Welcome to The Amish Potato’s Channel. My name is Cj Miller. I was raised Amish in Shipshewana, IN. I was Amish until I was 16 years old, when I started dressing “English”, drove a car and partied on the weekends. This is called Rumspringa.
I did this until I was in my late twenties. I then briefly joined the amish church, left again, and moved to Idaho where I discovered the truth of who Christ is, married my lovely wife and am now sharing my story on UA-cam.

I agree it doesn’t make any sense at all. I think some of the choices they make are great but should be made by the family not by the church and forced on everyone. It’s funny how a group can be so against material things to be closer to God, only to be more focused on material things then they are of God.
I gave you a 👍 but we disagree on computers. My husband is a computer programmer and technician. We avoid all Apple Inc. products.

The fact that some Amish communities allow computers and some don't really shouldn't confuse most people.
All religions have rules. Your basic Christian is supposed not to eat meat on Friday. I grew up where if I ever went to my grandparents on Friday I'd get fish and chips, because Firday was no meat day.
But down the road some other down home basic Christians of the same denomination were eating meat.
Same, releigion, same demoniation, same region, different interpretation of the rules and different levels of compliance.
I mean even within a single deonomination such as Catholicism, there are many different interpretations and levels of compliance with the rules - and different groups within the laity and the clergy, for example aposltelistic orders.
If you are religious, just think about your own religion and I am sure if you think about it you will see parallels with the different rules (ordnances??) and different interpretations that different Amish communities have.

Don't know where you get your opinion about abusive Amish from CJ. Evidently, you don't watch ALL his videos. He may be teaching that a person has a right to keep themselves safe from others. CJ comes from a loving family and community.
