I love this car! Saw one in person in Turkey and OMG everyone was taking pictures of this car. So futuristic and cool looking. On the road it has such a presence. Its surprising how they made this car look so distinct on the road even with rounded lines. No wonder BMW called it a monolithic design.

The interior looks super plush and well finished. The materials look and probably feel great too. It is too bad the car just looks odd from the outside and Tesla is the only one that has charging that is easier than pumping gas. I haven't been to a single Electrify America station that did not have an issue (3 years of EV driving now). Also I find it weird that in a province with such large cities that you have so much difficulty finding charging points while travelling. In Quebec, I haven't heard anyone complaining about this.
Wow, that was a very busy (in a good way) review - bit surprised at the harsh exterior opinions but I get it. Ugh the charging issues are annoying - but I don't blame the cars for that of course. Love the curved screen and I can learn the infotainment stuff, so not worried about that.
I think it looks great, especially compared to a Model X and many other "quirky" e-cars. The blister flares, lights, profile, and most things look fantastic. The X5 looks ancient in comparison.
Guys: Onboard NAV makes a lot of sense on long trips in EVs when you need to charge. Otherwise no battery pr preconditioning, plus Google Maps doesn't show live data from chargers. Tricky traffic situations I go Google, otherwise I actually use onboard more.
The car is brilliant and I'm not opposed to EVs but until the infrastructure for charging actually becomes a thing and the price of the EV cars themselves start to drop then it will make sense. Right now, for such a populated place, Ontario is terrible when it comes to finding charging areas, the payment system is screwed up and sure most of your charging will be done at home but charging stations need to become a thing. The fact that Canada wants to ban selling new gas/diesel cars by 2035 they're going to need to pick up the pace on infrastructure and making the grid stronger. Whenever we have a heatwave in July and one too many AC units are on we have tons of blackouts. How will the system support charging tons of cars at once?
Thank you for showing the problems with the charging stations which makes this review more informative, unlike doug demuro who only reviews the car and calls it a day.
I don't mind most of the exterior styling on the iX but BMW needs to fix those wavy doors. BMW must have picked the lowest bidder for the stamping machinery. At times I think having an electric car would be interesting but the charging network problems are a complete turn-off and would keep me from owning one.
Yea, I was shocked when they pointed out those wavy doors; I can't unsee it. Anyone purchasing this should definitely go for the matte finish to minimize those effects.
I saw a new 228i Gran Coupe yesterday in traffic and the doors were wavy, it really looked bad. I don't know what BMW is doing with their body panels but I would be embarrassed to pay that much for a car and have it look so poorly built.
Finally someone commenting about the „dangerous“ reflections of those crystals. I like them a lot… but wouldn’t order these for exactly this reason. Great review 👍
I love it. German cars are often very boring but BMW's actually making things look unique nowadays. I know others don't feel the same way but I *much* prefer their newer designs.
The looks were already growing on me and then I saw and sat in one and was totally sold. Love the interior most of all, front and back. That said, your public charging up there sounds awful! Wife and I have been driving EVs since 2018 here in the states, but never had that much trouble the few times we public charge.
I just took a walk through the BMW lot while my car was being serviced and surprisingly found these very attractive in person. I would absolutely never consider an electric vehicle until they fixed that awful charging infrastructure though.
I love the brutal honesty at 5:22. The design is a mess of incongruent angles and surfaces and the overall proportions look heavy and not athletic at all.
We love our Tesla model X P100(D) with Ludicrous. The Supercharger network is second to none and there are many stalls at every location. Simple as plug in and walk away. Any charge costs are automatically sent to your credit card that is a part of your vehicle’s membership. We do not understand why the other auto makers do not follow this successful example of how to do EVs right.
Great review guys! The failure rate of charging stations is so high that it makes me wonder if there wouldn’t be sabotage from oil companies, so as to delay EV adoption. And there you go, just like that, this is my contribution to the wonderful world of conspiracy theories!! :)
Can you blame them? They don't make much money off of your recharge. You sit in their spot charging for 5 times as long as an ice customer. That's five different customers purchasing not only fuel but any number of other items in their stores.

