to the death (only playful/sportive one!) - has enabled us to flourish this far. Opposing - reactionary/medievalist - forces might have strengthened the decisiveness and realizations of what is needed in order to persist, but in the end, only cooperation (even with those opposing forces at times - sometimes turning enemies into allies even in the process - the best way to "eliminate" an "enemy", i.m.h.o. ... make them your ally in a greater goal, that can only be achieved by cooperation!) has allowed us to evolve and outgrow past limitations (in thinking as well as in doing/acting). We utterly *need each other* - for so many reasons...and we can thrive and be our most powerful and productive when we feel our most fundamental physical needs are met, but also the our emotional, social and human needs, that are rooted in our consciousness/psyche/"souls"/"spirits"! And ignoring the latter while expecting us to "function" like Robots, can never lead to a more evolved state, but to stagnation and death/extinction only. All this is why I loved to play EVE in the early days, btw. and this kind of "magic" it sadly has lost for most of its latter years...I can still project it onto/into the "World" it is right now, but it feels hollow and empty really - I wish I could do something to re-ignite this though, but the conditions needed for it seem utterly far away and too "uncertain" for any "investor" to risk their money on these days. Visions and ideas are hard to keep because they're so illusive and need us to be quite vulnerable all/most of the time in order to perceive them with all of our being - for this to be capable of we need to open all our being and the vulnerability involved in that process attracts extremely destructive and corruptive forces, that seek to "suck the Life out of these easily accessible beings" - yet over-protection usually also leads to this kind of ending sooner or later, too. Finding a balance in everything seems like the logical thing to seek, but actually doing this is hard work, I found - and needs awareness, that only highly sensitive Empaths are capable of - and yet, these are usually hard to find in any corporation because they're the first to be getting (mentally and physically) ill when the conditions change to be slightly more "unsafe" for them or their talent and the conditions it needs to thrive are not willing to be "nurtured" enough because it's "too expensive" these days... Usually exceptionally ideas need exceptional processes to flourish - we've seen it countless of times when these ideas were destructive to our kind/Species throughout Human History. It would be a really great change, if we could do something about creating the conditions needed to let the more creative and constructive ideas flourish far better again than is currently done anywhere, i.m.h.o.!
I played Eve for the first time in 2003 and it felt so heavenly and majestic. There were only 4 classes of ships. Frigates, Cruisers, Battleships and Haulers. The magic that you felt back then had sadly been lost.

WOW this actually tells the backstory of EVE the exact way I tell it to any friends that don't know anything about EVE. This is fantastic! Bring this back!
The last four sentences are the deepest, and most emotional I've ever heard either in a videogame, or in any kind of intro. In either literal, or metaphorical ways, but it sums up what should humanity, and the individual person should thrive for. And that's the most important.
finally i found it :) This is my ONE AND ONLY intro to eve. It is probably the best intro´s into a sci-fi universe i´ve ever seen as it is so dark and so damn true to the nature of mankind! Badly they removed it. But eve already lost a bit of its former soul so this was not surprising. Anyway this trailer reminds me of the good old days in new eden and therefore i just bookmarked it! :)
***** Or, perhaps since the races of New Eden survived and thrived we could assume that those in our galaxy did as well. And since the races of New Eden were still colonists when the gate collapsed, we could presume that those in our galaxy would have started off far more advanced than those on the other side of the gate who had to start fresh. And if we follow that train of thought, one could argue that those in our galaxy would use that technology to try to find their brothers and sisters. However, knowing that no human would be able to make the trip themselves without a stable wormhole, they may have created a race of machines and sent them to the various galaxies for the purpose of searching for the lost civilizations of New Eden. Supposing all of that, one could say that it's a possibility that while the races of New Eden were sill planet bound, or when they had just started exploring the stars again, one of these advanced robots reached this galaxy and began replicating for the purpose of exploring the galaxy to find us. Once they found us, they would have sent a signal back to Earth explaining our status. However, on finding out that the galaxy was in a state of perpetual war, those back on Earth might not have wanted to make contact for fear of hostile response. So perhaps they instructed the robots to quarantine themselves in some zone of the galaxy and sleep until the conflicts had died down to the point where contact could be made again. Now supposing all of that... one could say that when the galaxy reached a certain state of prosperity, the sleepers might wake up and contact Earth. During that time one could assume that civilization had advanced to the point they could open a stable Wormhole or use some other technology like a massive Stargate to bridge the void between the galaxies. Opening such a gate would probably result in a massive cosmic anomoly that could be visible light years away. With the new gate open, the sleeping robots might be activated and begin re-observing our races to see where we are at, sampling our technology in order to report accurately back to earth. ... or you know... something like that #emergingthreats #tinfoilhat
Eve is a magnificent game in many ways. But to be honest, no trailer makes Eve feel and sound more mysterious and creepy, than this original trailer does. It gives me the creeps to some degree, telling us just how unpredictable and scary the universe can be. I just wish there was a littlebit more to the game, zones where one could walk with character. Like... bar, cantinas, social places. I know it is a thing of the past, when it was attempted, but god almighty... with that, I think Eve Online would be perfect.
