One of the founders of Little Creek Sanitarium in Knoxville, TN. This house was built by Dr. Goodge and first occupied in 1953. It was a sad day to see it torn down in 55 minutes.
11:00 ripples the entire roof frame. Now I think I get why these was used in the 80's and 90's so much, bringing the roof down. Now the fun part, getting it cleaned up. Excellent video.
A cat 330 excavator with a 4 in 1 bucket would be so much faster but if all you own is that track loaded then hell yes ! Let's get er done !!! I love it !!!
Wrong tool for the job. A Cat 315 or 320 would have taken this house down and the pile would have been in its own footprint. I hated to see him push that chimney over to the outside of the foundation. Oh well... To each his own I guess. With this happening 7.5 years ago I wouldn't be surprised if there was a new home in its place already.
I know this is an old video but I had to comment. Everyone is complaining that they used a Traxcavator to demolish the house but back in the '50s, 60's and '70s before excavators were common track loaders were used all the time to do demolition. There's no reason that he can't load trucks when they clean-up just like we did 50 years ago. Also I've seen excavator demolitions where nothing was salvaged.
william davidson I still have 2 track loaders and my son 1. If doesn't have basement or to tall still use them. On bigger jobs we take excavator and loader to help out and grade. 30 years ago that's all I used. Sometimes had to get inventive. 40 years ago watched old guys run cable around theater and winched it down with big dozer. I watched a guy tear down a big two story school building in 1984 or 5 with a 580D 2 wd backhoe he's still in business with one machine. I still bring it up to him. Guys now are spoiled.
So True Scott! I’m even guilty myself of being spoiled. I always think back to the legend up the road from me who just passed on a year ago. He had a yard full of equipment but he did everything with his John Deere backhoe.
I wreak old buildings as well with a track loader, anyone can swing a boom on an excavator ,it takes skill to wreak with a track loader. He is doing a good job
its what was available back in the 50's Gary....??? I wonder if they stripped all the copper out of it first. I see they saved a couple of the mature shrubs from the front also... ;-)
D5N Cat yes except he still has to bring in an excavator to load it out so it’s kind of a waste of money two move two machines when it would have already been down with an excavator ...
One of these days, mankind will realize that we need to re-use and recycle everything possible; hopefully we won't have to suffer too much for that point to be reached.....
Yeah,America is filling up landfills with those "green & environmentally friendly" windmills. So far over 19000 tons of malfunctioned or burned out windmill pieces been put in landfills. So between landfills & farm lost by solar panels,we'll starve in 30 yrs. What land left has already been destroyed by FDR's nuke waste or nuke testing. Not to mention all these non recyclable electric cars made out of 40% plastic. The more "green" we go,the more crap ends up in landfills. But carry on..lol
Oh,and with people wanting higher min wages,it'd cost over $30k just to salvage this house. So between recycling home & rebuilding another one, person would have over $300k invested in a 2-4 bedroom home. If our celebrities and politicians built smaller homes, that would do more good vs crying about this guy,but I don't see that happening
yeah save the asbestos and lead paint covered material and anything else deemed hazardous materials that was used in home construction around this time... There is a reason old log homes are salvaged and these era homes are not. just sayin..
They talk big about it but they don't care. I just tore down building had 50 trees around it county green waste wouldn't take them. Had to haul to landfill and they got buried. They are there to make home owners feel warm and fuzzy. Some cities care but very few that I've seen in Utah.
This building was obviously in considerable disrepair, given the holes in the roof. I see a comment below, to the effect that the place was falling down, inside and outside. Given that the bulldozer destroyed wall after wall, then had to lift and drop the roof sections to raze the structure and even then the roof stayed together until the machine drove over it repeatedly suggests that structurally the building was more sound than expected. I owned a home of about the same age in Lexington, MA (USA), a much more upscale town, I am sure, than Knoxville. I could not afford to continue living there and sold the house in 2001. Within a few months it was destroyed and a mansion was built in its place, which sold for over three times what we got for the place. Of course, the town receives about ten times the taxes for the property now than my family paid. However, first time buyers are certainly priced out of that location, and most of the rest of Lexington. BOO TO THE CRADLE OF LIBERTY!
Yes I know all about that. Born on Cape Cod and in the building trades I see it every day. I know that will be the fate of my Brewster ranch when I sell. Cape Cod cottages and family homes are being razed for summer Trophy homes
It is a shame that they did not save that Triplex Tower it would probably be worth at least two $300 to somebody and my machine of choice would be a 320 excavator to make fast work of that house
For any reason if a person with bad intentions were to get their hands on one of these machines and decided to go on a rampage through neighborhoods..... It would be a disaster....
That is a job for an excavator.. I would have crunched and munched that structure to bits, in a few hours with my smallest machine, while leaving my 963 on another job.
Looks like the 80's when i started demo (open cab 977k with a pole) guy i worked for was a cheapass. I'd tint my windows too, so no one could see me!! What a mess! "Everybody does demo!"

I am just curious as to the history behind the house if anyone knows it. What will be put there in replacement of the old house. I see this a lot where I live. People demolish the previous house and build a bigger new one. I often wonder if they do it so they can flip it and make a huge profit or do they rebuild to have a house that meets their needs? Who ever owned the house before had a nice ham radio tower. He really moved quickly to bring the house down, I’ll give him that.

That is a superb dozer operator there. Very rare level of skill.
All you twits saying to go buy an excavator, this is how we did it from the 60s to the 90s. Relax juniors. Now go play quietly in your room.
No ! It was a Tank !
Mighty decent operating skills there. Thanks very much for sharing these videos.
Piss Poor Sloppy Job
This house looks pretty old, so Where's the water hose to control the dust and asbestos.
Look what those tracks are doing to that mans driveway! Man, I would have scarfed up that radio Antenna.
Old school demolition right there. This is how we used to do it, except we ran a 977
Hell on the landscaping
That's a powerful machine
I love a bit of trackscavator action, but honestly, they might as well of just torched the place. It would have been more environmentally friendly :o)
When you're going through a divorce and they give her the house.
It would have burned down..... by accident
Now unload an excavator w a thumb to load all that debris. Oh, wait, we could've used that to start with...
Thats crazy.
Not many basements in Tennessee, I guess.
Damn! That guy took down that place in no time flat! Musta had a date that night and didn't want to be late!
I watched a guy with a large bucket endloader break down a 2 story house with a stand up attic and basement into a broken up pile. 12min.
If this guy shows up at my house I'm calling the cops!!
Not bad for a kid doing their first demo by remote control
He shall go far.

A 4 in 1 bucket would be most excellent in this demo !

I think hes a good operator
What I don't understand is why they never strip the place and recycle what they can?
Must be a rental machine, the real owner wouldn't push it that hard. They make it look "awkward" for some reason when a 963 is so smooth.....
Why not an Excavator with a grapple?