I really wish I found all this appealing but shit. I'm just not interested. I can embrace the electric car as a way of transportation but do they have to make the interior so complicated? I can just imagine that shit freezing up and wanting to but my fist through that screen.
Great video, thanks. Car is awesome, really loving that akward looks, inside is just peace of art. Unfortunatelly your charging network is same rubbish that here in Finland.
examine the design close and you'll notice this is a more stylized version of the last generation Nissan Pathfinder (not a bad thing cause that SUV was brilliant). just saw one of these at the dealer on Friday and i love it. the price...? not so much, but along with the style and price the Bavarians DO give you performance to match so really no stone has been left unturned.
If you hold down the camera looking button with the P on it, it will start the drive recorder right away. Takes about 2 seconds, I use it in my '22 X5.
I think BMW could learn some things from Cadillac Lyric, which I think has much more refined look inside out. BMW's EV design language is very experimental, but not really appealing and it won't age well.
I love the exterior color but the design really does look like a minivan. I think the next gen of electric BMWs will look a LOT better than this generation.
I think the upcoming Kia EV9 is gonna look a lot better and destroy this in a lot of ways. What if there’s also gonna be the EV9 GT with over 500 hp?? And that’s probably gonna have the same exact power as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo
first I have to say how awesome watching you guys reviewing this Vehicle .. so thank you very much for your effort .. but as for BMW .. they can't stop building poor quality Vehicles no matter what the Technology .. as of this review that is like brand new SUV that is very expensive and yet .. the headlight are already fogging ?!!! how much will cost to replace that headlight ?! the more important question . does it replacing it will fix that problem ?! finally you guys aren't the only one that actually faces difficulties finding good operating charge station and that is the number one reason why no body Trust EV's and yet they haven't address that issues that is not on BMW alone of course .. I can't imagine when it become every one drive EV how these charging station it will hold up they have to stop this app stupid thing .. just charge and pay with credit or debit card like we do with Gas why can't they just go to this way ?! anyway only time will tell how these cars manufactory .. will do . regarding built quality and reliable Vehicles and Charging stations so far doesn't look pretty .. they have seriously a lot of work to do .. I want to see that movement success .. but their approach is messy and not as expected poor in all levels .. just follow the gasoline concept in electric is that simple enough ?!!!

Thanks for the review guys good work as usual. It’s the charging station issue that really caught my attention. Coming up with broken charging stations when you’re close to home might be considered inconvenient. I drive to Arizona in the winter. Imagine being down to 10 or 15% charge and I go to 4 charging stations in a row - and they’re all broken????? Now that is a serious issue. If our governments are going to try to wean us off ICEs- it better damn well do a better job with charging infrastructure!
The exterior design is all over the place. Not a fan of the giant kidneys. And the crystals?? Oh and the floor cup holders. As a BMW owner I have stink face with their new design direction.
And you have shown how we are not quite Electric Ready...Yet". I think Manufactures are jumping the gun. Building a lot of Electric Vehicles without having the infrastructure to support it. Tesla did it right, by building the Infrastructure to go with the Vehicles. "
@@snakeeyes9246 and you've tested a new X to come to that conclusion I assume? Or did you base it on mindless assumption and inconsequential anecdotes?
No EV of this generation is capable of being your only car in the house. You need something else that runs on fuel to be your road tripper. And if you can afford a BMW iX, you can afford a house, and a garage, and your own charge port. And if you have those things, that’s where you’ll do 99% of your charging. You’re not buying this car if you’re Renting.
i hated the look when i first saw it but I like it more and more everytime I see it, although I don't understand why it doesn't have a frunk, that is just bad design. Lucid, Rivian and Tesla have shown that a trunk is more than double so I don't know what other automakers are doing
Something that all companies need to start doing is bring in normal car review people and have them give real time thoughts before they put the final touches on the cars. All of these cars we keep seeing with massive flaws could easily be fixed before they were even produced if they brought in random reviewers. Now they have to wait a full generation to make them replace the faults, bad move.
Putting all the buttons into infotainment, and the exterior looks are a deal breaker. For $118,000 this vehicle should look great not just inside. When are companies going to realize they need to make electrics just as attractive as their outgoing gas counterparts.
118k, holy moly just buy buy an old P100D model x or whatever, the warranty will still be intact when this thing expires and breaks while being better on every metric

the headlight fogging is unfortunate considering this is a premium suv i have a 2013 a4 with 196k miles and have only had two fogging instances if this is a design flaw across the whole platform and not just the car they have bmw needs to address it

Same here mate, this just looks like a normal car and not like the preposterous egg in wheels the EQS looks like.
@@makatron Lol I like the EQS but yeah it does look like an egg. I can see why people dislike that but I cant understand why they dislike this BMW (other than the fact that its different from previous generations). I think they nailed the styling.