I quit EVE a year ago, but it was the best MMO I ever played, three years of pure fun and moments of awe. I remember when I first signed up for the trial and saw this intro, I actually think my jaw dropped. Fantastic, inspiring, beautiful storyline and universe. Thanks CCP
Eve Online, I am not playing it anymore, but it is by far the most interesting MMO created. I only wish it had more RP elements, cause the background story, the races and all, is amazingly well crafted.
This intro is why im still playing EVE in 2023 hoping for it to bloom like in the times of the great fountain war. Anyways, shivers going out my back. Training my character 24/7 from the Beta times till the introduction of skill injectors.
I love this old intro, specially now that we have a new trailer that hooks into this one and bassically somewhat redoes this one, though the new trailer does "forget" to mention many of the tidbits mentioned here, though the new trailer does show more of what the capsuleer is.
So simple graphically, essentially a series of still images with some lighting and bloom effects, yet so powerful and alluring a storyline for the game itself. The intro cutscenes for EVE Online have come a long way since this one, but it is still the best in my opinion.
Thats what makes it so much "better" than a few other games. It has depth, you've got do your homework ask around and give it a few tries. If you sign up for the 14day trial. Use it to your benefit. Play every free time there is, and you'll grow to love it.
This has got to be the best trailer EVE has ever had (or will ever have). Oh, how I wish we could return to the Milky Way to see what's left of our ancestors.
@Puzzoozoo If I read your statement right, yeah, EVE ships can travel to earth in small amount of time, but the problem is the destination lock. that is required to warp. You cant warp without destination. Same thing as jumping with Caps. they need Cyno in the destination system taht works as like "beacon" or "Lighthouse" to cap's jump drives to lock in.
This needs to be a Movie put into production by the likes of Peter Jackson or James Cameron. Obviously, it would help the popularity of the game. I think there is material here which could be a very interesting, even a profound exposition of human nature. I love the game but do not have the time. I hope they can find more success .
@FinALIEN93 If by "small amount of time" you mean at least 3 years, then yes. "Locking on" isn't actually a requirement for jump drives in the story of Eve. Players do have to lock on (perhaps for such short notice jumps?). However, despite all that I still think it is entirely improbable to find earth in any reasonable amount of time as it would be roughly 4 minutes per light year, at minimum, according to 'Old Man Star'; hence the 3 years it would take (assuming it was further than Andromeda)
Actually, one of the theories is that EVE had apperently reopenned before mankind found its way back into space. Supposedly all of the electromagentic storms emmiting from it are coming through the gate. And on one of the scientific articles it talks about a gigantic stargate hull surrounding EVE, suggesting it was turned into a stargate before it actually collapsed.
@Puzzoozoo they say "when stargates couldn't take them further" that has to mean that they could travel between stars in the galaxy but no further, and going to another place in the galaxy is hardly going across the universe. its like saying "I'm going across town" and ending up in your front yard, with more than billion Galaxies in the observable universe
So, after the original EvE wormhole collapsed, presumably there were still warring corporations left in humanity's original star systems, right? I wonder if these are what eventually became the Triglavians.. or the Drifters for that matter?
That's probably one of the 3 most epic intros I've ever seen... It's sad that it's gone from the game but I think the new one does a better job at describing the game itself.
@Helge129 In the sense that a fight is predetermined based on what gear you have and what character skills are applicable. It's not as involved as I would want it to be. But then it may be more my thing when we get a real flesh and bone character to play as inside the EvE universe, which is definitely impressive.
@TheShadowNemesis If you can take the slow pace of the game, I think you'll find a gem. Fleet combat is a spectacle, & the very real risks involved in combat (compared to most other mmos that spawn you at a graveyard nearby) keep you engaged. If you die, you lose your ship, everything on it, and the time that went into acquiring it. Many of the top-tier ships are verrry hard to replace, and take weeks if not months of time to grind for cash to acquire, every fight makes your palms sweat.
