I hurt myself today To see if I still feel I focus on my pain The only thing that's real The needle tears a hole The old familiar sting Try to kill it all away But I remember everything What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know Goes away in the end You could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt I wear this crown of shit Upon my liar's chair Full of broken thoughts I cannot repair Beneath the stains of time The feelings disappear You are someone else I am still right here What have I become? My sweetest friend Everyone I know Goes away in the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt If I could start again A million miles away I would keep myself I would find a way
@@rileygross9729 He absolutely did not. And Trent played this on piano as you see here. Johnny Cash did not write a single note and covered the song note for note. So, he didn't do anything better. Cash would disagree with your damn assessment too. He covered it because the song is brilliant.
Can’t we just agree that both Trent and Johnny’s versions are brilliant in themselves? It’s ok if you prefer one over the other, I mostly prefer this version, but Trent and Johnny both added their own special things to this song. Sure, Trent wrote the song and added deep and haunting emotion to it, but Cash also added his own little piece of emotion to it. He may have covered it because he not only thought it was brilliant, but possibly saw a little bit of himself in its lyrics. So though he was old and slowly withering away at the time, he gave it his all, and in his final moments he made a version of this song that’s memorable in itself. It even gave Trent himself goosebumps, and even he called it a beautiful piece of art. So though Johnny may say he didn’t do it better, you still gotta respect that he added a beautiful twist to it. NIN’s version will forever go down as one of the greats, but Johnny Cash’s version will also go down as one of the equal greats as well, as both Trent and Johnny are talented musicians.
the variety of all different kinds of music on this channel is just amazing :)

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on my pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of shit
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way
Johnny Cash did not write the music to this. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails did.
True. Though Reznor said after Cash's cover the music now belongs to him.
But this isn’t NINs version is it? It’s Johnny cash’s version of the song
It isn't Johnny Cash
nine inch nails*
Johnny cash did it better