It should look better, for a BMW. I would rather have an electric Kia or Hyundai. They look better.
I’m still waiting for the upcoming Kia EV9. that’s more of a body on frame SUV
Nah
I actually think the vehicle looks good. It's a lot more modern outside and inside than the X5. The grill is over the top but I don't even mind it because it has a pattern on it.
I love this car! Saw one in person in Turkey and OMG everyone was taking pictures of this car. So futuristic and cool looking. On the road it has such a presence. Its surprising how they made this car look so distinct on the road even with rounded lines. No wonder BMW called it a monolithic design.
Are you kidding? It looks like a washing machine on wheels bruh
@@aono335 Not in my opinion. U are entitled to ur own however it is a fact that this car has a lot of road presence. When I was in Turkey when I was walking down the street from my hotel literally every day I saw tourists jamming up on this car taking pics and talking about how nice it looks. The owner had to move the car in the underground parking after that. LMAO! I'm waiting to test drive one and might even consider it over an M3 here in the US. But I can say the same what you said about a Lincoln, or a Range Rover, or a Tesla, or a Mercedes. Every review I watched has given this car a very good rating on tech, driving dynamics, and comfort/luxury. I don't mind the outside. It looks different in an age where all cars look the same.

The interior looks super plush and well finished. The materials look and probably feel great too. It is too bad the car just looks odd from the outside and Tesla is the only one that has charging that is easier than pumping gas. I haven't been to a single Electrify America station that did not have an issue (3 years of EV driving now). The Electrify America station near me has a technician on site working trying to fix it every week too.
It’s like going into an old casino that has been retro fitted.
Just buy the X5 plugin hybrid: costs less, you can drive electric 75% of the time, and never any range anxiety. Also it has far better ergonomics and styling.
Man you guys are on a roll with these electric car reviews keep up the good work 💪
Finally, a BMW that won’t have issues with oil leaks.

Interior looks very cool tho.
exactly the whole car just needs to be redesigned
So dumb to put Grilles on Electric cars

The state of charging infrastructure is why I am awaiting delivery of my third Tesla. There is simply no alternative if u r not a masochist.
And this very reason is why I'm waiting to introduce EV into my lifestyle. I'd rather drive what my heart desires than just pick something because it's the best option at the moment.
This is why Tesla is King. Charging network. Pull cable down, one button click, plug in. 3 seconds, DONE

Agree that their styling is lacklustre at best. While shopping recently their styling was a turn off
Styling exteriorwise is probably about 7 or 8 down the list
6:00 Nailed it! The problem with this design is the warped body lines. I'll bet if the side lines were clean this would look a lot better... or at least less odd.
Yes, I have an i4 M50 (Metallic Portimao blue) on order - it's coming this summer, I got in the early group - so really looking forward to that review from you guys!! Love the curved screen and I can learn the infotainment stuff, so not worried about that.
I think it looks great, especially compared to a Model X and many other "quirky" e-cars. The blister flares, lights, profile, and most things look fantastic.
The X5 looks ancient in comparison.
I hated seeing the concept but saw one up close and personal and now I love this thing🥵🔥🔥🔥
It looks ugly
Guys: Onboard NAV makes a lot of sense on long trips in EVs when you need to charge. Otherwise no battery pr preconditioning, plus Google Maps doesn't show live data from chargers. Tricky traffic situations I go Google, otherwise I actually use onboard more.
As someone who lives in Ontario in the same area as these guys, every single day is a tricky traffic situation here lol
Yeah good choice to review this amazing SUV, especially with the current price of gasoline.
The "motor noise" sounds like the opening riff of Len - "Steal My Sunshine"
Now you won't be able to unhear it.