Wow and EVE are both different games respectably. I've played both, and yeah, they're both awesome. EVE is a little more open ended, but plenty of people love it, and you can see that by the subscribers they have. Like it or not, EVE isn't a terrible game. They made a believeable world that's as awesome to look at as it is to play. It just isn't for everyone.
remember, that wormhole can take you to other places as well as other TIME! that means new eden may be actualy in the past, and if someone finds a way back to milky way through other meaning may as well discover and Sol system be uninhabited OR not existing enymore due to old age.. yeah i am thinking too much
@Fredfredbug4 I just realized something. When you enter a wormhole, and enter W-space, you come across Sleepers. What if the old galaxy was turned into sleepers? Or perhaps evolved into the Jovians?
i wish the new one which is obscenely better, incorporated the original introductions information about the races. It would also be really nice if CCP make introduction movies for new pilots to each race telling them more about the side they have chosen the start with.
Yeah. I did like this. The more single-player/small-scale multi game Supreme Commander had a similarly-styled intro, and it also got me into that world pretty well. I was all ready to go in and fight for the freedom of symbiotes and the sovereignty of the Cybran Nation. In turn, I again came into EVE seeking to fight for Matari liberation and safeguard the Minmatar Republic. Minmatar and Cybran are rather similar in aesthetics and factional role.
If you feel like scifi and are immensely stubborn try this game out. But I must warn you. It will take about 2-3 months untill you get to the fun part. The first month is about tutorials, small missions and training skills that will hasten your future training. Also the game is highly complex. If you like dept and are smart, stubborn and inquisitive you will find your place here. Theres alot to learn. Everyones giving out 21 day trial invites because of 1 month bonus.
The best 4:48 minutes OF MY LIFE!!! The most EPIC Intro ever...Please CCP, can't you remake something like this for Incarna =3 Srsly, I sat in front of my computer with goosebumps all over my body....Epicgasm all the way
I remember seeing this and was "i'm all inn". Now 20 years later... I'm still going! And i think i've paid more for this game by now than i did for my education.
@bengacris I don't think so. The text in ^ says transported to "a virgin system", nowhere does it say to another galaxy, it just says "across the universe" but that can mean anything. Besides in 'New Eden' you also find star gates, so did all these new colonists build star gates before that started killing each other. Plus on the 1 min 38 sec mark, it shows the night sky constellations. My guess is 'New Eden is another arm of our galaxy, and not in another galaxy.
@Dt0x75 I do understand it a storyline for a internet game. Was it to hard for you to grasp that I was meaning it was very similar to earth history, bad wars etc, human destruction?
you know what its no big secret anymore Hollywood is out of ideas on movies now and days if they was to take on eve online they would have a endless amount of movies they could make so i think your idea is brilliant there
Does anyone know the name of music going in the background, and where to buy it? By the way, in my opinion, clearly the best intro ever created for a sci-fi game, 1:36 gives me goosbumps. Cheers CCP
@saintjinn "Also no known constellations from Earthside exist in EVE." The constellations change shape over time, and if not when viewed from the side wouldnt resemble the pattern we know from an Earth vantage point..
@FinALIEN93 True, but locking on to a stars positions is a good beacon. Maybe a 'Star Wars' nav computer could solve that issue. In the Millenium Falcon hand book the astro navigation sytem and means is discussed, but that is moot.
You know before i got really into EVE, I played the 14 day trial and did not play for about 3 months. This was the trailer i remember watching, it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Then i made my new characters and the apocrypha trailer played i always knew something was wrong, but i was not sure what. Then i watched this... and now i know.
the 'feature' being having another races which is the outer rim of the bulk of humanity, and they meet the Eve ppl, and thus we have new ships, and new conflicts ect.
Dude, you're preaching to the choir. I've played for about 2 years ago. Working on my 4th account. :D The game is amazing, but I was just being sarcastic. You do need to remember that it IS "only a game", even if it is incredibly realistic.
Does it sound like the old humans in this intro were alot like the Caldari to you? Seems alot like it to me - especially the way they showed a Caldari Stargate when they mentioned them being invented. :o...
@XDawn117 really no info on that for sure. then why would new eden not be destroyed as well? im pretty sure the sleepers are survivors from the milky way anyways.
Have to admit it is a bit like Freelancers intro, People leave world due to huge conflict, and become cut off from old world, except this one is better because its understated.
@Puzzoozoo i believe it was you who said "I suppose eventually CCP will have the star map as our entire galaxy" which is just insane, we only travel 1 or 2 sec in the highest warp, if the people of EVE would want to get back to Earth instead of almost dying out completely because of the collapse of the new eden wormhole, the could have done it pretty easily,
All these years later and I still say this was EVE's best intro
They really need to go back to the feel of the EvE universe that this trailer gives.
i cant like this comment enough
Indeed, last I played, they fell far from their original glory
yes yes and yes again
They won't , the old devs that embodied that feeling are gone from CCP

@Puzzoozoo If I read your statement right, yeah, EVE ships can travel to earth in small amount of time, but the problem is the destination lock. that is required to warp. You cant warp without destination. Same thing as jumping with Caps. they need Cyno in the destination system taht works as like "beacon" or "Lighthouse" to cap's jump drives to lock in.
