MrMassivemeatlog And not a single (or not a lot of) real money was spent exept for subscriptions and the odd PLEX. The battle did not actually cost that much money. If every ship was financed through plex, it would have cost that. Obviously, that's not the case.

I started playing EVE because of this trailer. At the time I thought "friends you'll know for the rest of your life" was more than a little hyperbolic. But it's been 13 years, I still play, and I'm still friends with half the guys from my first corporation. There's really nothing else like it.

kind of the same with me... but... it may be just for now, but it feels like the game relies too much on that a player's progress depends on their friends/corp.
In my case, since pretty much only one person have experience with the "Support" ships, (Logistics, EWAR & Interdiction) I mean, I feel like I need some practical experience with those ships, but since only one person have experience with those, and aren't always online...

This used to be the case but improvements in technology mean we now have games such as Albion Online. Sandbox games based on land are better than sandbox games in space because too much space is boring. Eve Online was the best available experience in its day though.

He sent me a message; "I have a couple of questions, why did you lock on me and why the hell are you mining in a punisher?"
And that's how it started. You might think this trailer is over the top and it is in some regards but the sandbox is real. God I miss playing this game sometimes.

I played a MUD (text-based multiplayer game) constantly between the ages of 12 to 18. When Everquest came out, I was so excited to have a similar experience but in 3D... then I actually played it. And other MMORPGs. Every one was a disappointment. In the MUD I played, players knew each other. Players made an impact on the world. I'm 35 now and I can still recall the names of my guildmates and lots of the equipment they wore and exploits we had together, along with the exploits of many others in the game. The MMOs? Nothing. Because there are multiple worlds, the best anyone can do is become a cookie-cutter clone of a thousand other players that look just like them. The benefit of having only 1 world is something more games should investigate. Strictly limited items, of which only 1 or 2 might exist in the whole world, and the ability for players to interact with the 'gods' of the realm and make lasting changes lifts the playing experience to a whole different level. If I had the time, I imagine I would love EVE.

The one universe and full pvp in eve actually enforces you to learn or quit. Mittani's article in tentohammer really nailed it and that is the reason that I play.
Btw, when you make the same mistake twice you actually learned to recognize the situation. I really love this feature in the game.

Although the events in this video would be unlikely to happen to most people, it demonstrates the most important point of EVE Online: sandbox gameplay. The game doesn't limit you to a path or tell you what to do. You make your own choices, find your own way of living, and experience whatever consequences result.

it always gives you the warp in, in the mission screen you click on the orange link to the system, set destination, undock, warp to it, jump through or stay in system whichever the case is, when you get to the proper system your desitination menu (right click) will say (warp to encounter)... you can't get it wrong. When you get there use your mission log to see your goal, kill npcs, pop a specific target for a drop, or just fly close enough then run and report. Dock and turn in mission.

I'm not bashing this game or anyone who plays it, I am saying it isn't for everyone. Like you said, "It's easy to get into ships and new parts, but takes dedication to master them." I am (un)fortunately more dedicated to things in the real world that matter more than a video game.
That being said, if you have not played it do give it a try. It's a beautiful game and very in-depth.
I think CCP is a solid company with a very innovative business model. I wish more MMO companies were like them.

By far the best video game trailer I have ever seen in my life. And that's a lot coming from someone named haloboy.I love halo the most out of any game, but this trailer makes me proud to be a member of Eve Online because unlike most trailers this one is 100% true to what happens in the game. Also I can send out 21-day trials so message me on here and ill email one to you(only 3 people a month).

The skill system has it's advantages. Properly planned, a newbie can participate in massive fleet warfare with less than 48 hours training. It's easy to get into ships and new parts, but takes dedication to master them. Sounds like a good balance to me. As for boredom, a lot of people don't try new things. They mine, they mission, then they get bored. Ever try exploring a wormhole? Scanning for complexes? Joining a 0.0 Alliance? Now THAT stuff is fun. :)

@Vexoro if you're, do not go to low/nullsec at all, regardless of how cheap your ship is. you will more than likely be insta-podded by a fleet of battleships/marauders. wait until you have a large corp, or alliance to go into null/lowsec. same goes for wormholes.

@wiltbloococo "over 6 billion" is still a correct statement and closely relates to the video.
WP states 204 entries, but counting the number of countries is difficult, which still makes the video statement interesting (probably just a mistake!).
What you are referring to seems to be ISO-3166 country codes, which as you mention also includes regions like the Falkland Islands, which is a disputed sovereignty.
I wasn't trying to be pedantic on the first comment : ).

Nice video, gives glimps on what combat looks like, those were all in-game shots too.
EVE Online = most rewarding MMO ever, the learning curve also filters out the impatient and annoying people out of the game, not all but most of them.

Rewatching this reminds me of the most chaotic situation I ever flew into. I was flying around Syndicate in my tengu, out of my depth and not realizing it. I stop to do a site, get tackled like a moron. Luckily, it is just a random gang, and they are taking forever to break my tank. Unluckily, I am configured for running and cloaking, so I can't kill all their tacklers. I'm sure I'm going to lose my most expensive ship like a complete idiot.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a bigger gang drops in on us, and starts shooting at the first gang. I get massively lucky and they happen to kill the last person tackling me first (actually, think I ended up with the finishing blow by chance if I remember right.) I warped the hell away to a safe spot, cloaked up, and hid like a tiny scared baby until I could slip out of the system.
Still laugh when I think about the absurd luck. Pretty sure that the bigger gang wanted to kill me too, but luck gave me a break=)

It's such a great trailer. This does happen. Often times it's the reverse. You are a lonely miner making an honest living and pirates attack. You are plucky and put up a decent defense but ultimately they destroy your ship. They later contact you and during the ensuing conversation invite you to join their band of misfits. The next decision is yours...

ive known about eve for years and for the last couple months have finally buckled down. If your new PLEASE dont let eve intimidate you. i know many people who are driven away from the game because hey find it overwhelming, it is VERY rewarding once things get going. With tyrannis comming out, and from what i hear dust following fairly soon after, you can see this game after years of running is still going to new places.

The miner didn't seem too worried...as he was still mining while he was under attack. I would have just assumed he had things handled and moved on.

Actually, it looks like it's one Interceptor and at least one Merlin-chassis ship for heavy(ier) fire. Could be a Hawk or a Harpy Assault Frigate, same class as the focus character's Wolf. Can't tell what the other ship would be, though. Possibly an e-war for flexibility?

I think this video was made to be 100% freindly to the people who haven't played EvE. If they had Aura (the tutorial AI) do it, it would be slightly more confusing for them.
Having this guy who sounds alot like the guy pointed the game out to you, makes it seem more viewer friendly.

  • @Vexoro

I'm new to EvE and I really need to say that it is the best MMO I've played so far.
It's Economysystem is just wonderful, with a little bit of reallife knowledge about economy you can make TONS of isk within the first days/weeks.
I think I'm just going to make a lot of isk whilst training some skills, so I can fit a badass PvP ship and then go to 0.0 to learn the PvP aspects of the game.
(yes, I know, dont fly to 0.0 with a expensive ship and 0 knowledge of combat :D)
