  • ANTIQUES TO VINTAGE MODERN | SHOPPING A QUALITY MALL FOR RESALE
The sign says, "Save, Serve and Conserve", and that's what we do while picking vintage resale items at an antique mall in an antique feed store! Heading for the Atlantic coast antique shows, Ellenton, Florida is a long time stop for dealers and collectors heading down I-75 at the south end of Tampa Bay.
The selection makes clear why this mall has thrived for many years. Victorian student lamps and 1950s TV lamps, Majolica humidors and mid-century prints all find a place here, and collectors of all stripes are likely to find something to tantalize. Costume jewelry? Czech birds? Collectible gauges? This mall has them, with 50 diverse dealers and prices running from reasonable retail to outright bargains.
We shop, show and tell together in this video. A pink Haeger mottled glaze compote, horse and panther TV lamps and a genuine silver overlay perfume bottle make their way to the counter, all priced for profit potential and ready for me to take to my show! Prices are part of this video too, with reviews of both old school and modern day values in selected categories.
A break at Ellenton's nearby Gamble Mansion offers a glimpse at the most Southern plantation in Dixie, where Confederate leaders made their escape after the war was lost. Then it's back to the historic Feed Store Antique Mall to wrap up with more finds, including a sweet 1970s print and a child's size formica table that might just wedge into my already overstuffed van! If only there was room for those teak and tile tables...
Here's more of what we discover as we prowl the 50 dealers of this well run antique pavilion:
Royal Dux bird, WWII school war drive poster, Lane laminates coffee table, Australian plate, plique-a-jour pendant, millefiori glass, Italian paper mache busts, Carolina pottery, pill boxes, ice cream molds, novelty pen stand, peachblow glass, applied floral glass, rose bowls, snail inkwell, majolica candlesticks and figures, Lladro 'Love and Desire', Jacob Petit bottle, pink bottle brush tree, Anchor Polka Dot tumblers, jeweled fringed boudoir lamp, student lamps, 1920s harlequin prints, 1970s Burger Chef owl ad, German thermometer flask, Lundberg Studios vase, Loetz type vase, Bjorn Winblad trivet, Wavecrest glass, Lucite woven box purse, enameled 1960s flower pins, blue delphite kitchen glass, Mego action figures, Fenton jadeite bowl, celestial globe, battery rack, conestoga clock, carte-d-vistas, celebrity fan photo arcade cards, orange Fire-King, Winart pitcher, etc.

My 5th grade teacher lived in the Gamble Mansion and took us as a class on a field trip there. She told us a story about when her little sister almost fell off the second story porch and my teacher grabbed her long hair before she went over and hauled her up by it. I grew up in the Bradenton/sarasota area and the Gamble Mansion and the Ringling Museum where a few of my sacred sites, Im now 74 and live in Nova Scotia.....pretty good for a Florida girl! I loved your videos and seeing places I know well. I think that the feed store was at one time a music place where the Allman Brothers played.

Hi George! There's a lot of interesting items in that shop. I kind of liked the Italian papier mache busts. I really like the pill boxes. Those have always interested me. I'd love to have the ice cream molds. I didn't think $100.00 was bad for the log one, either. Those Victorian oil lamps had my interest, for sure. That R S Prussia dish there caught my eye, too. I want the snail inkwell! I'd have paid that for it in a heartbeat. Was that a Millersburg "Hanging Cherries" water pitcher behind the rose bowls? That one really got my attention. I liked that mini sewing machine. It would make a nice object to set on a table. Love that unusual student lamp! I've never seen one like that. I like the Schafer and Vater pieces...especially their more risque ones. That bust humidor was a fantastic piece. That shop looked like a place to spend a whole day. Thanks for the take-along!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad

I think it might have been Hanging Cherries! I didn't catch it on the way through because I got focused on the rose bowls. • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS

@@TheAntiqueNomad If it was an original Millersburg "Hanging Cherries", and not a Fenton reissue, (of course it was one of the Fentons that opened the Millersburg factory), there's quite a bit of value in that. I really liked that snail inkwell. I've always liked inkwells, and that one gave me a minute of tunnel vision. I have one Schafer and Vater item - a decanter combo set. It's a clown that is in three sections. They could do some hilarious things, too.
Unless something drastic happens, I'm going to be here for your premiers! I take the video full-screen, and zero in on what you're saying and showing. I'm noticing a rebound on some things, too. I'm liking that.

The Cotton and Quail Antique Trail magazine is distributed in the antique shops there and has listings. I think Jax has 1-2 antique shows a year. The big one is Renninger's Mt. Dora in Nov., Jan. and Feb.

Could you help us understand a bit more about the value of the pieces you show us, and what we could expect, within a range, about what we might expect for a value as a reseller. Understanding we ought not take anything you say as gossip!

Hi there! I do get a lot of requests for more price info, I will try to be more aware to share that...sometimes I focus on it more and sometimes I want to focus on the object itself. You will find in some of my old videos that they're very price focused (and some not)

27:29 HEY YOU antique vendors : NEVER DO THIS : Firstly ; this is WAY WAY overpriced at $185.00 -- (this would sell on eBay to the right person for about $50.00 to $75.00..and it would take a while to sell at that). It is a good piece and hard to find , but I think it's a "give away" poster as opposed to an "in-store" poster that was meant for management to hang up INSIDE the store . MY MAIN POINT IS: If you are selling posters / paper items DO NOT HAVE them PROFESSIONALLY framed -then figure the FRAME COST INTO THE PIECE. The frame job could have EASILY been $75.00 or more. And the frame MAY NOT BE EVERY ONE's taste . So you are forcing a person that JUST WANTS THE POSTER to pay for a frame that they don't care for. NEVER DO THIS . INVEST in a rigid plastic sleeve OR buy a $7.00 IKEA FRAME.

The $185.00 price makes me feel like he's making US pay for the frame / custom order frame job. Not a good practice to get into.