Sometimes the story can be more effectively told without flashy in game graphics. This is an epic intro, a tribute in a way to old school games.
I really would like to see the HD posted!
Aaah, the memories of watching this intro. It felt so epic back then.
'Lest we forget.
However, despite all that I still think it is entirely improbable to find earth in any reasonable amount of time as it would be roughly 4 minutes per light year, at minimum, according to 'Old Man Star'; hence the 3 years it would take (assuming it was further than Andromeda)
ahhh this reminds me of the good old times when i was a rookie pilot. Cant wait to see what EVE holds for us in the future though ;)
I can't promise it's there but if there's any place you can find it it's in EVE's in-game jukebox, somewhere.
Holy crap! They should make a movie. I love the backstory
Still should be required viewing for all new capsuleers.
Man I havn't seen this movie for two years now :) Makes me feel all nostalgic and fuzzy on the inside hehe.
Eve needs to discover the band 'toxic grind machine'
So much of the music fits so many situations so well
@Helge129 In the sense that a fight is predetermined based on what gear you have and what character skills are applicable.
It just isn't for everyone.
remember, that wormhole can take you to other places as well as other TIME! that means new eden may be actualy in the past, and if someone finds a way back to milky way through other meaning may as well discover and Sol system be uninhabited OR not existing enymore due to old age.. yeah i am thinking too much
That's pretty sweet, i had no idea that was the story behind Eve.
@cjnoskire id say they went for getting away from the past storyline of how we got there to the new storyline showing you everything you can do
The best 4:48 minutes OF MY LIFE!!!
The most EPIC Intro ever...Please CCP, can't you remake something like this for Incarna =3
Srsly, I sat in front of my computer with goosebumps all over my body....Epicgasm all the way
Scary. That was a history lesson more then an intro for a internet game
I remember seeing this and was "i'm all inn". Now 20 years later... I'm still going! And i think i've paid more for this game by now than i did for my education.
Are you one of the 18 that have kept thier accounts running since 2003?
@@Groza_Dallocort More or less. I lost my first account but my 2004 account still go strong.
I hope we will get a better knowledge of what the earth lost-tech was like, and what earth is like right now
agreed... this intro is way better than the current dominion opener.....
as it says in the info, they are bringing back the old intro that explains the base storyline.
@Dt0x75 I do understand it a storyline for a internet game. Was it to hard for you to grasp that I was meaning it was very similar to earth history, bad wars etc, human destruction?
you know what its no big secret anymore Hollywood is out of ideas on movies now and days if they was to take on eve online they would have a endless amount of movies they could make so i think your idea is brilliant there
Anyone know the name of the woman narator ? Such a great voice.
Does anyone know the name of music going in the background, and where to buy it?
By the way, in my opinion, clearly the best intro ever created for a sci-fi game, 1:36 gives me goosbumps. Cheers CCP
god i remember this video... brings back memories from 2007.
Wish I knew what happened to the humans who didn't go into the worm hole.
Its pretty much the truth, mankind will not leave earth without the funding of the mega corps.
Wow I miss this! Blast from the past and my char is not exactly an old one either!
Then i watched this... and now i know.
the 'feature' being having another races which is the outer rim of the bulk of humanity, and they meet the Eve ppl, and thus we have new ships, and new conflicts ect.
i love her voice
Dude, you're preaching to the choir. I've played for about 2 years ago. Working on my 4th account. :D
The game is amazing, but I was just being sarcastic. You do need to remember that it IS "only a game", even if it is incredibly realistic.
Does it sound like the old humans in this intro were alot like the Caldari to you?
Seems alot like it to me - especially the way they showed a Caldari Stargate when they mentioned them being invented.
:o...
Time for a hi-res remake?
@XDawn117 really no info on that for sure. then why would new eden not be destroyed as well? im pretty sure the sleepers are survivors from the milky way anyways.
Have to admit it is a bit like Freelancers intro, People leave world due to huge conflict, and become cut off from old world, except this one is better because its understated.
@Puzzoozoo i believe it was you who said "I suppose eventually CCP will have the star map as our entire galaxy" which is just insane,
we only travel 1 or 2 sec in the highest warp, if the people of EVE would want to get back to Earth instead of almost dying out completely because of the collapse of the new eden wormhole, the could have done it pretty easily,