I'll still take the ev6
Honestly the EV6 looks way better than that
Im so glad ur guys’ channel is getting more traffic love to see it
I don't mind most of the exterior styling on the iX but BMW needs to fix those wavy doors.
Someone’s buying this have charging at home
I saw a new 228i Gran Coupe yesterday in traffic and the doors were wavy, it really looked bad. I don't know what BMW is doing with their body panels but I would be embarrassed to pay that much for a car and have it look so poorly built.
These wavy door looks like it's an accident-repaired car. It looks absolutely horrible.
Finally someone commenting about the „dangerous“ reflections of those crystals. I like them a lot… but wouldn’t order these for exactly this reason.
Great review 👍
The black plastic isn’t much better tbh
Although there is UV protection on all the windows so at least you’re not roasting while you’re getting blinded 😂
That's...interesting looking.
I love it. German cars are often very boring but BMW's actually making things look unique nowadays. I know others don't feel the same way but I *much* prefer their newer designs.
@@TD1237 very true!

Wait till you see this in the flesh. It's much more handsome and doesn't look goofy like it does in pics. And the interior is next level 👌
The looks were already growing on me and then I saw and sat in one and was totally sold. Love the interior most of all, front and back.
That said, your public charging up there sounds awful! Wife and I have been driving EVs since 2018 here in the states, but never had that much trouble the few times we public charge.
Stephenson have still the best video ever on BMW design these days...cool video guys!
Charging stations are same problem in the US. Half of charging stations I went to was not working at all.
Buy a Tesla?
Tesla hands down has the best charging network for these kinds of reasons.
That's five different customers purchasing not only fuel but any number of other items in their stores.
kinda looks like a mini van. steering wheel of the year tho...that shape with the bronze is perfection
This looks amazing for people didn't like the old BMW design language, such as myself.
Nice to see that the guy with the beard upgraded his watch game. Remember him rocking the seiko skx for a long time (iconic tool watch in its own regard) this looks great though
My God, Like piece of art.
Love the intro music
I really wish I found all this appealing but shit. I'm just not interested. I can embrace the electric car as a way of transportation but do they have to make the interior so complicated? I can just imagine that shit freezing up and wanting to but my fist through that screen.
Great video, thanks. Car is awesome, really loving that akward looks, inside is just peace of art. Unfortunatelly your charging network is same rubbish that here in Finland.
That front end is an absolute sin
Thank you for mentioning the charging situation… that is definitely something not
a lot of reviewers talk about
examine the design close and you'll notice this is a more stylized version of the last generation Nissan Pathfinder (not a bad thing cause that SUV was brilliant). just saw one of these at the dealer on Friday and i love it. the price...? not so much, but along with the style and price the Bavarians DO give you performance to match so really no stone has been left unturned.
If you hold down the camera looking button with the P on it, it will start the drive recorder right away. Takes about 2 seconds, I use it in my '22 X5.
I think BMW could learn some things from Cadillac Lyric, which I think has much more refined look inside out. BMW's EV design language is very experimental, but not really appealing and it won't age well.
look how jakub reached the paddle shifter to up shift at 12:44...hahaha
but he has none.. plus the car's electric.. 😂
And that’s probably gonna have the same exact power as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo
guys, gotta include vehicle weight with the power figures. With EVs it’s super relevant
first I have to say how awesome watching you guys reviewing this Vehicle .. so thank you very much for your effort .. but as for BMW .. they can't stop building poor quality Vehicles no matter what the Technology .. as of this review that is like brand new SUV that is very expensive and yet .. the headlight are already fogging ?!!! how much will cost to replace that headlight ?! the more important question . does it replacing it will fix that problem ?! finally you guys aren't the only one that actually faces difficulties finding good operating charge station and that is the number one reason why no body Trust EV's and yet they haven't address that issues that is not on BMW alone of course ..

You need a good charging Network like Tesla
i hated the look when i first saw it but I like it more and more everytime I see it, although I don't understand why it doesn't have a frunk, that is just bad design. Lucid, Rivian and Tesla have shown that a trunk is more than double so I don't know what other automakers are doing
The condensation in the headlights really cheapens the looks 😬😬 my mitsubishi doesn't even do that lol
Going through all those menus just to change cruise control distance is absolutely insane.
Yeah
Something that all companies need to start doing is bring in normal car review people and have them give real time thoughts before they put the final touches on the cars. All of these cars we keep seeing with massive flaws could easily be fixed before they were even produced if they brought in random reviewers. Now they have to wait a full generation to make them replace the faults, bad move.
Putting all the buttons into infotainment, and the exterior looks are a deal breaker. For $118,000 this vehicle should look great not just inside. When are companies going to realize they need to make electrics just as attractive as their outgoing gas counterparts.
