I'm 36 and I remember loading this game up with the giant ass floppy disk on the Apple computer in my school. Had no idea they were actually pulling out a new one.
Just thought I'd point out that $600 in 1830 (towards the end of the Oregon Trail era) was worth about $20,000 today. That's an expensive way to get dysentery!
This is a really nice looking upgrade to the classic Oregon Trail. Funny enough it seems like hard mode is just basically the original game, lol.
Hard mode gives you considerably less time to get to Oregon. In normal mode you can take your time, but in hard mode survival isn't enough--you also have to pace yourself to ensure you get to Oregon before winter strikes. Hard mode also gives you less starting money than normal mode, making the large wagon unaffordable.
I am getting so much laughter out of this series. Thank you so much for this.

- I actually rather like it, makes you have to think carefully and decide what you keep and what you don't what you can afford and what you may need. The only issue I have is it sort of seems like the wagon getting damage sort of seems to happen a little too often to be realistic, I mean yeah I know sh!t breaks down, but in a period of about 3-4 months, you would think that the wagon would for the most part remain more or less intact, but having to repair it every 10 days or so seems a little excessive. In the first part of the run seemed fairly normal, but in the second half of the video it was like 2 - 4 damaged bits of wagon every few days more or less, so kind of felt a bit too much repairs needed. But the inventory management I rather liked. Much better than games that make you have weight limits, those are frustrating, especially when you still have room for more stuff in your containers. I much prefer the visual limitation of actual available space, rather than a numerical value deciding what you can carry.
I love going to Oregon on the trail! I don't know if I want to go there in real life but this is the best way.

I still don't understand why he doesn't just heal the snakebites with medication and he instead has someone suck out the venom and then just ends up using medicine on them anyway

This video just got recommended to me. It looks fun especially with the decision making. Who should do what, what items should you risk using/trading, etc.
I find it difficult to lose in this game and find myself with challenges just to kill some people off. Like no trading, no hunting, and no fishing.
Sad I missed the live, but happy to watch and like now 👍
So glad they included a reference to the trail to Oregon musical by Jeff Blim and Starkid, the tomb stone has the option to put peperony and chease as one of the answers. (I know that in itself was a reference to a hacker from the OG game or something but I just like to imagine there’s a Starkid fan in the dev team)

I just beat Oregon or bust for the first time, by the SKIN OF MY TEETH.
One person with dynentary and like 5 squares of supplies lmao. No hygiene.
My second to last guy died TEN MILES before oregon. He broke his hand or something, he died instantly v with 2 health before i could pump him with herbs. I rafted with zero issue.
Hard mode is ROUGH.
