  • Hello all, Just a quick video on how to install the ZWO Dew Heater Strip on you ASI cooled camera. This is a very very easy install,
    But when searching for any kind of video instructions, I couldn't find anything. So why not make a video about it ! The Dew Heater strip is an easy install for most folks, and there are some photo step by step on ZWO web site. So I've included a link to their Heater strip... Plus a short video to possibly help someone out.
    astronomy-imag...
    I bought this product myself, and ZWO has not asked me or paid me for this video..
    Clear Sky's !
    Enjoy, and any advice is always welcome. Please hit he like button, Subscribe and hit the Bell for notifications when I release an new video..

    Thanks for the video! I’m switching to a 294mm pto soon from a 071mc pro and gotta say it’s very very odd for the cost of these cameras to not have the dew heater on every model, people will pay a little extra to avoid hassle. I was spoiled and didn’t realize they didn’t all have one coming from the 071 lol

      They can handle I believe up to 11 lbs. And this setup was less than that.. Thank you for your comment and for watching !

    The Q&A's on the ZWO website for this product state that it is not required on Pro cameras. As the camera cooling system operates, the heat dissipation is through the case of the camera, making the dew band redundant. I suspect you may be interfering with the cooling system too by adding this band.

    • @bfgmetalworks
      @bfgmetalworks  Рік тому

      Thank you, I believe you are correct. I did not see the Q&A at the time when I produced this video. And when I purchased this, I was told by ZWO that it was ok to use.. But after your comment, I also went to the ZWO site and looked, and saw those Q&A. As you are correct on the redundancy with using this product, For some, they might be able to use this if they can control the amount of power going to it by using something like the ASIAIR Plus or Pro. I control mine this way and keep it at very low power. Soon, I'll be getting the Mono version of this same camera, and will not use a heater strip... Thank you for your comment !

      It really depends in which environment you operate. I am located in Canada and with cooling at -30, weather at -25C, I had dew on the camera glass. The dew heater is required in such cases.

    Had to go back and watch this one again 6 months later. I love my 294MC Pro. I purchased the dew heater from ZWO because of this vid.....but I have not installed it yet. Do you think it was a good investment ? Do you still power it up on every session ?

      @bfgmetalworks  2 роки тому

      Yes I do think for the price, it was a good investment.. I control it now with my Asair pro or Plus.

      @bfgmetalworks  7 місяців тому

      It wasn't at all. I believe they can hold 11 lbs payload. And this setup was under that limit.

    Nice little tutorial. What are your thoughts on that dew heater ring compared to the band you were using? So it's assumed that the 12v power source needs to have sufficient amperage to run the cooler and the dew ring at the same time. Is the dew heater ring controlled in some fashion? It is not linked to the camera except for the power wire, which seems to indicate that as soon as the 12v adapter is energized, the ring heat comes on; to maximum. Do they indicate the amp draw of the ring? As for the missing spacers... what would have been their purpose? Thanks.

    • @bfgmetalworks
      @bfgmetalworks  2 роки тому

      Well, before as soon as the power was on to the camera, the dew heater was on at max. Now I use either my Asair Pro or the Plus, and within the app you can control the percentage of power you want or turn it off within the app. I'm also not sure about the spacers, Online it showed they cam with it, but they were not in the package. I can only assume that they were some sort of washer type spacer, very thin.

    How do you control the dew heater output and the asiair app?

    • @bfgmetalworks
      @bfgmetalworks  2 роки тому

      You control it (dew heater) thru the ASAIR's App.. You can turn it on and off as well as setting the percentage of power you want it to use.

      @@bfgmetalworks I know where but I only have two options and running the power to it with the sitter that comes with it for the 533mc and dew strip and the other is for my other dew heater for my 6se telescope. If I tap on the camer option it turns off everything on the other dew heater it allows me to ajust the power level.
